New dancer here. Trying hard to learn all these steps by TH-cam videos. This version of the Dean Collins Shim Sham seems quite different from the one my local dance group does. There are many versions and variations around the world? How do dancers from different places to this together, if everyone knows a different way of doing it?
The shimsham (originally a tap routine) was danced by professional dancers with each other after work. Every dancer had their own variation. The lindy hop community dances the Frankie Manning version because he simplified it and took out the tap dancing. So learn Frankie Manning version first, but be aware there are hundreds of legitimate versions. Ironically the only 'rule' back in the day was 'be original, don't just copy everyone else' (but now it's, now and we all do it the same)
