Back in the day when MTV actually played music, this video & these others by Billy were on a constant play loop... White Wedding, Flesh For Fantasy, Eyes without a Face, Mony mony, Dancing with Myself, Hot in the City, & Catch My Fall. Please check them out!
I've seen interviews with Steve Stevens, and even though they were pop-punk (before that was a thing) they always designed their songs for the dance floor!
I saw Billy Idol in concert back in 1990 or 1991 on the Charmed Life tour. Faith No More opened. When they played Rebel Yell, you could see every person in the audience fist pumping in time with "more, more, more". It was wild. Amazing concert.
I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Billy Idol was the 1st superstar spawned directly from Mtv. Steve Stevens' guitar work on this song is amazing.
In the late 70's he was a punkrocker he was a member of the punk band generation x. In the 80's he launches his career into the mainstream with lots of chart hits. And he don' have lost his credebilaty. Check out his version of the song mony mony a total 80's party banger. Or the video to his song to be a lover where he is showing off his entertainment quality alone in a ring. And he is one of these guys with this unique god given voice. You can recognize him every time. Now i play mony mony on ten and do a little escalation in my home
Ifol said in an interview with Rolling Stone, that Rrbel Yell was his favorite type of whiskey You've got Idol on the vocals and "Screaming " Steve Stevens on the guitar 🎸 . It's nothing but one of the baddest sessions of the 80's!!!! I LOVE ME SOME BILLY!!!!
Billy Idol has a ton of awesome songs that were huge in their day. He can sing like a mother*&$%# !! His guitarist, Steve Stevens, can go full on sonic mayhem, and backing it up with hard grinding dirty rocktones. Check out the song HOT IN THE CITY, either listed as a Billy Idol song or a Generation X song (his previous band). It's got the same WOW energy and musical catchiness that this one has.
steve stevens on the main guitar in his solo uses a toy ray gun to get that main sound! it isn't shown in the video; but when they still perform billy kneels and gives him the gun it's cute.
I definitely recommend White Wedding, Rita Hayworth, Bitter Taste, and U Don’t Have To Kiss Me Like That. He has so many good songs, I could go on. He also turned up in the Wedding Singer on the airplane at the end.
The Rebel Yell is something the Confederate army were famous for doing during battle in the Civil War. The actual Rebel Yell sounded like a huge pack of coyotes yipping at the top of their lungs, but today it means more like a yell you let out when you’re REALLY enjoying yourself and don’t care who knows, like screaming YEAH or YEEHAW, although mostly more just kind of a wordless noise. This song isn’t about a breakup, it’s Billy Idol celebrating that his girl is really enthusiastic in bed and that’s why he’s with her!
From Billy's mouth, he said he was at a big party with the Rolling Stones and such, and there was a bottle of alcohol called 'Rebel Yell'. It sounded cool and inspired him so he wrote this song.
@@MichaelLopez-dn6gg Yes, in America we have that connection but Billy Idol is British and saw the name on a bottle of whiskey/alcohol at a party & thought it sounded cool. It has no Confederate meaning originating from the writer of the song.
Is this your first Billy Idol video? I've always been a fan. You crack me up when you say there were no phones😉 It was the 80s, man, the phones were plugged into the walls. It was a better time, leaving those things at home. Also, we just accepted that this was typical rock and roll, altho Billy always did his own thing, which was fantastic. I just love his music. During the pandemic, he became introspective about his motorcycle accident in the late 80s? early 90s? don't quote me- and he wrote a killer song called Bitter Taste. The guy is in his late 60s and still kicking ass! 🖤
the way the video was done; it was done like a real concert; these kids were brought in from NJ and i think NY. i read some had been drinking before hand. it's seen in the old 80's film big with tom hanks.
Came from late 70s emerging London punk scene, along with Sex Pistols, Adam Ant, Siousxie and the Banshees, the Cure...it was a moment of musical evolution. Billy had the most US top 40 hits.
He has so many great songs!! Check out To Be A Lover, it’s probably my fav Billy Idol song. It is hard to pick a fav, tho. White Wedding, Cradle Of Love, Dancin With Myself, Flesh For Fantasy are all bangers, too
A Lil' History... A Rebel Yell was what the confederates in the Civil War used when they charged the Union lines. It is said the sound was so terrifying that many union soldiers dropped their guns and ran. Hence the intensity of her screams, "More, More, More!" It was supposedly used at Gettysburg during Pickett's charge, but the union soldiers held their ground and fought back the advance. Gettysburg was the farthest north the South would ever get... the tide of the war was changed there.
@@VictoriaL180 A lil' more perspective: I'm a Nam Vet and we have some 68, 000 names on The Wall. Think of this... that's how many died in 3 days at Gettysburg.
He was asked on MTV in the early 80s how he got his hair to stay like that and he said sugar and water. The natural gel😂😂 White Wedding is a banger. I drove my parents nuts with this Lp 😂 Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️
It was hard on us, Billy being so good lookin’. It was a lot to ask of us teens. 4:02 yes! “Oooooh!” Steve Stephens’ guitar playing in this song STILL makes me feel that way. But nothing could compare to the 4:23 “showing out” - talk about setting a scene. It raised our expectations on relationships … and not in the healthiest way. 😅😂Thanks, Stax! Oh! Talking about Generation X, he was in a band by the same name. 🤘🏻
That's such a great song. Still gets me amped up all these years later. My friends in a bluegrass band covered this song years ago and it was actually good surprisingly. If anyone is curious to hear it bluegrass style here's a link th-cam.com/video/IfEToB4xaNU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kB2ni2BzwwUAA13y
It's not about anger - it's about a woman who is so good in bed and insatiable that he would give everything to keep her. He named the song after having 'Rebel Yell' Whiskey with Mick Jagger and David Bowie. The term 'Rebel Yell' comes from the strange and terrifying sounds confederate soldiers would make just prior to attacking or defending an attack - it freaked the Union army out bad fir the first couple of years of the civil war.
Billy has a good "metal scream" but he is not the greatest like Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Robert Plant (Led Zepplin), Sebastain Bach (Skid Row), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), to name just a few examples - LOL!
7:15: I don't know why you don't download the video and then react to it when you play it back instead of streaming it. You're obviously gonna get ads when you stream but you won't when you download.
Billy Idol is a classic legend!!! 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯

