    It it important to post on the correct diagonal so that you can more easily turn your horse and so that you're weight is on the horses' inside hind leg. The saying is "Rise and fall with the shoulder on the wall."
    To change you posting diagonal, you must do a down-down up or sit for 2 bounces in the saddle. Make sure not to lean off the side of your horse when checking your diagonal!

    I know this was 4 years ago, but thankyou for posting this! I started horse riding lessons a couple months ago and had no idea what a diagonal was, and my instructor didn’t really explain it to me, and so when she asked me to do it, I’d always do it wrong. So thankyou!

    It worked! I always thought that I was supposed to go up and down with the inside leg! My trainer asks me what diagonal I was on, and wether I said correct or incorrect, I was always wrong. I am on my way to another lesson rn, so I know I will be at least a little better! Tysm!!

    I’m back to riding after almost 40 years and it’s reassuring to see others having the same challenges I am with getting the diagonals right. I know what to do (but I’m not feeling it yet) I’ll keep at it- Love your videos!

    How do I feel if I post right without checking visually?

    • @JulieMarilyn
      @JulieMarilyn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You get used to it! Try to feel it without looking and then check if you’re right and correct it if necessary. After a while you’ll feel the difference. You should slightly notice it in your horse’s balance as well.

    Do you have any tips for when a horse bounces you, so you loose your balance, trying to get the correct diagonal?

    • @kenzeier2943
      @kenzeier2943 ปีที่แล้ว

      To post correctly, the horse must be allowed to be the activating agent of the upward and forward swing of the rider’s hips. If you lift or push yourself out of the saddle with your own muscles, you end up pushing against your stirrups, stiffening your knees and jamming the saddle against your horse’s back.

    I'm with Lizzi Bizzi. I want to learn how to feel which diagonal I'm on. Any suggestions for those of us that don't have someone on the ground to help us?

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should be able to check your posting diagonal by looking down at the outside shoulder while you are riding. Like anything, practice makes perfect. Eventually you will be able to feel it without looking.

      As you go into trot and can feel your seatbones moving individually up and down, rise when the outside seat bone is pushing you up, and go up with it.

  • @reneecross8480

    So no matter if you are in a ring or not, it’s always the right leg that goes forward, then you are going up. Regardless of the direction. Correct?

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. You always rise on the outside front leg. Outside refers to the outside of the bend. So when you're outside of the arena, you have to determine which bend you have, then you can determine which leg to use to rise on.

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage

      Wrong lead refers to the canter. Wrong posting diagonal is for the trot. Were you trotting?
