I'm 61 year old and there hasn't been a day in my life that I have not had at least one dog - usually 2 or 3. I've had quite a few types - Boxers, German Shepherds, Full size Coon Hounds, Shar Pei, Maltese, Pomeranian, and plenty of mixes. I currently have a 1 year old Malinois with 2 others. I have to say the the Malinois is the smartest dog I've ever had. At the same time she is one of the most lovable. She's perfectly content laying next to me on the couch or laying next to my desk chair when I'm there for hours at a time.

My GSD knows fencing fr. I trained her to stay out of the pastures - and away from the horses (for her safety). The neighbours hate me, for giving them shit over locking up their dogs in their garage - and letting them cry in distress.
They’re shitty animal owners, they let their dogs roam onto my land, in packs, which is an unfair advantage to a single dog.
My girl is so well trained, she’ll will chase them on command, and patrols my fence line. She’ll only walk the fence lines, and even peeks in on me if she can’t see me. GSD are cool dogs, but I am biased.

      @lailahepburnandmischka 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

yeh they're defo great dogs ❤
all breeds are great in their own way and largely its a matter of what's the right fit for the owner rather than a certain breed being better than another.
that said, there are some breeds where the advantages are outweighed by disadvantages and I don't get why someone would choose them when they can get another breed with the same advantages and less disadvantages.
that to makes no sense :/
I've never had a GSD unfortunately, but my grandma had a lovely and very large male when I was a little kid.
i have chihuahuas and a lab....
and then a presa canario X german shepherd lol she's absolutely MENTAL 😂😂😂😂
her sisters were tan and looked exactly like belgian mals, mine is brindle so kinda looks like a Dutch shepherd when her ears are up. when they're not up she just looks like a narrow-built presa canario, but the gsdmixed in makes her act kinda like a mal lol she's honestly insane and never stops.
plus she climbs in a way I've never seen any dog do, which adds to her seeming like a mal since they're amazing climbers 😂😂😂 @@guitarsoundsaround

From there on if I wasn't doing something; working, chores, exercising him or myself, he would whine and poke his nose at me. I lost 8 pounds in the first 3 weeks I owned him. She was the perfect running companion, quietly protective, positioning herself between me and any perceived threat. And she is wonderful with children, always ready to slow down for a pet or to play catch with a little one.
But when she goes I won’t replace her with another Malinois, mainly because at 62 I don’t have the energy to go for a daily five mile run. These are active and intelligent dogs who need owners willing and able to invest considerable time and energy.

@@guitarsoundsaround In the Netherlands we often cross a pure German Shepherd with a pure Malinois. The result is perfect working dogs with almost never HD in the hips. However, in one nest you can have pups more going towards GS or more towards Malinois. Always a suprise and you need a good home breeder who knows the character of the pups before letting them go to the right owner.
We used to have 1 who was more German. She became 13 years old, incredibly healthy hips, even when old. Now we have one who is definitely a Malinois in German fur. Jumps like Malinois, also thinks everything can be solved with a cool 360° kick to the face... Definitely a meat missile. To be honest I like this much more and it fits me well!

When i was a young man, i saw 2 of these dogs let themselves out of the back of a police car in Ft. Lauderdale Florida; they both then began to chase a small pickup truck trying to avoid a SWAT team blockade by cutting thru a local community park! One badguy ran and jumped into the bed of the truck to get away. He then raised up a shotgun and fired twice at the police SWAT team... The 2 dogs ran so low and fast, the guy never saw them coming! One dog leapedso hard and fast ; it flew into the bed of the truck and caught the guy by the face!!! Severely injuring the shooter as they both slammed into the back of the cab of the truck! The dog rolled over the cab and all landed on its head...
The 2nd dog went straight thru the driver side window and caught the driver by his arm!…he was screaming louder than his partner that was but in the face so much worse! Lol the driver was able to half roll the window up on the dog trapping it from getting in the cab! There driver then opened the door and tried to run out of the truck with it still rolling!!! As soon as he exited the truck, was about the same time the 1st dog was recovering from flipping over the top , and instantly caught the driver by his back muscles and yanked him down so hard it was scary!!!😮the 2nd dog stuck in the window struggled so hard, it shattered the window glass with its body! A cop pulled up and stopped the truck with his police car by bumping it head on! The SWAT team then ran up and grabbed the criminals etc. But right at the end a 3rd dog ran up there. It was a regular German Shepard police dog! It would even go near the other 2 dogs or the suspects! He just kept circling and barking at them all! 😂 He seemed so much bigger than the the Belgians but they were absolute killers man!!! Afterwards me and my brother n law found 2 shotgun shells the police missed for evidence!!! Still got them somewhere around here! This would have been in there year 1995 or 96ish something like that!!!! 👍🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

