Not really. He lost against Ivanchuk in Candidates, he lost to Caruana some time ago, he almost lost against Nakamura. He has bad days too :). This time he even had two in a row.
Outstanding game for young players to observe how powerful a knight can be in the end game, and what superior positioning and spacing does for you in the end game.
If pawn is pushed, then rook takes bishop on e6 and check. then black king has two options - either to go to b7 or to a5. if he goes to b7, then knight to d8 defending rook and attacking the king. the king is forced to go to a8. then rook c8 checkmate. In the second option, if king goes to a5, then bishop to e1 attacking the king, so he goes to a4. then ruck to a6 checkmate. Sorry for non-chess language but I do not know it well enough.
+Mark Butler He is one of the highest rated player...if you even manage to draw proud yourself and make sure you record the game and upload it. We will celebrate ur success on youtube. LOL
king to c8 can be a good move , cuz if night takes bishop ( black square ) rook takes and than bishop to h4 winning the exchange , another possible would be king takes knight than bh4+ , king to e6 , white is slightly better
incredible game from carlsen to hold such a terrible opening.. doubled pawns and no castle????? the mid-end game was beyond my comprehension from both players
To those criticizing the Berlin defense, Carlsen used it against Anand to win the title with no problems. Not castling is part of the main line. Everyone has bad days or other things going on in life that may distract you. I think this just proves Carlsen is human, not a robot like some think.
***** Awww. That's cute that you're making a logical fallacy of argument from authority and you think you have a good point. Look, kid... When you have the ability to see the entire game like we do, it means you have more information in which to make an analysis. I'm not claiming I would have done better than Carlsen or could have given him advice at the time he made the move, but it's not a leap to see than exchanging the dark square bishops when he had the chance was a better plan when viewed in the light of how much of a bane the dark square bishop was to him later in the game. Further, do you disagree with the entire line of reasoning that Mato has on it at 3:00 about how it wouldn't turn out bad for black to have done so? Mato's obviously better than me, but you said Carlen is not only the best chess player now, but the best player *ever* (which shows just how biased you are, btw). If we're going by your line of flawed logical reasoning, then neither Mato nor anyone else in the world should be analyzing his play either. So, listen, keyboard warrior... Next time you want to make an argument, at least make a logical one. Have a nice day! :-)
Look, kid... The only one frustrated here is you. Indeed, it seems that you're so frustrated that you can't even write with any semblance of proper sentence structure, grammar, or spelling. I offered an opinion and explained why it's valid to have made that opinion. You offered no logical arguments to the points I made when you responded to my "unnecessarily long" with, ironically, a comment 12 lines longer than that. If you thought my statement was wrong, we could have had a discussion about the benefits of exchanging material in this game or in general. We could have talked about alternate lines of play further in the game where having kept the bishop pair would have been better. We could have discussed any number of things and improved our ability to play chess a little bit by working on our analysis skills. That's what this channel is for: chess analysis and study. You, however, seem more intent on ad hominems and logical fallacies. So, listen, keyboard warrior, unless you're going to address the statements I've actually made rather than just make assertions about what I should and shouldn't comment on, there's no need to continue this discussion. Have a nice day! :-)
This was an epic battle
Normally Caruana games melt my brain. Oddly I could follow this one. Both of these guys are monsters.
For some weird reason I love seeing Carlsen getting beaten...
+Κυριάκος Κυρούσης me too :D
Me too!
:D
Great video Mato! What a game!
Grande Mato, i tuoi commenti sono divertenti. bravo.
A clash between Titans.. Great game.
This is outstanding! For a long period, no one could do Carlsen any harm and suddenly...out of nowhere...Caruana! Good to luck to Fabiano!
Not really. He lost against Ivanchuk in Candidates, he lost to Caruana some time ago, he almost lost against Nakamura. He has bad days too :). This time he even had two in a row.
extremely tense game
incredible stunning game. learning lesson for all chess enthusiasts
thank you mato for Your video. congratione senior caruana
great game, mato. I don't mind not having the board-color change when hypothetical scenarios are entertained.
Thanks Mato!

That's right Mato, keep the new games coming..:)
What an amazing game.
Put more video of Caruana vs Carlsen pls :)
Regards
Caruana is the Paul Keres of the modern era.
Hi at 12:46, why not push the pawn (Instead of Ba4)? It will be unstoppable then!

The knight's dream has come true....that's great
WOW Caruana
what a game.
Brilliant play by both. I'd love to see how long I could survive against Caruana...maybe even beat him...but probably not.

Most of the games resulting from 'Berlin Defense' have that structure !
oliverupload Doubled c-pawns are often fine.

Caruana is my hero!
Caruana's play reminds me of Fischer.
Carlsen should have exchanged some of that material when he had the chance.

look good because in many of your videos you make an illegal movement of pawn, I find it inperforgable that you are a player
