The poster behind Marty in his bedroom that says "Sports" was for the band "Huey Lewis and the News", that had an album called "Sports" which was very popular at the time. Huey Lewis & the News performed the song "Power of Love" and "Back in Time" for the movie, and Huey Lewis himself appeared in the film as a member of the school board Marty was auditioning in front of for the school dance. He's the one who stood up with the bullhorn and told them they were too loud. 😀

Many reviewers think that Doc was being racist when he commented that the circuit had failed because it had been made in Japan. Keep in mind that in 1955 Japan was still recovering from the devastation of World War II. In the 1950s the phrase "Made in Japan" was shorthand for cheap and shoddy.

That is correct. Much of the rebuilding of the Japanese infrastructure and economy after WW2 was subsidized by the US government and done so with low dollar items being manufactured and imported to the USA.

3 observations on your reaction to BTTF 1:
    1) Every reactor is ALWAYS concerned about the dog when he is sent into the future in the mall parking lot 😂
    2) I laughed out loud when you said, “You definitely didn’t have a permit for that” when Doc sent Marty back
    3) There were no sequels planned. The movie was such a hit that they wrote a sequel and then realized they’d need to make 2 more movies to fit it all in. Producers have said that if they had planned a sequel they would never have had Jennifer get in the car with Doc and Marty because it complicated things (which is why you don’t see her character a whole lot in bttf2.)
Grew up in the 80’s, LOVED THESE MOVIES, STILL DO. Now you understand why! 😊

I noticed how you said... "I like those prices", when Marty arrived in 1955. However, minimum wage would be increased to $1 per hour that year, and the average yearly income per household was only $4,500. But the good news was that, the cost of a new home was only twice that yearly income. So even a family living on one income, could afford a new home.

I didn't know if anybody else pointed this out, but since you seem to be just as smitten with Doc/Clara as I am:
In one of the various commentary tracks out there for part II, I _think_ it was Bob Gale who explained that Clara was the reason that they wrote in Doc going to the rejuvenation clinic in 2015. Doc said "it added a good 30 to 40 years to my life". Since he was decently "up there" in age by 1985, they used that as a means to let him have a long and happy life with Clara and their kids. And I just _adore_ that. 😊

Really? According to the "Making-Of" special, it was just because Christopher Lloyd didn't want to have to wear aging prosthetics for the movies.
In the first movie, he wore a latex mask to make himself look older for the 1985 scenes, because the majority of the movie was spent with the 1955 Doc. But movies 2 & 3 mostly featured the 1985 Doc, and Lloyd didn't want to have to wear that stuff for the whole movie, so they put that scene in to explain why he looked younger.

That is how trains worked but not how buses work. On a bus the cable signals the driver that you want to get off. On a train the cord activates the emergency brakes. Marty didn't just carry Doc into the house but balanced him on the hoverboard which is why it was in the house.

    “Where is the marshal?”
As a kid, I bought the BttF3 novelization at a school book fair, and there’s a scene wherein Tannen and his gang ambush Marshal Strickland and shoot him in the back. As he lays dying, he makes his son promise to devote his life to maintaining “constant discipline.” I don’t know if they actually filmed that scene or not, but it’s why, at the end, it’s a different lawman (not Strickland) who arrests Tannen. If you notice, they cut away from his mouth as he says “You’re under arrest for robbing the Pine City stage”; I’ve always assumed that’s because the actor actually said, “You’re under arrest for the murder of Marshal Strickland,” and then they dubbed in the robbery part instead later.
As for why they cut it, I assume someone decided actually seeing a character murdered in cold blood was too dark for what’s overall a fun, (relatively) lighthearted series.

