Bonjour, Patricia. Thank you for your videos. Excellent advice. The last recommendations about switching to Google Voice we will do once we arrive in Perpignan in January. We will use T-Moble Senior International Plan ($55 each line) for the first few months. I'm looking at French cell phone plans. Which ones are good for the area? Any recommendations for French banks in the area? I set up a Wise account so we can have Euros while traveling, but I think we need a French bank for services. Also, I read from An Scott about setting up a direct deposit of our Social security in Euros into our French bank. Your thoughts? We are very excited about our move to France. Our VLS-TS visitor visa appointment in Seattle is December 2. Again, thank you for your insightful videos and wonderful advice. Merci. Dean & Cindy
Awesome tips Patricia, and I love the video format. Watching the roads and towns in France as a passenger in this car is awesome. It's very relaxing and we get to see parts of France unknown. Thank you for the tips.
Are you fluent in French? Where in France do you live? I went there last year by myself, a single woman and was 69 years old when I went. I spent a few days in Narbonne. I don't think France would be the country for me though I would love to learn the language. I went to Portugal as well last year and found the people far more friendly. I honestly, wish I could say that I had the same experience in France. People are polite but not very friendly. I'm glad it is working out for you.
Hi, yes I'm fluent in French now. I live outside of Perpignan in a village called Céret. The French, in general, are more reserved, and seem less friendly at first. It takes some time for them to warm up to you. I've not yet been to Portugal, so I don't have a comparison, but I've heard this from others too. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi Patricia! I’m just getting in to your videos and am enjoying your style. I first saw you on a guest spot maybe a year plus ago (Delights by Dawn) and now find you popping up on other channels I watch. Of course Adrian Leeds and before that Baguette Bound. I was surprised by the ride along format but I really like it! Your missteps may have been a bit painful for you but certainly are helpful for the rest of us. Admitting to making those missteps is very validating also as I like to be prepared and build up a lot of anxiety about making a mistake. Seeing you make a misstep and it’s fine (well eventually) is very calming. I’m wondering if you talk about the process of getting rid of things in preparation for the move and how you feel about what you got rid of and kept now. I will definitely be checking out your other videos. 👍🏻
Welcome to my channel. So glad that you found this video helpful. There us a video where I talk about purging. Not sure it what you are looking for, but here is the link. th-cam.com/video/820Zxd0R-Ps/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HGonk3l8EyxyqXii Knowing that mistakes will get made and giving yourself grace when they do makes it easier to step out of comfort zones. Learning from others is a great way to minimize them. Thanks for sharing.
Wow that’s something about the cell phone disconnect-I can only imagine what other things one has to consider when taking the leap to another country. So many details. 😃
What surprises me is the phone issue. I moved to Malta almost five years ago, and I got a Maltese phone a few days after I landed. Then I cancelled my US phone right away. All I needed to order a phone here was proof I lived here. They were satisfied with the lease for a room I rented in a shared flat. Easy peasy and a lot cheaper.
Yes. Sounds like it was easier. I could have gone to another carrier, but back then I wasn't so confident with the language and decided it was easier, though more inconvenient to do the month by month thing. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, to get rid of storage! I am willing to do this before the year is out and I haven't moved abroad yet. That is one bill I WON'T miss! I enjoyed your recent interview with Roshida! Tfs and continue success.
Nice to see the drive around. Thanks. And man, haha, I remember in the 80s switching my Chicago/ILL license to VA when I went to VCU and was shocked at the sideways profile!! hahah, that cracked me up for years. So luckily I'm good to go for the US/FR exchange now. Wish I'd known about you & and your phone situation years ago when I first started planning my move. I could have told about the voice thing. I initially started researching Africa so was watching tons of that stuff back in 2018-19, and had been using GV since it came out. So I was telling those expats in the comments how to keep their US numbers. Actually earlier this year, a guy who had moved to Tanzania had a brother in the states, where it was " incoming calls" only situational, and was paying for years. And I was able to help him port his number and stop those bills. Keep on growing. Much success.
Yes, you are fortunate to have a VA driver licence. Remember to exchange in the first year though. Not switching to Google Voice sooner was an expensive lesson, but now I'm sharing it with anyone who will listen to spare them. Thank you for watching and for your comment.
Hey Patricia I am curious about how you were able to change your Visa status from a non revenue to a entrepreneur status after you were in France? I am in the same boat, definitely need a work break and want to retire at first but eventually may want to write a book or something similar and am worried about not being able to change Visa status. Thanks! Kristin
I used the book called Fool Proof French Visas to guide me. I also worked with Valerie Aston who has a business called Start a business in France to review my business plan. I did return to the US to apply for the different visa type as my Prefecture told me I had to. It's possible to change visa type, I did it. Here is a link to the book and Valerie's website. yourfranceformation.mykajabi.com/a/2147506818/gBx5pCSF and www.startbusinessinfrance.com/ Best wishes with your career break.
My route was to start a business here. Others find employers to sponsor their visa. You might want to check out this book. yourfranceformation.mykajabi.com/a/2147506818/gBx5pCSF
I can't wait to retire to Europe, but still have another 5 to 10 years to work. I wish to retire to a small city not too big but not too small where I don't have too many restaurants. What places you recommend in France? But French seems like a very very difficult language to learn so not sure about France. Many Americans retiring to Portugal.
I hear Portuguese is a challenging language too. There are so many towns and cities in France. It really all depends on the person which ones are best. Visit different areas and towns to get a sense. But you can start off by considering weather and proximity to international airport or trains stations to figure out where to visit first. Best wishes with your plans.
I am doing fine Patricia . I challenged myself by developing my channel in 3 spoken languages . I love this long and interesting learning curve . If you have any question about France I will be pleased to help you out .Have a nice weekend Patricia . ☀️☀️👑
Better late than never! Have you ever put off doing something and after finally doing it wished you'd done it sooner???

Yes, a lot to consider and work through. But I pray all the big stuff is behind me now!😀

Good for you! A bill and delayed work you won't miss. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the Roshida interview.
Same here!
@@walking-in-heals yes, glad you've committed to getting rid of the stuff. You'll feel so much lighter!
Thank you, I’m in Britain, but thanks to Brexit the same rules apply to me. A very helpful video and thanks for the checklist.
I'm so glad you got value from this video. Thanks for watching and best wishes with your plans.
Great ideas, thank you...!

This is so great! TFS. I had no idea I could exchange my Texas DL for a French one.
Oh, Texas is one of the states that has the exchange. Good to know! Do it!
Looks like they drive on the same side of the road.. that’s a huge plus!
Yes, fortunately. One less thing to stress about.😀
Awesome video and great information. ❤😀🙏
Oh, thank you. So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
