I have two MC Rokkor-X PG 50mm f1.4 version. This lens really surprised me. The combination of optical quality and vintage look is hard to beat for the price.
My very first vintage lens was a Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm f1.4. It taught me how to use & appreciate manual, vintage, time-tested lenses & since then, grew in my passion for vintage lenses in tandem w/ my old Sony a6000. Had to let go of it then due to fungus. But after a while, I felt the regret of losing it, esp after learning how to clean & maintain vintage lenses! I still long to own a set of vintage Minolta lenses. They're sharp, unique in color rendition, amazing bokeh & nice skin tones for portraits. God bless vintageoptiks! More power to you not just in creating & sharing these fantastic content, but also by being an encouragement to a community of vintage lens lovers. 😊
Thanks for the review of this wonderful lens. I have own Minolta camera and lenses since the 70' s and I completely agree with your comments about the color rendering of these lenses. Keep up the good work! Kind regards from Mexico.
Thank you so much! It’s great to hear that you’ve been using Minolta cameras and lenses since the 70’s! They are definitely special!! Take care and best regards to you.
That ricoh autoshot photo made me smile haha, I bought that camera because of your video and i really like it. i'm feeling lucky today, count me in! Let's see what the future holds..
It's my insiders joke. :) That's awesome to hear that you love the Ricoh Autoshot. I have one around just to take photos of it because I also love its design. Such a good looking camera!
I'm always fascinated by the colors produced by Minolta lenses. I don't know but there is something special when looking on some photographs taken with these Minolta lenses. Really nice work on your videos, I'm a big fan :)
I am new to vintage lenses and I came across to uour channel. I enjoy how you review each lenses and what their characteristics are. Amazed how vintage lenses give another meaning to each images we take specially nowadays that almost all images produce were quite perfect clinically. I am eager to dive deep on vintage lenses and I find your channel very helpful. Every content and effort you do is like a vintage lens. It’s a gem! Glad that it was recommended by youtube to me. The giveaway is a bonus! Keep doing what you do! New subscriber here! 🙏🏼☺️
Thank you so much for your kind message! Vintage lenses definitely have a certain magic that modern lenses lack. And on top of that they are almost always cheaper than their modern equivalents and have amazing build quality! I hope that you will enjoy trying out some of these special lenses from the past. Also, thank you so much for subscribing. I appreciate it!
Going back into your older reviews. All entertaining. Minolta is the sleeper vintage lens. What I am getting with a 30 dollar Minolta Celtic 135mm 2.8 is extraordinary.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the reviews. Minolta is definitely not as popular amongst the vintage lens world. But I’m afraid that many people already know how good their optics are and prices for their lenses are definitely going up. I have a complete set of Rokkor lenses from 16mm fisheye to 300mm and I love them all.
I enjoy watching your TH-cam documentary lenses presentation. I even start doing DIY CONVERSION of old fixed lenses to be use on my E mount. Thanks for the inspiration given.
Thank you for nice presentation of the Minolta 50mm lens. In the very early 70es I purchased a Minolta with a 58mm lens. I would certainly like to adapt this MC Rokkor PG 1.4/50 to my mirrorless camera for that vintage look.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. That’s awesome that you used to have a Minolta back in the 70’s! I love that now we can adapt and continue to use these amazing lenses! It’s such a special time for photography.
Ey, I've been following the channel for some time and I love it! Needless to say that you do an amazing job analyzing these beautiful lenses. I live in Europe :)
Sure thing. It makes me happy to be able to share some of my lenses with people who appreciate vintage glass. I wish I had more extras because there are a lot of comments here. :)
I've been looking at a few vintage lenses review but yours is the one I like the most so far, with a variety of scenes that I wanted to see if I were to get the lens. Would love to try my luck on the giveaway.
I am big Minolta fan and it was big fun for me to see this review. I would love to have 1.4 lens for my xg-1. Looking forward to see what you will test next.
I like your video review, this is one of my favorite lens brands. I fell in love with the images captured and I'm waiting for another vintage lens review. Thank you I'm from Indonesia
I have both lenses and form my findings they perform differently. The Sears lens was made by Ricoh, while on the other hand Minolta made their own lenses. I personally prefer the Auto Sears lens. It’s probably my favorite f1.4 lens.
I would love to get this lens. Not only am I fascinated with fast vintage lenses (though all I have right now is a 50mm SMC Pentax 1.7), but I love the idea of using Minolta lenses on Sony bodies, since they're connected through their shared history.
