No one today could ever replicate Yul Brynner's performance. He looked, sounded, acted and had the presence of a King whether in Siam or Egypt, he is totally believable.
I agree, and I love how that line concludes the film with an image of The Ten Commandments! That's one of the few times a movie ends and I think something like "Amen" or "Praise God!"
Yul Brenner, under rated actor. He had such presence and physically seemed ahead of his time. Shaved head, muscles, non-white. His voice was so great! He was made to play the king in "The King and I" too.

Yes yule played the role of Ramses to the limits of perfection.. I've seen the movie several times and still his performance thrills me.. his dialogue Delivery is superb..
Yul was awesome! Unrivalled and so focused! Who could compare with him? The seriousness of his required character could not be challenged. He won hands down!! Love you Yul
I was eleven years old when I watched The Ten Commandments with my Mother. The theatre was sold out but there was a single seat left so we shared a seat. What was special was that they displayed some of the props from the movie behind glass cases at the entrance of the theatre. It was a beautiful film made special by watching it on the big screen.
Best scene in any move ever: Nefertiri looks at Rameses I disgust and says: " I could never love you." Rameses answers cooly with a look of complete satisfaction and replies, " Does that matter? You will come to me when I call you.....whether you enjoy it or not is your own affair, but I believe you will." He strides off magnificently. Lol....man, I love that scene, that character, that actor. Superb!
The Movie of" The 10 Commandments" was perfectly made with the right actors playing their part and the part of Ramses was meant for Yul Brynner, this movie should remain as is, never to be remade. I've watched this timeless movie practically every year with my siblings and parents, it never gets old and we learn a great deal from the bible. This year we didn't see it aired on t.v., I don't know why they didn't televise it! I guess the people that runs the programs on t.v. was concerned about the Coronavirus, to remember to aire it. I hope they do take the time to aire it soon, I would love to watch it again!🌹🙏