I had a good friend for almost 15 years, a Shiba Inu I named Hok, when his mother, and my mother, decided i should be his boy.
Like this breed shown here, he was an amazing athlete too. If you reduce this dogs size, and his distance by 1/3...
Some qualities of a cat, but only the good parts, not the annoying disgusting stuff.
He could run straight up a tree.
Climb the ladder to the hayloft in the barn. Leap, or launch himself airborn, going for the throat of the human that play attacked my brother one time. My brother, reclined in a lazy boy, caught him mid flight, as his powerful jaws snapped just short of our friends throat.
Courage and ferocity. Dominant. Confident. Bold. Not the begging for attention climbing all over you type.
Extremely intelligent and intuitive. Almost telepathic in his understanding of what i expected from him.
Most of his training, it took only one time for him to understand and follow that rule. Like house training him not to shit in the house.
I could leave a steak on my coffee table over night and he would not touch it without it being in his food dish first.
My mom tried to cheat on the rules one time and gave him a meat scrap in the kitchen.
He wouldnt touch it. She told him it was ok. Treat. He picked it up, took it to his dish, dropped it in, looked at her, then ate it.
He could rip tin roofing panels with his jaws.
He knew bad people on sight. Eventually i learned to trust his judgement. But not until after learning the hard way first.
One night he woke me up. Came into my room, where he wasn't allowed to be, (cuz he was an indoor / outdoor dog, and i don't like fur, dirt, cockleburs, and woodticks in my bed.)
He only broke that rule twice, both for good reason by his reckoning. This was one of them.
He pawed at me and did his high frequency urgency note.
After i woke, he went to the doorway and stopped and looked back. High note whine again. He looked down the stairs, back at me. Crouch. Wag tail. Quick, quiet yelp.
He waited. I got up. He continued to the bottom of the stairs and waited for me.
I could hear someone making noise coming from my kitchen. Rummaging around. I got my gun. I quietly went down the stairs, gun up and pointing in front of me, around every corner, like they do in the movies when entering unknown situations.
He went into the kitchen. The sounds stopped. I slowly followed, ready to shoot, heart beating so hard that my eyeballs jiggled in my head. Literally.
Nothing. No one there. We paused. He alerted me to the bottom cupboard area.
Then the sound came again. I turned on the light to find a mouse, caught in a trap, but only by its leg.
It was trying to get through a gap, and the sounds were the trap hitting the baseboard.
Hok couldn't reach the mouse where it was, so he came and got me to help.
    Good boy.
I lived in a small town one year, and had to leave him on a 60 foot runner while at work.
I got home one evening to find a big yellow spot on him. And big yellow spots everywhere around his area of range. The tree. His shelter. What the fuck?
Eventually i figured out someone had been using him for target practice with a paintball gun.
Him stuck on that runner. No escape except for his shelter.
    Like a live shooting gallery.
The next day i called in sick, but did everything I normally do, and parked my truck 2 blocks away and walked home and waited.
Three neighborhood kids. One paintball gun. I went out my front door, walked a couple houses down and snuck up behind them.
I confronted them, told them i knew where they lived, asked them what there parents would think if they knew what they were doing to my dog.
I told them i wouldnt tell their folks, they could keep their gun, but if they ever do it again, ill be stopping by for a visit with the sherif along with me.
That worked. No more target practice on Hok.
Now here comes the interesting part...
About 2 months later, we were about to leave the house. Hok waa already in the pickup bed, eager gor the ride to come.
I had gorgotten sonething, cant rememember what. Dowsnt matter. I told Hok to STAY, which he always did, and went back into the house.
Less than 5 minutes later, soneone is knocking on my door. I open it to find those 3 paintball gun boys standing there.
The leader, the one that owned the gun, is crying, and holding one of his shoes in his hand. It has a big chunk missing from the bottom of it. One of those styles of Nike with the big thick wide heals.
Hok is in the back of the truck, tounge hanging out, panting heavily. And happily.
The paintball gang were riding their bikes through the ally behind my place, when Hok saw them and ran them down. Ran HIM down. He remembered the kid that did the shooting, singled him out, ran him down on his bike, and ripped a big chunk outa his shoe, causing him to wipe out and eat gravel.
Satisfied with that, he jumped back in the bed of the pickup and waited for me.
Hok was good with kids, before that and after. They loved him and he loved them back.
But he remembered that one kid, and let him know in no uncertain terms...
Fuck with me and I'll fuck you back. 2 months later.
That to me, shows high intelligence, and a very human like grasp of the nature of the world.
Despite the much deserved justice Hok metered out that day, i knew that it would be trouble for us.
Doesnt matter what happened before. A dog attacks a kid riding his bike... Its not gonna go well for the dog.
I told the kid he had it coming dontcha think? He agreed. I gave him $20 and told him not to tell his parents or i would have to tell them about him abusing my chained up dog with his paint gun, and he would get his gun taken away. To tell them he got his shoe caught in the bike, and to keep the $20 a secret, so he didnt have to explain how he got it.
I could write a whole book on how amazing that dog was. I damn near did right here.
Some people replace their pets with another when they die, and i considered seeking out his bloodline, his offspring, (i sired him out, breeding other purebred AKC registered Shibas for cash) to get another Split Tail Red Shiba. At that time, Shibas were easily selling for $2,000 a pup.
Hok wasn't really a pet though. He was family, and more of a really good friend.
Always patient with me as i learned what he knew intuitively. Always forgiving in my shortcomings and mistakes. Always teaching me new things. Always there waiting for me, eager to play and explore and run.
And forever full of indomitable spirit and... Joy.
    Irreplaceable.
Rest in peace my friend. I will see you soon, and we will run like the wind again, just like we used to back on the farm.

