John , do you have a motorhome ? If so what do you drive? Did you have a lot of Aftermarket stuff put in to make it work for you ? I hope you don't mind me asking. And have to heard if INSPIRE that replaces CPAP. It's great. There are TH-cam videos of it.

Dr.Don I've been wanting to get an RV but with my disability and then everything that comes with it and meds I'm more concerned and afraid of being out there and do it on my own because I need oxygen at night with my CPAP machine and I'm right handed strong I would need to have a RV design around me and my personal needs before my stroke I was driving hazmat and dealing with 100-200 lbs tanks and a limo driver and a tow truck driver driving is not my issue it's being on the road and having something happen I used be able to take care of things and deal with the things that I don't have use of my right hand and or arm and I want to go back on the road it's freedom from being in a room feeling stuck not being able to do do anything that why I love watching Andrew steel and finally get to see an RV that his parents are using I just noticed allot of things that are not good for me I want to be able to get around three sides of the bed and I really don't like the bathroom in there parents I know you can't have everything yes I know that in therapy I have gotten to learn to use the transfer poles near my bed and bathroom and then other tools for dressing I do have an oxygen machine so I wouldn't want the tanks they would not last very long and as much as I want to be outside and back on the road again busy with life I'm afraid of being out there just based on what you see on news and how things are going on outside of this place that I've been in for the last 3 years sure they give you a bed and you're meds and shots and then you have a shower every two days but because of policies and procedures of living in a nursing home they tell you things that scared my family and scared me over time I'm a big guy 336 lbs that if I fall I can't get back up the staff they use a machine so they can get me off the floor!!! I'm sorry Dr Don I didn't give you the answer you were looking for but if I had the money I would be at Newell coach and have them design me a Coach that I would love and I could use back of my size and issues with my health I would hire a nurse to come with me cuz I hate needles and I would not be able to do anything with being diabetic and then I would feel safer!! Of course I'm dreaming!!! But anyway that's that!!!!

Thank you to your dad for the great tour. My husband and I full timed RV for 20+ years. The first RV that got us started was a used Itasca by Winnebago we love it but when we went full time got a. Rand new MRV (Midas Recreation Vehicles) but after a few years we decided still not quite right and hubby wanted a diesel soooo we got our pusher and kept that till he passed away and I sold it. Watching your videos Andrew always make think how much he would like some coach your showing. Thanks for sharing this

As someone in Occupational therapy, I commend your parents for not letting health issues stop them from living life. Having gone in many homes to assess for mobility, there are a few things that don't meet disability standards but this is pretty well done for an RV. Andrew you should be proud of your parents! You should find an RV with hand controls for the peddles. Many vehicles have been modified to allow people to live life! Thanks for the video, my therapy friends will love it when shared!

Seems like quite a few bugs should have been worked out before this motorhome went into production. Winnebago also should have flown a tech out to fix some of these problems your parents are having. Problems like this can cause a lot of anxiety for people who are disabled and need things to work properly. I would be very embarrassed if I was Winnebago’s CEO and saw this video. Hope they take care of your parents properly. It was nice of you to give Matt a shout out and gift your parents the mattress. I always like that you don’t hold back in your videos and give a real honest review.

It's great. I have question about the lift. Is these something that's a aftermarket or Winnebago had this in there design. Your dad is right there is a market for the Handicap that wants to experience the Motorhome dream traveling. These MH Corporations need to step up and put a few out there.
Thank you Andrew and your dad for this. I had a friend who had never been in a RV and wanted to travel . And I was looking for away to have one installed. But there us no way for that to happen and use the shower or bathroom with a wheelchair in my 2003 Discovery 39S Freightliner Chassis. I love it.

    • @donwat91
      @donwat91 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think I answered my own question. I was hung up on the lift when I ask my question. It's obvious this was a WINNEBAGO design. Because of the shower and able to move around in the coach in a wheelchair. Where as mine there is noway . Thanks

Andrew, we love all of your videos! Thanks for taking the time to showcase this accessible coach! (Feel free to do more!) Thanks to your dad for being candid with some of the issues they have had with the coach. It is important for people to understand that is part of RVing. We agree with him that there are some issues with the layout and not being able to get a chair all the way to the back with the slides in. We have a 2001 Accessible Winnebago Journey and we absolutely love it! The advantage of only having slides on one side is the wheelchair user can actually turn around with the slides in. Ours has the same Braun commercial lift and he is right, they are bulletproof. I was surprised by the squeal his was making... our 20 year old lift is completely silent. Anyway, keep up the great work and we look forward to hearing the update about how Winnebago fixes that slide out!
P.S. In your travels if you come across a 42+ foot pre-DEF DP with a wheelchair lift, let me know!

Thank god for the ADA. I am 63 years and I remember my mother back in the 60’s having to buy two pairs of shoes with different sizes because of her handicap. My father worked at Dr. Scholls in Chicago and the discount helped. I remember one time after the ADA Laws were in place my mother was surprised that she was able to get a pair of shoes for one price instead of two. I told her that was because of The President GWB. Even though her Politics were different she was grateful. The sad thing about the automotive industry is they are not accommodating to disabilities unless you pay for it.
Keep us informed on your Dad and Mom’s adventure with the RV. As always you are one of the best in promoting this industry and the RV reseller. Keep up the good work and as Siskel and Ebert would say you get two thumbs up 👍👍

Great video, especially with your dad! It's nice to get a "senior's" opinion on things that the younger crowd is not sensitive to. It's also nice that Winnebago is sensitive to designing an RV for folks with disabilities so that they can also enjoy the camping experience. I wonder if Winnebago is still using "bonded leather" in their units as they will start to peel in only a few years as I have experienced with my Forza. Most RVs in this price range are using that type of "leather". I hope Winnebago considers all of your Dad's comments!!!

