    She is talented... a talented person is a talented person... I am a pianist and I have seen so many people far older than she is having a hard time coping with pieces like these... her little fingers move faster than any of those people I know. BRAVO.

    Every time I start a new piece, I come on youtube to listen to it a few times to get it in my head. Then I come across videos of little kids completely owning songs I struggle with and leave feeling absolutely uninspired to ever play again -.-

    For the people here saying that you can't play this, you can. You can play anything if you put work and dedication into it. Anyone can do this, it's a simple matter of going for it.

    I see a few comments here from very foolish, jealous and spiteful people asserting that she is some how being forced to do this, hence the reason why she is so good. Clearly trying to find some kind of justification for their own failings and laziness.
    But there is an interesting benefit that Asian speakers possess which few westerners have. Nearly all the Asian languages are tonal and that gives them a natural almost instinctive understanding of musical pitch.

    • @MarcusYangNilsson
      @MarcusYangNilsson 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Not true. As tonal any langugage can be, there is absolutely no advantage to this when it comes to learn how to play an instrument. Because the tonal dynamic and precision in overall langugage is in the magnitude of 10 times greater and thus would be the same as saying that babies sitting in a baby cart would become better race drivers. If playing a piano was even close to a language, it would b able to play "hello".

      +Tech Tins
      Cmon, really? I'm also Asian and play the piano and the only reason I was able to reach the heights I am now are from my parents "forcing" me. I don't consider it forcing, though, as they just want me to stick with something to mastery.
      Your claim about the correlation between tonal languages and musical pitch is absolutely ridiculous. Like, what? Musical capability comes from the ability to interpret the music and to express yourself. No clue how any of this has to do with "musical pitch".
      But I agree with you that there are jealous people here. She might be "forced", but that's perfectly okay (if not too much) in the process of learning anything difficult.

    knowing music at this way,and only 5 yeard old,well,it means that she's doing what she is born for...when a child love and understands music language he wants to play by itself...the word "play" is the most appropriate to describe this video...i'm a musician and i always have been,even when i was a child,since then my favorite toys was musical instruments...who talks about to be forced or to be obliged,well,i can tell them that nobody can learn to play any instrument without knowing music language,and it's not about notes and scales...

    • @TheMiffyMassacre
      @TheMiffyMassacre 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To me she flourishes the most in technique, and not emotion. I'd be surprised if she ''fully understood'' the song, and you can see that she has some flaws in that aspect. That said, I am in no way belittling her as a pianist, she truly is great. It's in the Asian (mostly Japanese and Chinese) blood to be disciplined and taught strictly. I wouldn't be surprised if she has gone through some tough lessons crying; as long as she enjoys it, which, a girl playing that well, I am confident she surely is.

    • @Die3Erbsenhirne
      @Die3Erbsenhirne 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Julia, you are so right so many times parents of these children are accused of forcing them to practice hours a day. I've followed Tiffany's progress for about 6 years and see nothing but intense love for what she is doing. This is actually my favorite performance of this Nocturne. The way she plays it pays tribute to the fact that it is a posthumus published piece.
    Published after Chopin's death.

  • @LoreleiSieja

    I don't believe her sad expression is because she is oppressed by a parent, but because the musical piece itself is a bit sad. She really seems to feel her music. She isn't performing with the calculated precision of a trained automaton, but with the heart and soul of a musician. What a precious child! What loving and nurturing parents! Bravo!

    Im impressed because I know first hand that your left hand makes quite the stretch in this composition. Only 4 yo and did it no problem. I wish I was as good at piano as I am Bass guitar. I'd trade it in a heartbeat, Even though good bass players are very hard to come by because they can get away with sitting in the back playing 4 notes a measure and no one has rhythym, But I like to bring a name to the bass. I love to play lead style bass and ride the scales when I play. I love to see ppl who aren't musicians just sit there and grin while I play a song I wrote!! Best feeling ever.

    Gave Bryce Davies thumbs up below. There is no way this poor little toddler can know the meaning and pathos behind this masterpiece. She has been honed and trained like a machine since she could barely walk to learn the piano. This video is amazing to see her play, but at what cost to her? It is rote memorization and fear of parents displeasure. I personally know a piano teacher and she has told me of endless hours when she was a kid being forced to play, 5 hours a day from age 4 to up when she was a pre-teen, this in addition to regular school. She would much rather have been with friends doing normal kid things, she lost her childhood.

    • @Ar0d
      @Ar0d 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tim Cheng I was thinking the same thing. People give "prodigies" like this so much praise when it's usually not genius but meticulous forceful practice from the parents.

