CORRECTION: At 7:37 I say that Lawrence Orubor was given additional time on his prison sentence in July of 2024. Obviously I am not a Minority Report operative and I cannot predict the future. Lawrence Orubor received additional time on his sentence in MARCH of 2024. It wouldn't be a Strange North video if there wasn't at least one mistake, so there you go. Thanks for watching folks!

"Lawrence Orubor, 55, of Calgary handed 6½ years on top of 10-year sentence" - Front and center with a google search. Your error is not to worry about. Dude's lawyer argued the sex trafficking sentence would result in a combined sentence that is unfair. 16.5 years is a large bit. Most murders in Canada are less. Court disagreed.

This video seemed very well researched and had great detail. A video for the Vancouver and surrounding area gangs and violence would be extensive I imagine. Vancouver just had a targeted daylight shooting downtown, cameras everywhere caught it. All the crime here the cops always say "suspects are known to police", which is infuriating. Then there is the corruption at the ports which is a whole other angle to the crime here.

Awesome video. I grew up with friends in FK, Sanj was a good friend of mine in high school into uni. My childhood best friend Jason Dang was needlessly killed on a new years eve as well, by an FOB member (who was shot in the club, I thought was Kismet ), and you indicated this as well. I hope you can delve into the newer shootings/criminality by South Asian and Middle Eastern crews that are coming in. Lots of drive-bys and shootings on the roads, YYC police have been worried but maybe its all media hype. Thanks for doing this 👊🏽

Jason Dangs death was sad to hear about, I went to school with him and he was such a nice guy. I applied for a job once that was to help people get out of gangs but because I went to flhs in the same years as Jason and knew quite a few people that were tied to the gangs it was determined that I was too close for it to be safe to work with that agency. In jr high a group that I hung out with was even questioned if we knew anything about the prostitution ring happening there.

Just to clarify, I worked with one of Bendle's best friends. One of the things they didn't really talk about with Aaron's death was that they had him for over 24 hours. They were more or less torturing him to force him to trick Mann in to a meeting. I'm not condoning gang violence, but Bendle was low level and Mann was literally a day or two away from leaving for Vancouver permanently.

Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - in terms of your question, I have had my concerns about presenting the gang information. But all of the stuff I talk about is publicly available information that has been presented by others. It also annoys me when other TH-camrs present this information while they hide behind AI voices and video clips. I could be wrong, but I figured it was more honorable and respectable to at least show my face. And I also realize that gang members are human and they realize that people are already well aware of them. I also don't want to be too timid with approaching more contentious issues, I have to really tread carefully but fortune favors the bold! I'm surprised how popular these gang videos have been, and it's definitely not the main theme of my channel.

There have been some REALLY interesting "BARS" in Calgary that you could do historical crime deep dives on, like The Cecil, The King Eddie, The Highlander, The T&C, The 17th Ave (Forest Lawn Hotel), The Shamrock, The Beacon, Reggie's (St Regis Hotel) , The Spotlight (a peeler bar on 7th Ave between Center Street and First St SW),The "OLD" and "NEW" Calgarian, and 3 or 4 of the clubs on the old "ELECTRIC AVENUE", and any of the "Cowboy Mafia" places like "The Ranchman's", Cowboys, and there was also a "cowboy" bar on 7th ave up near 9th or 10th street (just before where the C-train goes north west over the Bow.)... There would be some great stories come out of some of those joints...lmffao... hell I worked in a couple of them.

As someone who lives in Calgary and is interested in crimeology, Calgary is potentially even more unequally spread than Winnipeg or Edmonton. Sure it isn't as bad overall as those two, and the bad areas aren't nearly as bad, but we have some pretty bad areas for a city with crime stats like ours.
Most of this is in the Central Southeast, in areas adjacent to industrial areas: Manchester, Shepard, Meadowlark Park, Southwood, Fairview, etc etc etc
but there are portions of the city outside of those areas which are bad, with the biggest example being the Centre Street corridor which has been declining for a while now and is full of abandonment nowadays: Highland Park, Tuxedo Park, Greenview, and to an extent Thorncliffe, Crescent Heights and Huntington Hills
the Downtown East Village, Sunalta and Victoria Park have always been bad for as long as I can remember but they have been going through gentrification with mixed results so who knows if they will stay like that; the East Village is still pretty bad for homelessness though, which gives Downtown a bad reputation unfortunately
and Marlborough and Forest Lawn have the worst reputations in the city for crime, but these are rather outdated and incorrect reputations. Marlborough has really never been that bad for crime, with most of this reputation coming from Marlborough Mall which attracts some unsavory folks. For Forest Lawn I can actually speak from experience as I used to live in Forest Lawn, and whilst it was really bad in the 1990s, it has been improving for a while now and nowadays it's actually pretty nice to walk around; but it still has some gang violence from time to time mostly along 36 Street SE on the community borders with Radisson Heights and Southview.
as well Rosscarrock kind of exists as a sketchy area in the Southwest with really no sketchy areas around it and no clear reason why it's bad, the Westbrook C-Train station in Rosscarrock is unironically really nice and safe, but the community of Rosscarrock is pretty dangerous to walk around from experience

The FOB/FK battles were wild which was HS era for me, as the video said they had no specific territories, so you could have a murder or shooting in an affluent NW neighbourhood, anywhere downtown YYC essentially or at a club on a Saturday night, sleepy SW neighbourhoods. It wasn't solely located in the less ideal places of the city aka the NE.
FOB/FK members were in also a lot of the HSs too around the city in both public and Catholic school districts, so you usually knew at least of someone directly who was in either group or someone who knew a person in one of either groups or were associated with them.

The dynamic is very different now. Lots of small sets with names made of letters and numbers, somali groups.
The indigenous gangs are still around, most members now however have substance abuse issues and just do random crimes and violence.
Many BC gangs have come and gone however one seems to really be digging in, BK