One of my favorites from the mid-eighties. I should know because I was smack in the middle of it!!!!!
A great 1980s artist! Another reason I think it’s the best decade for music! 🎶
🙏🙏🙏
Steve Stevens guitar always kicks ass.
Great reaction my friend. Congratulations. This is a fantastic song, full of energy.
Thank you so much!!
Parents hated him teens loved him
🙏🙏🙏
More More, More Billy Idol🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🙏🙏🙏
Billy Idol basically invented pop punk. And the world owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
Woww
I've seen interviews with Steve Stevens, and even though they were pop-punk (before that was a thing) they always designed their songs for the dance floor!
Billy with Generation X ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song reminds me of MTV as a kid in the 80’s

Wow that’s amazing 🙏🙏🔥🔥
He was in a band called Gen X before his solo career.
Yeah him, Duran Duran, and Def Leppard all benefitted greatly from MTV exposure.
I spent all of the 80s rockin, jammin and working out to this song. I even built my sound system in my truck specifically to jam to this song!
💙💙💙

Billy Idol's guitarist *Steve Stevens* also played on *Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana official video* Thank you for the reaction ☺👍💯
🤘🏽🤘🏽
I absolutely love Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana video!
It's fun to watch Michael rock out like that!
My favourite singer and still releasing songs . Still rocking it
My Fav is when he was in Generation X and the song “Dancing With Myself!”
This guy was a consistent hit producer.
🔥So many bangers by Billy Idol. The Elvis/Jim Morrison of the 80s
🙏🙏🔥🔥
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽😊
No the Elvis of the 80s and even to know is Glenn Danzig.
Michael Hutchence of INXS became the late 80's Jim Morrison.
I would agree
He certainly lives up to his name.. "Idol"..
🙏🙏🙏
I just subbed. Loved your reaction & you didn’t stop the video every 3 seconds, lol. Love Billy Idol. You did a great job!!!
master for sure
Great Great Reaction !! I love this song !!

My Husband says Poe Lease. The Poe Lease are behind us.
They didn’t have cell phones back then!! Your point still stands everyone was in the moment rocking out. It just made me giggle

Will do for sire

Billy Idol was inspired by The Sex Pistols to make music in his teens. With Stevens guitar work he merged Punk with 80s Metal brilliantly.
Yess🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Stax you are awesome 🙌 this music journey of yours is amazing. Billy Idol is a favourite… More More More🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much

Yes more Billy Idol, listen to Cradle Of Love. The video came into my life at a young age and changed me😅
🤘🏽🤘🏽💙
Another good one mister. There's a reason I did a compilation on this song! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
🙏🙏🙏
Going from smooth to loud or other details in the sound is called DYNAMICS. The greats all know how to vary vocal lines to catch the ears.
They use a real toy "laser gun" to make that sound with the guitar.
Now you're ready for "White Wedding!" by Billy
He has so many great songs!! Check out To Be A Lover, it’s probably my fav Billy Idol song. It is hard to pick a fav, tho. White Wedding, Cradle Of Love, Dancin With Myself, Flesh For Fantasy are all bangers, too
Will do!
Hear the live on VH-1 acoustics session from him....His voice is REAL.

Hahaaaa thank you so much
White Wedding is also a jam.
Also, cell phones weren’t common in the 80’s. They didn’t really become an item for everyone until the early 2000’s.
Ahhh gotcha
