  • Driftbeater float
    The driftbeater float is a type of waggler which is specifically designed to combat strong wind and drift.
    Driftbeater's have quite a large buoyant body which have a high shot carrying capacity. A Thin antenna to help stop the float drifting and a Sight bob to keep the float visible in choppy water.
    In this film I cover how to use the drfitbeater float.

    Dear Friend, I really enjoyed this clip. I use to fish with these floats years ago, and what good fun it was. Thanks for the memories.

    Another really good instructional video! Peter Drennan states that the anchor shot should completely sink the float. The only video I have seen on how to use the Driftbeater! Keep these excellent videos coming

    My wife bought one of these floats about fifteen years ago, back when she used to fish, too. It has never been used. But, because it doesn't fit in any of my float boxes, it has spent all those years in the top of my tackle box, constantly getting in the way.
    It's so delicate looking that I couldn't bring myself to relegate it to The Carrier Bag Of Doomed, Useless And NotSuchAGoodIdeaAfterall Fishing Tackle.
    After seeing this video, I may well have to give it a go sometime soon.

    I love using a 1-2g driftbeater style float for the lift method although I fish it slightly different to the way you've described. I use a float stop or sliding stop knot above the float to control depth and then have the second float stop about 18 inches above the joining knot beteen mainline and hook length to prevent tangles or the float ending up in the net. I join the two using a 4 turn water knot and pinch a swan shot onto the tag ends then trim off the excess, because the pinch is not directly on the line there is no weakness. I find that the advantage of doing this is that it casts much better and you are not limited to a rod length in terms of depth which makes it fantastic for bream in deeper water, the bites are almost always greatly exaggerated lifts which you can't fail to spot which really helps with shy biters like crucians, tench and skimmers

      @AmateurAngling  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes I see what you have done, a sort of cross between the driftbeater and a slider float rig. Most interesting, thank you for sharing.

    • @DjDolHaus86
      @DjDolHaus86 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problems, the method has accounted for 2 roach over the 2lb mark, an 8lb bream, a 2lb 10oz crucian and a 6lb 8oz tench this year for myself so I'm quite pleased with the results, the only place it doesn't work well is over a very soft bottom where the ssg can plug in. Hope it finds a place in your angling and does as well for you as it has for me

    Really well explained and great method. I'm having another crack at this, this year at it was great last season. I absolutely loved fishing with this method for Tench and Carp if you get it set up right as explained here its just brilliant. Thanks again mate, much better than sitting behind buzzers.

    I gave this another go yesterday. I only had three hours but managed three big Roach, a big Rudd, two good tench that I lost, but one small Tench I landed. Thanks again.....I'll keep practising

    • @AmateurAngling
      @AmateurAngling  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing. May I ask, how did the Tench escape ?

    • @gee3883
      @gee3883 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the response. I think its probably my rod as its a carp rod and obviously overkill too stiff. Unfortunately I broke my float rod. Ive just brought a Drennan Tench and float rod that I cant wait to use but it's in the UK and I currently live in Lithuania, the fishing here is incredible. I actually managed another couple of hours this evening. I missed loads of bites. As soon as the float lifted I was striking but missing them. I think they where mainly roach and rudd though. I tired moving the anchor shot different distances form the hook and different sized hooks but it didn't make any difference. Any ideas ?

    • @AmateurAngling
      @AmateurAngling  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Driftbeater can be very sensitive. Increasing the distance between anchor shot to hook will give the fish more time to properly take the bait. If it is small fish causing the problem, using a large bait may help. It could also mean there were no larger fish in the swim at the time to scare the small fish away. Best of luck.

      I use Drennan Driftbeaters. The one I'm using in the film is the No.3, 2 SSG size. Out of the four I use that one the most, so I would be tempted to start there. Very best of luck.

    Is that float a loaded one or do i have to shot the line until it is adjusted just right? I ordered one and hope to cancel the drift during angling in my canal, where the loaded and unloaded insert wagglers are drifting away the whole time :(

    What if it's a deep lake ?

    • @AmateurAngling
      @AmateurAngling  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The deeper the water the more difficult these floats are to cast. I have fished in 10 foot with a fifteen foot rod, but 3 to 8 foot is better. Much deeper water is the realm of the slider float.