    • @markharrison2625
      @markharrison2625 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tim Cheng . . . . BUT she became a piano teacher, Tim. What did she lose? Playing with dolls and pokemons would have assured her future? No, fortunately for her she had caring and intelligent parents.

    • @johnbarry5036
      @johnbarry5036 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mark, I respectfully disagree. You have a point, that her time is not idly spent. But that is part of childhood is it not, playing for playing's sake. Age 3-5 is too early to be preparing for a career! Let her play with her dolls and pokemon (or more likely an ipad these days!). There is some subjectivity and gray area here, so I don't want to get into a debate about parenting, but that is my opinion.

    • @markharrison2625
      @markharrison2625 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Tim Cheng Tim ; Let us respectfully agree to disagree. Sorry, but I'm going to override your not wishing to become involved in discussions about parenting : let me say that back in the 1940s I was blessed with kind, piano-playing parents and I proved to be "incapable" of learning to play a single note, being more interested in Dinky cars. Although I retained the music in my head and can but marvel at child prodigies, nowadays I wish that my parents had been as severe with me - respectfully, of course - as Asian parents are reputed to be. Greetings from France.

      If shes master technique then emotion in a few years and bit of training with the pedals, assuming she hasnt got that already, and she will definitely be a great musician whether its proffession or not. Personally, i hate her because her playing is so good it makes me feel like im shit.
      Jk but it does make me feel like im shit though

      She isn't mature yet. Her mind is just playing what she has, and it doesn't seem like she has the full mental capacity to actually put in feeling. Also, it isn't technically perfect. The timing is all over the place, the way the notes are being pressed leaves much to be desired. However, it's an incredibly good start for someone at her age, and by the time she's 16, I hope the playing will sound more whole.

      I have played piano decently by ear for many years and other instruments just bad enough to say I have a pretty good idea on what it would take to play those well. I feel that I have a good analogy for those who don't play or feel that a type of playing lacks something. When you see someone playing an instrument try to think of the sound you hear as another language full of information and every other detail language can portray in any given circumstance. I would even venture this is how just about everyone who listens to music does listen and they just haven't really thought about it much. You like a type of music due to what you perceive it is saying to you and the way it is being said which in turn will trigger emotions. So when you say she isn't playing with emotion; She is still learning the language on her instrument. She is speaking with wonderful precision which is amazing all by itself. However if she stays with this and truly in her heart has a passion for the language she will one day be singing this language with the same precision and have her song dripping with emotion.

      When I was a little kid I used to spend most my of time with grandparents. My grandma paints so i used to paint with her, my grandpa plays violin, piano and trumpet so i used to play with him. Maybe i still can't play violin or trumpet XD (in this year i'm trying to sing up to music school) but when i was 5, he tought me how to play some parts of Bach's toccata. I showed it to my keyboard teacher and then i used to attend on those lessons for 8 years. Now i have some troubles with the left hand, because you play only accords on keyboard, but hey, i haven't ruined my life! Now music is one of the most important things in my life and i can't imagine 1 day without playing on a piano.
      I would write more, that grandparents should sent me on piano lessons or i should practice more in the past, but i know nobody will ready it XD
      Just remember that some of the kids just want to do it and it isn't very hard piece and Chopin was 6 years old when he composed a few pieces.
      Thanks for reading and sorry for my english.

      Would you want to play the piano all across your childhood? Maybe it's better to jump in puddles and to play in hide-and-seek with your friends when you 5?
      I guess it is much more natural and happy childhood.
      I really wonder this little princess and happy that she is, but I'm not sure that she is happy. I guess, a happiness is the mainest thing in the world and if you're happy to play simple melodies now, you're on a right way, friend ;)

The way to a child excelling is with the drive and support of their loving parents. This little girl is a prodigy and that is evident. Basically anyone can do this if they have rich parents with a nice piano in the house along with private lessons from a piano master. The sad fact is there are hundreds of so called "prodigy" players out there copying the greats but no one is writing shit on their own anymore. Just interpreting the ghosts of the past. I would love to see a young kid that can actually write a piece of music themselves or at least improvise.

    Granted, she is getting the right notes, rhythm and all. But, music comes from the soul, and I'm not entirely sure what a "five year old" can get out of a piece so emotionally intense as one Chopin's Nocturnes. Music comes from passion and not from being forced to sit down and play because your overly ambitious [Asian] mother is forcing you to...

    I have to say this performance was bad, except she is 5, of course. She played accelerated, without the accompaniment sounds rhythmic instead of harmonic and the melody is not even phrased. That first note after the introduction (00:20) sounds like a stake in my heart instead of like a lonely soul in a pit of desperation.This was barely an interpretation, this was more an exercise of "nailing the fingers in the right keys". Of course, her talent is amazing, but I believe her coaching was rather poor.