Andrew and family; Thank you for sharing your parents RV! My wife and I are now 61 and I've been doing a bus RV conversion myself. In 2020 I had Covid; Praise God! I survived it; I was on oxygen for almost the rest of the year, I was still trying to work on it, or dream up ideas! LOL! I had concentrator in the bus. My wife has handicapped issues, and now waiting for a liver transplant. It's been 2-1/2 yrs now, we have to stay within an hour drive of the hospital. We are blessed to drive our "work in progress" project around CT. This is so inspiring to know they make stuff like this manufactured! Cool that they have provisions for CPAP storage & use in the bedroom, great bathrm. It's also so inspiring that this doesn't stop your mom & dad from doing their dreams, even with challenges. God bless! AL & Diane from CT.

Mold will develop on the bottom of the mattress if you don't put some type of moisture barrier between it and the plywood base. This will happen with any type of mattress when placing it on a plywood base. Not sure why my earlier comment was deleted regarding this...you would think people would want to be warned about this.

I have been saying for years the camping world is ignoring and missing out on a whole group of people…the disabled. And when the rv industry does come up with something wonderful like that wheelchair accessible RV it’s totally out of budget or comfort zone for the majority of us. How many people can really afford a wheelchair accessible dIesel pusher RV? Not me so I had to think outside the box.
I and my adult daughter who is mentally and physically disabled and wheelchair dependent have been traveling around the USA for quite a few years visiting family and friends, camping and exploring our National Parks & Monuments. My daughter is totally dependent on me now for everything…dressing, feeding, bathing and pottying. I am also the motor for her wheelchair.
For many years we tent camped but when she became dependent on her wheelchair it became more difficult not only tenting but just getting to the tent sites so we hung up our tent and limited the number of adventures we took every year and started staying in hotels. But it was expensive and tiresome for me to have to carry everything from the car into the hotel room and then back out every morning especially if we were only staying one night. I thought there had to be another way for us to continue to camp and travel.
In 2018 on our way home from Mount Rushmore we were sitting in a rest stop in New Mexico and I watched a guy go to the back of a cargo trailer, pull the ramp down and go inside. Suddenly a lightbulb went off. I thought why couldn’t we do that?
For over a year before this trip I had been searching for a camper. I joined multiple Facebook groups for small tiny campers. I knew I wanted something small that I would feel comfortable towing. It had to be in my budget $$ and under 2,000 lbs and without a lot of bells and whistle‘s. I looked at Casitas, A-frames, Lil Snoozy, rPod, Scamp, Airstream……. They either had the floor space but were too big and too heavy or they were the right size and weight but didn’t have the room that was needed for the wheelchair and her potty. I went to rv shows, rv dealers I emailed companies and said I don’t need the bathroom or the kitchen. We just need a safe place to sleep. I got the same answer, we can’t leave anything out.
I am not a handywoman so buying a cargo container was out of the question. So after 6 more months of searching I found what I was looking for. In the Fall of 2019 we drove to Elkhart, Indiana and picked up our 14’ toyhauler/camper. It weighs in at 1500 pounds. Its dual axle, has a ramp on the back, two side windows, a side door, a place to sleep, lights, ac and a bit of countertop if the weather is bad we cannot cook outside. If we stay in a campground we can hook up to electrical. I did have a few modifications done, added 300 watts of solar so we can boondock and on one end of the bench/bed cut out an area to fit my daughters potty chair.
It took some searching and thinking outside the box but it has exactly what we need to continue traveling and exploring.
I hope that others with challenges in their life can find their own way of staying or getting out there exploring and enjoying life.

I had to take mine back to the dealership after buying brand new and the technician told me that it’s up to the customer to find out what’s wrong with your coach that’s Their system

That’s Winnebago slap it together let the customer fix it, warranty is only part of it, lost camping time after spending 1/4 million on a coach is not acceptable

I have a 2020 Winnebago took it three times to the factory in Forest City Iowa. Don’t screw around with techs or dealers. They were the nicest people. Each item was from sub companies that manufacture for Winnebago. Really had nothing to do with their assembly quality. Oh I am from Nevada, so worked out well. Vacationing and stopping for repairs.

Andrew, any chance that each "reading" light can be dimmed by holding the button down to cycle through different brighteness levels? If so, then the next time turned off then back on hopefully it remembers the previous dim setting and doesn't come on blindingly bright.
So glad they are able to enjoy the road in this RV trying to focus on accessibility.
    Best,
    -Mark

Funny. My wife and I have different opinions on left and right for beds. She like your father determines the orientation lying in the bed. I say it’s standing at the Foot of the bed facing the headboard. In that instance the buttons are correct. It’s all about perception lol.

    • @jonathanfrench5323

Yeah I personally would go with laying in the bed as you are looking straight up at it. "Should be" an easy fix to pull it out and reverse it.

Great video and review on the Winnebago. Really pretty coach and paint job. Love the blues in the paint.
What is the Corgi's name? We've had two Corgi's over the last 15 years and love the breed.

Maybe this was mentioned, didn’t read the comments but the light panel he doesn’t like over the bed appears to be upside down, rotate it 180 degrees and right will be right, left will be left.

Always thought that IF developers made MORE such RV's / Homes for handicapped individuals, more capable folks would see the benefits for us all.
