Good advice Guru. The days of old where people who owned boats had common sense and as we all know, common sense has now left the minds of many in today's world.

The way that guy flipped back on his head made me hurt. This crew may get off easy in the soft sand but I bet the towboat captain is buying tonight. Good stuff, always. Thanks.

Good educational content this time around. Amazing how simple and timely actions can save major losses no matter if on land or sea.

The body language throughout implies somebody somewhere is holding their beer while these guys ran the gauntlet. I wonder if they lost a bet as well as the fee for the tow.

1:25 and lady's& gentleman, this is why you always have an emergency anchor, to throw over when things happen like this, cause yea never know when your gonna break down, an drift.
The anchor will slow or stop your drift, and if the sea state is poor, it will keep your boat facing the waves and a more comfortable state to attempt repairs untill help can arrive

And ALWAYS tie the anchor to the Bow / front of your boat, never the stern, unless you wanna sink the boat, or drag your anchor

Where I live in southern Western Australia I like to have about 150 metres of anchor rope. Clearly we have much deeper water pretty close to shore though. I agree this skipper should have deployed an anchor from they bow within a few minutes of the engine ceasing to function. He also needs to ensure he has an anchor that is appropriate for the type of sea floor he is likely to anchor over. For a boat that length I would assume an appropriately sized danforth anchor would have been a good choice.

Shout out to the Wellcraft's bow anchor point

Another possible unexpected cost could be the result of poor towing attachment points. The eye on the stem of most small boats is only strong enough to winch the boat onto the trailer, and some boats don't have enough strength in the bow cleats or the 'Sampson Bit'. If these aren't attached with through bolts to a suitable backing plate you could rip them right off the deck.

    Dear Boats vs Haulover
To my untrained eye it looks scary!
My experience on the Manly Ferry was very pleasant.
Perhaps you can demonstrate how it should be done safely rather than delighting in another person’s misfortune.
    Please?
    Love from Australia 🇦🇺

Having a small kicker motor could have helped him slowly come back in the cut also.

The way buddy fell back into the boat, my guess is besides being completely incompetent to operate a boat they were likely drunk off their asses. Looks like nothing will change in florida

This is a perfect example of how useless and mostly a waste of money watercops are. All they ever do is race out in half mil boats and park there while towboat takes action. Every swing dik police dept has a small navy of these goof offs who spend most of their daze gawking at women. In this case 3-4 police boats serving absolutely no purpose at all. Shameful.

I used to work for TowBoatUS, unless you had the TowBoatUS membership we were instructed not to assist any boat that was worth less than $100K because it was not worth the salvage expense...

Well look at that whole tow wouldn't take 2 hours. They could charge $3k easy without insurance, but how do you get the money from the guy? Take the boat?
