    I wouldn't describe this mare as " cute" she is a beast to be reckoned with. Smart, wily, strong...she is ALLOWING herself to be gentle. She knows a good thing when she experiences it.

    Confident she is!! I admire her strength. What's awsome about horses like this, is that they choose you. They dont give you any other options if they dont like you. I've worked with horses like her, not a wild mustang of course, but these were my favorite horses to work with. In the end they will walk through fire for you, take care of you and strut around like there carrying a queen on there backs. I see that with her. Can't wait to see her future progress, your doing an amazing job🤗💗🐎👸👑

    I'm extra fascinated with this video because I've had horses throughout my life, and every one always acted dingy in the wind. They were sillier, more playful, and acted like errant children. I am all about enjoying the ride. There is nothing joyful about having to correct your mount the entire ride. This horse is so intent on paying attention to you, that she is completely ignoring the wind. I find you extraordinary. I love these videos.

    Excellent progress. Just a quick question if you wouldn't mind as you have spent a good amount of time with her. I understand its still early days with her but how does she react to other people? Having been around head strong, confident and very intelligent horses they can tend to be a one person horse while tolerating others they are usually more comfortable and relaxed with just the one person they have bonded with and accepted. She is doing very well, and handling everything and its good to see both of you relaxing and connecting.

    This is so interesting and inspiring to watch for many reasons but the main thing for me is this mare isn't a pushover. Building trust and a bond is everything at this point. Really appreciate your talent and patience here. So many people would try to rush the process and I don't think this mare would respond well to force. She is a fighter and would have become mean to protect herself in my opinion. By your methods, she is not being "broke", but learning to understand and handle her new surrounding and lifestyle. Looking forward to each video, thanks for sharing your training.

    Just found your channel. Amazing work you do. I am a trucker and deliver loads quite a bit in the Sparks/Reno NV. There is a large population of wild horses in the area and see them every time I am in there. I have binged quite a few of your videos. From bidding to pick up to working them to eventual competition and lastly the auctioning of these beautiful animals. I am not ashamed to say it, but the first time I realized the process ends with auctioning, I got a bit choked up. I know this is your passion, however is it a bit emotional for you to have bonded with them only to see them leave? I would be a mess. Anyway, love what you do and keep the videos coming.

    My Little Owyhee mare was just like her for the most part! She did that aggressive lunging thing during gentling and is pretty skeptical of people. I think part of it has to do with how the TIP trainer handled things (she was going through some tough stuff in her personal life, not an excuse, but I can understand being emotional) we still struggle with tying bc the trainer tied her in the trailer as soon as she got her in it, which then she flipped over and knocked herself out hitting the ice. Definitely would advise people to do your research ahead of time and if you're in a cold climate, plan to pick out a horse for gentling before it could possibly snow bc it makes it so much more difficult. My mare now had issues trusting anyone but me and probably wont ever be a horse I can put anyone on but, man, she will do anything for me and she protects the crap out of me. I recently had back surgery and she would NOT let any other horse near me in the pasture. She's always pretty happy to see me and I'm the only one who can catch her with a lead rope, the owners of the barn just open the gate for feeding time and she runs to her stall. I can't wait to finish my pastures and barn to bring her home.

      Where are you squeezing with your hand? On the poll? It's hard to describe but there is a little area behind the ears and even slightly behind the poll that should be the best spot to squeeze. You can help with the halter too by adding and releasing pressure straight down with the leadrope.

    • @SamVanFleet

      Hey! Great question! For one, it helps with touch around the leg and learning that the leg/hoof being handled and manipulated is OK and won’t hurt them. This mare had a very quiet reaction to it, but it sets some horses off to not have control of one of their legs. It’s much safer this way before standing right underneath them :)
      And, same with hobbles, it helps them in the future for it they ever got tangled up or into a sticky situation involving their leg. It prepares them so they won’t panic if their leg gets caught up.
      Leading by the feet is also another great way to teach them to give into pressure. I could of lead her around with the belly rope too- the more I can do the better

    At 13:42 I saw her giving in to a sort of trust towards or in you for the first time I thought she really meant it?
    But wow.. that is a Lady of Iron and if we would let her, she would let a whole herd bow down to her demands (like she most probably did in her past life)
    This is a true Queen Status she radiates and the fact that it seems she is slowly realizing that you are the only one who is challenging her for real and does weird stuff what isn't normal in a horses world but she also realizes she only has you around her as they are herd animals, she is getting to know you as much as you are getting to know her too and you doing that weird stuff but you don't freak out about it makes her looking at you more and more and slowly she is allowing herself to let herself fall into your hands, because you are the only one around her she can fall back on but also she realizes really well that you make her do things she doesn't know, did you do things in a herd she lived in and she didn't condone I guess you already had seen the entire roundpen twice and was bitten and kicked around..
    But I see she is starting to get attached to you since she doesn't have a best mate around her like in a herd she would have one and since you also act as a strong leader in your world in her eyes I have a feeling that from that timestamp I gave in the beginning she is Very Very slowly but surely letting you in and letting her guard go down..
    She is going to be a bomb proof horse, litteraly bomb proof. If she would get a training to walk around in fireworks (like some horses over here really need to do ) she would pass it ending with A+
    You are fantastic with her, we all realized real quickly that this is a horse that has lead the toughest life out there but so far I am truly So impressed with the progress and I love watching you both learning from each other!
    And of course no problem with the way you want to upload, you are your own Boss Sam 😎😁
    I will look for your uploads since TH-cam only shows those that upload extremely regularly and those will push back everybody else that someone has the full subscription too.
    So, for everybody else, look for Sam because YT will recommend those who have the most subscribers and upload the most regular.

    Do you find it difficult to find saddles that fit your mustangs?

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The saddles I use in the first couple weeks aren't saddles that fit them great- they just help get them desensitized and I'm OK with throwing them around and letting them hit the dirt... however the saddle fit really just depends on the horse. There's no one breed easier to fit, all horses are individuals. BUT, there's a really great brand that's a PERFECT fit for every horse! WOW Saddles are custom fit to any horse- that's what I'll eventually use on her :)

    How old is she ? Is a older horse harder to work with ?

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Her estimated age is 7. I find they're usually harder to work with because they aren't always as curious as younger mustangs

    I have been around and broken way too many horses for anyone to foolishly try and convince me this is a wild mustang. If it were truly a wild mustang there is no way at first you could even get near her. Tell it to someone foolish enough to believe this video
