I see but in my case this was the first Ultima game I played back in the day. So I didn't know any other Ultima game to compare it with and now I have played almost every one of them and this game still has a special place for me. I agree about technical issues but the atmosphere, visuals and music are simply amazing. I imagine the finished and polished version of this game would have blown minds off.
Just discovered thescrema the Avatar utters is from Army of Darkness, the part in the beginning were Ash is running from the apparition. I guess I have good ears.
@undeadpresident He had to "alter" is modus operandi a bit when he was exiled to Pagan. Actually, Pyros ends up being a big help to the Avatar in the end of his adventure on Pagan, and again in Britannia when he returns home. :)
@undeadpresident Christ, the Avatar has been finding ways to steal without being caught since Ultima V if you really want to get technical. I stole a lot of crap in Castle British in Ultima V. I did a minor amount of stealing in Ultima VI, namely from the royal mint, and I recall only ever having taken weapons from Serpent's Hold in Ultima VII.I. I can say fairly certainly that I never stole in Ultima VII.II. You just did not need to. U:VIII, well, do not ask. Never in U:IX. Deceit, never! :)
@TheodenN Personaly this is a bit too classic to me, but if it was made in the last days of isometric i would probably love it. The old games are for me too hard to control, and a hassle to play, and the limited sound effects and wierd graphics are kinda off putting. Tho under all of that they are way better then most modern games.
Well if you put it that way then Ultima Underworld I and II are just corridors. Architectural elements, household items and details are very nicelly pixelled in my opinion. I might agree with the gray caves but focusing solely on them is little unjust.
@MageSutek Lol in Ultima VII I would take items from dungeons and it would be "stealing," guards would come etc lol. I remember in Ultima V the best way to get good items is to steal magic keys from the merchant in Minoc then raid British's basement. I think the only thing bad it does is make the mage in Trinsic not tell you the mantra of Honor. I wish getting rich was that easy in real life! Hey could you do me a quick favor and tell me if you are able to watch my uploads or if they are blocked
This is where the Ultima games got bad. They ruined the senses of roleplay and the general gameplay the older games had. The plot wasn't bad, but it was the gameplay and the general lack of everything due to the game being incomplete.
Actually, I kinda don't agree with visuals. Most concepts and colors in this game are gray caves... the beach is a gray cave, the obsidian mines are gray caves...
you require the cooperation of many to do this, In Ultima 9 it's just you, but Ultima 9 was a joke and everything in it was a sum up, I like that you must get all these people to do what you want in Ultima 8.
yeah the ultima series is the greatest rpg series of all time but u8 was a bit of a fuck up. series peaked with ultma 7: the black gate... underworld II was pretty awesome as well. but they went rapidly downhill after that, ultima 7 part II was... ok and u8 and u9 were just bad.
junky 3d games? you could barely walk in this game the controls and combat were so shitty. ill take oblivion over this crappy game any day. they even cancelled the expansion to this because sales were so shitty.

A dos classic. They really don't make games like this anymore. I love old classics.
Ya know, that biotch Bane never did tell me to prepare a spell or bring a candle. I paid attention the 2nd time I played it

He has no pelvis! His legs connect directly to his abs!
One really shouldn't half ass the summoning of the equivalent of a god.
@MageSutek lol I think the modus got a little corrupted in VII where klepomania and deceit are key to winning hahaha
One of The entertainment of this game is exploring possible humorous outcome from The avatar replies🤣🤣🤣
i love this scene

So how did the Avatar go from being an embodiment of virtue to performing Satanic rituals to summon demons from hell?

And, considering that the mantra of Honor never changes... ;)

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is why I treat the occult like the plague!
