- www.playbill.co... Currently in the cast of "Memphis", Nancy Opel understudied Patti LuPone in "Evita" at the tender age of 22. Although her musical theatre chops were in place at the time, her moving-around-a-darkened-stage skills, alas, were not. A painfully hilarious story involving a bundle of cables, high heels, a hoop skirt and turtle-like maneuvers leads into some serious high-belting from the show's Act One finale, "A New Argentina."
lol "The fourth wall is made of brick." Awesome. :)
"My uterus hurts." (womp womp) *creepy smile* I LOVE IT!
And no mention of her belting a G in Urinetown.

I KNOW she’s warming up at 5:00
I saw Nancy Opel in Evita! It was my first Broadway show and she was great in the role!
I don't really like the way she says "you" but when she belts "how" at 5:27...perfection.
I think Seth needs to get Patti to come in and see if she can still hit the "A New Argentina" notes.
The Seagull thing is a reference to Anton Chekhov's play of the same name. There's a famous line where someone says, in reference to a seagull that was shot earlier in the play "I am the seagull...no...no, I'm an actress."
i KNOW how talented she is. i saw her a few years back in The Toxic Avenger Musical and she was BEYOND brilliant!!! LOVED her singing "Bitch/Slut/Liar/Whore", a duet between two characters that are both played by her
lmfao patinkin impression.
It's such a disservice to understudys and standbys in the theatre to not be allowed to rehearse properly on set pieces. I never will understand that. I know there are reasons blah blah but I just think it's horrible. Meghan Hilty's description on Wicked is an example of this too.
I saw her in Honeymoon in Vegas! She was amazing!
I think the best part of her singing for me was her placement on the “how” in “how could he love me,” because the depth of the placement had extra power. Damn.
Omg she's hilarious! And such a great beltress
There's a video of her concert with Seth last year and she still hit the notes in Rainbow High, it was amazing haha
She just took over as Madame Morrible.
WHEN SHE FINISHED THAT STORY I LITERALLY STOOD UP AND STARTED CLAPPING OH MY GOD THIS WOMAN
I love the way she says "oh crap"
Bahahaha I love the Seagull reference. Chekhov for the win.
Amazing. Amahzing.
I think she refers to Chehov's "The Seagull" where at one point the character Nina calls herself an actress then corrects herself as a seagull? I dunno haha
I saw her in wicked
That's my best friend's mama.
3:49 amazing facials
Is Nancy the person Patti only refers to as "the alternate" and an Eve Harrington figure in her memoir, or was that someone else?
I don't get the seagull thing but it's funny. I can someone explain, I feel dumb!?
Seth scrapes my nerves.