No matter which Minolta lens you buy you will never be disappointed. In my opinion Minolta glass is some of the best there is, on a par with Leica even, in some models.
Of course I would like to be in the giveaway drawing. I've bought 3 lenses that you have recommended in the last year. You always have an excellent take on vintage lenses and DIY projects..
Sure i'm in on the giveaway. I second 👍 the Minolta colors. Is it me or do they kinda have a tan color like feel? Earth colors come out especially pleasing. It makes portraits look kinda classy for some reason.
Thanks for your work man! I'm new to film photography, so your videos have been helpful. Just got my first roll back and now I'm as hooked as can be. Would love to shoot with this lens so I'm definately in for the giveaway :)
Beautiful photos! Thanks for the review. I'd be very interested in trying it on my SRT 202. Loved your BW photos. Looks like a roll of FP4 would be it's best friend. North American "X" here.
Appreciate the effort you put in your reviews with various relevant examples all the time. Keep it up! :) I'm in for this giveaway, as the painterly renderings made me a biggg fan of it! ♥️ This lens will be a nice addition to my gear. :)
What an awesome lens and beautiful pictures! I especially love the classic car shots. Excellent review, as always. 👍👍👍 I would be glad to participate in the giveaway.
Thank you so much! I am big fan of all things vintage, and classic cars are also a favorite of mine. Their designs are simply incredible and pair really well with classic lenses :)
The sharpness was really interesting to see on a couple of the landscapes, definitely better than a few of the vintage lenses I have seen. Would be awesome to shoot with for the range it gives.
I want it too! :-) Great idea, great review. I recently started adapting an old Minolta macro lens to my Sony A6500, and the enthusiasm for waste glass is growing. Greetings from Cologne!
@@VintageOptiks I decided on the "Minolta MD Macro F4/100mm" - hoping that it would give me more shooting distance when taking pictures of insects. I'm looking forward to try this next spring!
Thanks for a great video! Even among the vintage lens crowd, people tend to hone in on a narrow range of popular models (Carl Zeiss, Canon FD) and neglect some of the lesser-known lenses, so thanks for introducing us to this unusual lens. I would like to be entered in the contest.
Would very much like to own this lens. But I always feel that way after watching your videos. If I don't win, it seems to be in my purchase range. Of the 20 vintage lenses I've bought over the past year, it would be my 1st Minolta.
Can you send it to Portugal? If so, count me in for the giveaway! That's a fantastic lens, a true gem. Those shots came out so nice. Thanks, and see you soon! 👍
Another great review with very nice samples (4K really makes a difference on YT, compression-wise). I don't have this lens and I like a couple of Minoltas that I do own, so count me in for the lottery. :)
Thank you so much!! My post workflow is very simple. I just tweak the exposure and adjust the shadows and the hi-lights if necessary and that’s about it. I want the photo to be as natural as possible. I much prefer to be behind the camera instead of being in front of the computer.
Love your channel and style. Lenses from the 70’s are my favorite! I would love to be included in the giveaway drawing if there is still some room. 📷❤️
Seems to produce wonderful soap bubble bokeh on top of all. Minolta lenses were gems and what a pity they are not made under their majestic name anymore.
Yeah it’s a great lens for sure. Just like all the other Minoltas I’ve reviewed here. Btw, Minolta was one of only a few companies in Japan that made their own glass. They were in complete control over their lens production. And it definitely shows in their optical quality.
This lens is a masterpiece of the classical era and your review is detailed and very informative. I would like to participate in the giveaway, if not too late.
I love all your videos, and helped me a lot choosing my first lenses, I bought vintage by the price and I realy enjoy them, thank you so much for the information and I would love to participate at the giveaway
Awesome vid as always!! I tested one of these on an X-700 for a store the other week and I instantly wanted it for its bokeh haha I'd love to be part of the giveaway as the price tag they have set is far too much for this broke collector!
Great review, thanks a lot ! Loving Minolta I immediatly had to look this new video and subscribed your channel :-). And one day I'll catch this bloody good Minolta lens 50 mm, 1,4 you introduced here...in the moment I'm still using the Minolta 50 mm, 1,7 - a very nice lens also for the money! 👍🏽 Many greetings from Germany for the "Rokkor without X" ...;-)) 🙌
Wonderful review. I enjoyed your previous DIY project...looking forward for more projects. If I win this giveaway, this will be my 1st Minolta vintage lens.
