5:00 that was the same event wendys accident happened at.. that entire thing was a mess. multiple people were injured from ignoring simple safety precautions. also solar was actually the one to find wendy in the first place since there wasnt staff around. the whole thing makes me mad

yup, same event... and yes, it was live... so many of us absolutely freaked out when it happened
...and yeah, solar was the one to find wendy, she mentioned it on one of her yt lives and i don't think she actually meant to mention it (she and wendy were supposed to have a collab stage at the event, which would have been amazing. i believe that's why solar found her. i think they were both on their way to practice it when the accident happened)

In context for the height thing, there was a HUGE boom in girl groups around 2012-2014 where the standard was to be a "model idol" who was very tall (talking the shortest being like 5'6/5'7). Certain groups would be marketed as all having the same length legs & being the tallest group on avg, or having the smallest waists on avg, or having literally all been models/ulzzangs. Like huge talking points on shows at the time would be to compare looks between popular groups and vote who was prettier. It was awful, but with that context it's not surprising that MMM was criticized since the gp demanded near perfect aesthetic standards for their artists at the time & MMM not meeting those made them an easy punching bag for people projecting their own insecurities.
It's always just a lose lose for these poor artists. MMM who as rookies were overflowing with talent had a rough start bc they couldn't meet the visual expectations of the time. Meanwhile other groups who DID meet the standards were then also still judged by people then saying they only made it into the industry bc of their looks so they must not be talented. 🤷 Some people are never satisfied and don't like to see people happy and thriving. Major major respect to anyone who pursues life in entertainment bc people can be ruthless.
Watching variety shows from back then can leave a very bad taste in my mouth, the free flowing commentary about appearances is wild.

@@shortdrink873 this is also just a very East Asian cultural norm. If you travel to South Korea, Japan or China and are overweight they will just straight up comment on it. Appearance is not a taboo topic over there. I don’t even think they’re trying to be rude, it’s more just matter-of-fact. However, if you have a big insecurity about some part of your appearance (weight, a birth mark, hair loss, thick legs, etc) I can see how living in a culture like that would either break you down completely or turn you into a really strong person (like Hwasa).
When I traveled with my friends, one of them happened to be overweight (he’s also Chinese) and he would constantly get called out. Comments by restaurants (“are you sure you want to order all of that?”) and other strangers. It was culture shock for real, but he said he was used to it from his family doing the same.
@@greasemaster9000 sure thing! I'm originally a 2nd gen Kpop fan & there def have been a lot of changes within the industry since -- both good & bad. I think the biggest factor now is there is more accountability bc of greater online & global reach + idols and gp more willing to speak up against the rooted standards/expectations.
oh yeah, solar's back injury there hospitalized her for a while (i beleve that's where she wrote her unpublished song about loneliness, sitting around her hospital room after visiting hours were over. first with her sister, then with mamamoo, she's never really been alone before). that's also where a doctor suggested she try pole dancing to strengthen her back muscles once she recovered
as for wheein's ankle there, i don't believe it was actually broken but forget the details that were revealed. she's actually hurt her ankle several times over the years, as has solar. both always opt to perform anyway, even when told they can/should take time off... both always insist 'bring a chair, i'll sit down and sing'
that event solar fell at was just so unsafe as a whole it makes me angry..
another sad moment that mamamoo turned kinda funny is when mma undermined them by cutting their 2019 performance time shorter and making them speed up their song. they shaded mma during the performance saying "cut! cut it up!" and i live for that. they also didn't perform there again this year, good for them!

Unlike any other group, mamamoo always shows us the hardship in life, sadness, and struggle. It makes us remember that they are "human" too
Mamamoo are beautiful! They struggled from not fitting the beauty standard and that made them stronger. Now they're respected in the industry, when they went to Queendom all the groups were asked about 1 group they would be afraid to compete with, and they all said Mamamoo, that just shows how talented they are. Also, all of them inspire other people about body positivity, motivation, pursuing their dreams no matter what, being proud of being who we are. I'm sure there's a lot of people who wants to become idols but doesn't because they think they don't look good enough to become one, but Mamamoo showed everyone that they can. These girls are so inspirational in many ways, they created one of the least toxic community, and I'm so proud of them!

The thing with the beauty standard that idols have to be tall enough, skinny, and good looking face has already been that way since a long time ago. Probably that's also the reason why there's such distinct terms between "idol" and "singer (artist)" in SK. We as international fans probably couldn't care less about that but it's actually a thing in SK. Korean general public usually don't classify idols as a real "singer" but rather more like as an entertainer in general.
Also imo the whole kpop industry itself are pretty much money driven as well and whether you like it or not "visual" is really such a great marketing aspect. So most kpop companies usually tend to choose visual over talent to some extent. That's also why the girls got rejected many times before till finally RBW accepted them cause they see the talents inside the girls and took that risk to debut them despite all other CEOs/agencies told them that they're gonna fail. But nowadays those kind of perceptions are slowly started to change little by little.

Take in that at 4:59 when Solar tripped because of that unmarked step, that was the goddamn exact event SBS almost killed Wendy by telling her to go through that unfinished stage (and "almost killed" cuz I do know people who've passed away from falling off less height than she did). And legit the amount of idols who actually fell while performing on a rickety ass stage (where you could visibly see it split while they jumped on it during performances). I dont understand how that was ever an official event. Literally just everything about that day. And they didnt get sued?? Just for context, SM literally sues everyone and anything they come into contact with. Literally. (I'm still salty with SBS. Can you tell?)
Maria was such an era. That album is pure gold. Hwasa really poured her heart into it, and apparently, she had SO MUCH going on in her personal life, (her back, her mom, her grandma??) but she kept going. Moos literally had no idea until that I Live Alone episode came out. Back then Hwasun was thriving cuz our resident tsundere (coughsolarcough) was being extra soft/playful with hyejin. (Not that that's confirmed or anything but fandoms do love to infer, and it makes sense)
That Hwasun quote about "hating hwasa" is from Life Bar (that discussion table circle from that first clip. Great episode btw). I dont like thinking about it, especially with what the members become to each other, but then again, they probably wouldnt be such a family unit if they never went through hardships like that.
They are all quite a lot different from each other, when you think about it.

tbh, at first i didn't believe in moomoos saying that Mamamoo get lots of hate bc i met other gg before and I thought the fans was so dramatic w/ this - and most of the hate they recive was bc fandom is full of bullys-...but, when i start to fallow mamamoo quotes on twitter i get shocked, there is SO SO MUCH people hating on them every day, esp Hwasa.
Hwasa is quite a polarizing figure for some reason. People seem to adore her or just hate her. Can never understand the later because she’s really talented and such a sweetheart. People just like being toxic I guess
