    Great Video! Mistakes happen when making custom sails. Glad we could get it all sorted out.

      you guys are legends - my first instinct would be to get an independent 3rd party to check every single thing the first rigger did. If he can't measure sails properly - lordy help us - getting measurements right is a first order of business for a details man.

      My mistakes never got 100 percent sorted by you guys and I’m a paying customer not getting free sails. Been thinking about doing a Video on why you should NOT get sails from someone who is not local. To your credit I did get a Voice Mail many weeks if not months later from an Unknown number. Those never get checked. If it was from Precision I would have called right back.
      Bottom line disappointed. With sails I got from Precision. Lots of mistakes made

      @@jasonwright1327 we are very sorry that you are not happy with the 3 sails that you purchased in Sept/18, April/19 and June/19. I see that we had a warranty case opened for you in May/20. I will send you an email with my contact information to rectify any issues with your sails. - Ron - Precision Sails

    That negative loose wire at 7:00, looked like it was not insulated? I went back and looked again, sure looks like exposed metal. Not sure what "just delete it" was meant, but with all those red positive wires on your instrument panel, I would strongly advise to put some heat shrink or similar to cover the (if it is) bare wire, if that started floating when you're sailing, well, just cover it if it is bare.

    A little help on your electrical ( unrequested I know )
    1. Never hook up power to anything without using an inline fuse or connecting to the proper size breaker.
    2. Never ever unhook or delete a wire and leave it in the panel without taping or insulating the end of the wire. Always use a piece of white tape to make a flag on the end of the wire and write on the tape where that wires other end is located and whether or not the wire is still good and useable or not for a future project.
    3. You can get a book of numbers tape at all electrical stores and put a number on both ends of any wire you install. If you have to trace an existing circuit go ahead and number the wires. They also have letters in the tape and you can add a letter to the wire if you wish. ie. The letter A for refridgeration the letter B for lighting the letter C for navigation and so on. Then get you a three ring binder with the plastic sleeves to hold notebook paper and make a record of the numbered wires and where each end goes. If you unhook or delete the wire write it down. This takes a few minutes but it will save you hours if you have a electrical problem.
    4. You can get a fish tape at any Home Depot Or Lowes. It is used to push thru around or under obstacles to hook a wire to and pull it back thru. Unlike a broom handle or straight edge they will go thru an area or hole a small as 3/8 of an inch and come in different lengths 25 ft would be ideal for the boat and cost about 20 bucks.
    You do an amazing job and I love watching your videos. I hope you find this helpful !

    About 8:20 you mention which connector to use on which wire. A note from someone in the industry; the preference is to put the plug (male) on the ground (black) wire (on the side closest to the battery) as the terminal is exposed and should it come in contact with other metal that is grounded then you are safe from shorting the battery. The positive (+12, 24, 48 V) should have the socket on the side closes to the battery so that if you accidently drop the wire it will be less likely to short out.

    Some decent electrical advice in the comments.
    Did not see anything on water heater , sounds like bad ground issue but if you connect to boat ground it might create weird zinc anode editing currents????

    Lucky Jordan, the mid-ship stateroom is the most comfortable & smoothest ride on a vessel underway. If I might make a suggestion.... get yourself a packet or two of various size tie-wraps to clean up what we in the trade call a rats-nest of wires behind your breaker panel. Installing wires on a boat can be difficult. That's all I did for several years was wire or rewire boats & complete electrical services. I once used a kitty to make a 60ft pull between the hull & bulkhead and two 90 degree turns to bring me a pull string. Tied the pull string on her collar at the bow & placed an open can of tuna at the opening in the stern. Little sweetheart brought that pull string first try.
    Bummer about your mainsail, that's got to be frustrating.

    • @nerblebun
      @nerblebun 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krismartin1181: After trying to get a wire fish snake around two 90 degree corners about a gazllion times... I was desperate. It was either the kitty or taking apart half the inside cabin bulkhead & moving a boat load of furniture.
      Trust me, I added an extra #12 wire to the pull with a big loop on each end, secured em with a clamp, and marked em as a "pull wire" for the next guy who found themselves in the same quandary.

    I never run wires in the bilges if I can avoid it. Instead I run two bus bars high on the deck shelf in a bifurcated re-openable conduit, one each side of the vessel, and wire everything individually from those bus bars via the appropriate amperage encapsulated fuses. This is not as difficult as it sounds, and I use 6mm tinned conductors for all ancillary wiring, and use the switchboard only for relays and major overload switches and lights telling me a circuit is operating, which requires a 50 pair plastic telephone type cable for all LED monitoring of every circuit in the vessel if required. Bilge pump circuits are permanently wired with only a light and buzzer showing which pump is operating. For my bus bars I use AT LEAST 10mm diameter tinned conductors. Sometimes one can get the best quality DC wiring from aircraft disposals sources--at scrap metal prices. I do not use aluminium conductors though except as lightning protection on aluminium masts..

    • @earlyoung2863
      @earlyoung2863 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea to keep wire out of the bilge. Mainly for safety. Also running the "bus bars" down each side keeps each branch circuit wiring run shorter and neater and a lot easier to add accessories. True the bilge pump alerts should be independent of EVERYTHING else.
      Good ideas.

I’d engage a recommended and qualified marine electrician for a couple or so hours to look over your systems, make recommendations and or - whatever needed to keep you and your vessel safe. Do not use your dryer. There is a ground problem or a neutral switched with ground somewhere. Check to see what the voltage is on the dryer case. Check all of the wiring from your panel to the dryer. There is a serious problem which must be fixed.

    What was specifically wrong with the sails? Surely the mast builder of the brand new mast and boom, would have had P & E dimensions and these would be sent the the sail maker. Curious minds.

    • @CheersWarren
      @CheersWarren 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mast rake also has to be taken into account and any amount of mast normal pre-bend so P&E is not enough alone.

    • @nortonmolly
      @nortonmolly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CheersWarren You are right. But I used to work at a mast builder and we always had to supply the sailmaker with all the necessary information to make the sails fit the rig. So I was surprised to see that sails made incorrectly. But she didn’t mention what was wrong.