A friend, a retired Marine, has one. Got him thru a breeder after a long wait. Went thru the special training program with his dog. I wouldn’t mess with Tom before he got his Belgian. Together, nobody in his right mind should even think of it!
The place where his dog was trained gave commands to the dogs only in German. So “Let go!” and “I give up don’t hurt me” aren’t going to buy much sympathy from those dogs.

If a German speaker attacked your friend would the dog obey him? I think the commands are pretty standard 'Platz!' 'Naine!', etc.

    • @Tomeccho
      @Tomeccho ปีที่แล้ว

@@solideomusicalNo, the dog will only respond to its handler, regardless of what language you use.
I trained 3 of mine using 90% made up sounds for commands. The only actual words they knew as commands were platz, back, and fuck off.
They also knew phrases and sentences for basic shit like "who's hungry?" aka dinner time and they'd line up and sit by their dishes, "get the ball?" that meant go get the ball off the shelf cause its playtime, and "who wants to go places, do things?" which meant car ride incoming and they'd go mental and head dor the back of my car lol

My bro had one (that I thought - until very recently) was a Belgian "German" Shepherd. Apparently, a Belgian Shepherd IS a Mal. My bro used to say that you could get IN to their house if they weren't there (small town, and we didn't lock doors then), but you would NOT be able to get OUT (except if you were grampa/ gramma, or other close blood relatives. And even then, why risk it?), with the Mal "on duty".

These are working dogs and should never be brought into suburbia as household pets. They're smarter than their owners, exceedingly athletic and are bred to be aggressive with a high work drive. They need to work and are easily bored, and you don't want to be around them when they're bored.

I literally had one as a kid in our suburban home. It was one of the best dogs I’ve ever had and was only aggressive towards strangers approaching the car or house or sketchy people on walks. Extremely protective of the family but really friendly towards all guests and friends and made a great house dog. Also he would only get out when there was a very heated argument in the house and he didn’t like that. But other than that he would never leave even though he could easily jump a part of our fence if he wanted to. Amazing dog.