@@Ecila2u yes I had to purchase it too on dvd. The first movie I got was Poor quality, paid a little more and the second was much better. I had to have it next to my Ben Hurr.
Yul Brynner had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen on a man and that did not make him in the least less than a proud, competent, very sexy man. He was a great actor, perfect for the part of Ramses. I don't think I have ever seen a movie of his that I did not like, that he did not do a great job in whatever role he played. It is always a pleasure watching his work.
Yul Brynner was in a class all of his own. No one was to copy him, no one ever could. I also love Charlton Heston in Ben Hur. When it comes to the 10 commandments, Yul definitely has the commanding presence, and appeal in that movie. He does outshine all the other actors in my opinion. So Dynamic. He just draws you right to him with that voice! Yul was the WIN in this film.
Just watched the 10 Commandments last night with family. So many great performances. Best in class special effects for its time. A story well told. Highly recommended!
The bald head, the deep voice with such resonance that you could FEEL it, and those smoldering eyes were perfect for the part. Add to that the accent, the muscles and the talent....he WAS Ramses. Never a more perfect actor for a role. Ever.
Growing up back in the dark age this movie was shown right around Easter every year. I always got to watch some of it but I didn't see it all until I was 12. I have always been a fan one of my top 10 favorite movies.
My grandfather - Frank Caffey - was the lead Production Manager for this movie. (He was the Executive Production Manager at Paramount from 1949 - 1967).
Brenner deserved an academy award for this totally portrayal. His overall physical bearing, vocal diction, muscular physique all combined to make the quintessential “Ramses”
IMHO in all of Hollywood the best embodiment of Pharoah, any Pharoah goes to Yul Brynner. The chiseled face, body build and Edith Head's costume mastery...dang, does it get any better?
1:40 Not only 50 years people will remember this movie and the Characters for coming 50 years also. Such a Legendary Film. I watch the movie every year.
Yul Brynner was, hands down, the greatest looking "lighter skinned" man to wear a shaved head. (I don't necessarily classify him as "Caucasian" due to his ancestry--which some say contained both Mongolic and Japanese elements.) That shaved look was absolutely perfect for him--it accentuated all of his exotic features. (Especially his eyes and facial bone structure.) Combine that with his physique and deep, commanding voice and it's no wonder women just absolutely swooned over him LOL!!
His parents were Jews from Russia, just like Sy Stalone. None Mongolic nor Japanese elements there, Except he liked Mongolian beef and Japanese sake...
You can thank Gengis Kahn and the Mongolian Hoard's invasion of Russia in the 13th century for Yul Brynner's Asian attributes. My father's family was from the Ukraine and he had relatives that had very strong Mongolian appearances.
He was in four of my favorite movies: The King and I, The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven, and Westworld...in each movie, he took command like no other actor could...
This is my all time favorite movie. My mother took me to see it in the theatre in the 70’s when I was a kid. It was one of those theatres that showed older movies. She had told me the sea was going to open and of course I waited for that the whole time. 🌊
I have watched this film for over a 100 times. I am now 67 and i will try to continue watching it for another 100 times. Yul and Charlton will be always be my favourite actors. They are the greatest of all the great actors
I think this is one of the best historical fiction movies of all time. Yul was a beast; he owned this film, that role... It can't be easy to outshine costumes, sets, and fellow actors like that, but he did it.
Thats why I love him he was a pioneer in taking no bull shit from anyone i was born in 1964 and i tell you i was raised by a strong father but the performance was for the ages
My kids are somewhat related to Yul Brynner because Yul's second cousin is my kids grandmother. She told me his real name is Yul Briner and had changed it because of a family squabble! Yul Briner's family came from Switzerland but you won't find that in his Wikipedia or his Biography!
Interesting near the end, the photo of Yul with a cigarette. Remember he made a commercial saying, "just don't smoke". Shame he died from lung cancer, he was a good actor. Liked him in The Ten Commandments and Westworld.
Yeah sadly he grew up early in the 20th Century which had the awful habit of tons of smokers in it. Yul Brynner was a massive smoker with an addiction to it sadly. I remember both he and actor; Phil Silvers died within a month of each other back in 1985. I'll always remember him for; The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven, Solomon and Sheba, The King and I and Westworld. He was indeed a great actor without a doubt.
Yul was a complete original. No one like him at the time in Hollywood. No one like him now. Just an amazing actor. And to have him do that role so magnificently- you couldn't have a truly great movie that stands the test of working on 70 years of time without a bad guy who is totally relatable and memorable and mesmerizing. He still is. The terrible sadness of Ramses, continually in the shadow of Moses all his life- **all his life** undercuts all his meanness and you grieve with him. Especially when his son dies. And he finally sees what Nefertiri really is, she who has loved Moses this whole time, and understands that again Moses was the fortunate one. He escaped her. Now Ramses is stuck with her. Stunning.
OMG....Love telling this story! I saw this movie in it's initial release in 1956. Although Charleton Heston was the obvious hero in TTC, I never forgot Yul Brynner. Saw it again in 1965 at a re-release at a drive in with my family. I was 17.....and this time I realized why I never forgot him! He was so sexy, dangerously alluring and devilishly handsome....I couldn't take my eyes off of him! Of course, I couldn't have made that kind of assessment when I was 8 years old....but at 17 I totally got it! He is probably the singularly most exotic, intriguing, somewhat mysterious and unforgettable piece of masculinity that will ever grace the silver screen!

He is an handsome Man, he's one of my favorite characters in Ten Commandments. I so love his voice, his ascent, Brynner also resembles the Martial Artist Gordon Liu as swell. Both of them are handsome.
Brynner was one of a very few high intensity level alpha male actors, such as Brando and Douglas. He didn’t even need to say a line. That killer eagle eye look said it all. Actors today do not remotely compare.

When I look at the remaining three candidates for the role of Rameses I just crack up. Their faces are so Anglo-Saxon it literally hurts. Yul Brynner's Pharaoh must've been one of the inspirations for the creation of Johnny Sokko's Robot
More than anything else I like his commanding voice. Its an authoritative voice.
Awesome duo, Heston - Brynner