A lot of people who react to this movie never seem to realise that Marty did not time travel on purpose the first time. He accidental turns the time circuits on with his elbow when he changes gear.
The question is not how many kids jump in front of his car, but how many kids are peeping on his daughter and does she do it on purpose because she's just hat darn thirsty?
Something that was often missed at the end was that Marty wakes up with an envelope with his music tape in it. Early on he and Jennifer talk about it and him being too scared to do it, but after changing his father's confidence, it changed Marty too and he had it ready to go in the morning. Very easily missed but it's a nice touch.
The one thing that always bugged me though is Biff waxing George's BMW. How did that convo go? "Hey Lorraine, remember that guy who SA'd you in the school car park when you were 17, I'm gonna hire him to come to our house and wax the cars, k."
"Sure George, he's the reason we fell in love after all... I mean that kid Calvin that looks exactly like Marty played no role whatsoever and there's no reason to ever think about him right?"

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

LOL it is weird that George and Lorraine would be okay with hiring Biff to wax their car. Lol they just did away with it with them agreeing that assault is what brought them together hahaha. As for why George and Lorraine wouldn't recognize "Calvin" in Marty, I always just chalk it up to the fact that in 1955, Marty was only around for just over a week, and was never seen again. Even if he did effectively get them together as a couple, you try remembering someone you just hung out with for a week, from 30 years ago. You'd have the memory, but you more than likely wouldn't be able to place a face. Shit, I'm coming up on my 20th high school reunion, and I know for damn sure I wouldn't be able to remember someone's face unless I had a yearbook lol.

12:17 to answer your question, yes, they did list the occupation. Mostly abbreviations, for example: plmbr for plumber, atty for attorney, and sometimes 2 numbers for one person such as dent for dentist and another number just below for res which meant residence.
I recall in the 1980s that they would list the resident’s number and if the resident wanted to do so, they would include the second number and it would be listed as children’s since some households would get a second line for the children (teens).

Apparently Mary Steenburgen was cast as Clara because she had starred in the 1979 time travel movie Time After Time, in which H. G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell), author of the novel The Time Machine, actually invents such a machine and uses it to pursue Jack the Ripper from Victorian London to 1979 San Francisco, and finds himself being a fish out of water in lots of very funny ways. It's extremely worth seeing, and if you thought Marty McFly was a little off the wall calling himself Clint Eastwood, just wait until you see what Wells calls himself.

"I'm walking here" is from Midnight Cowboy, not Taxi Driver.
The writers were stuck with Jennifer going with them, since that was how the first movie ended and there were no plans for a sequel at the time. Leaving her alone meant nothing since they could come get her minutes after they left her.

I can't help it, but the scene where the time machine disappears when hit by lightning, always reminds me of the Challenger Shuttle disaster. My brain just could not accept that it was gone, even though it was obvious what happened.

Excellent reaction yes they changed Jennifer from the first movie because her mother got sick. She quit acting to take care of her so they replaced for the Elizabeth shoe for the other two movies for the rest of the series and a deleted scene in a in the DVD of the future, the reason or disappears when he gets to DeLorean back to the future is because, Marty’s mom is listening to what is saying on the roof when he gets knocked out Lorian’s door she takes the gun and shoots him because they change the timeline back. It never happened so she didn’t get arrested or anything, but that’s why disappeared from history until they fixed it. Thanks for the fun until next time.

What I love about this trilogy is that it is essentially one big movie. Each of the sequels begins exactly where the previous movie ended.
I've seen the trilogy more times than I can remember, but I still have some questions about Part 1. Maybe someone out there can offer some insight.
    1. Lorraine's father thought that Marty was an idiot. Wouldn't he have protested when he found out that Marty was taking Lorraine to the prom?
    2. How did Marty get into George's bedroom in the middle of the night without being seen?
    3. In the original timeline (in which George was struck by the car and Lorraine fell in love with him out of pity), did the redheaded boy still cut in on them while they were dancing at the prom? If so, how did George find the courage to stand up to him?

i dont know about 1 and 3.. but there is a deleted scene of marty getting into georges bedroom through the window, he also uses chloroform's to knock him out before he leaves. and doc is waiting to drive him back.
as far as point 1, im sure lorrane's dad thinks every kid is an idiot no matter who was taking her to the dance. he just seems like that kind of dad

@@playy1797 well i feel like Doc might have worked on this in the dark without Marty because anyone who says they are working on Time Travel/Time Machine would be seen as 100% Mentally Crazy so until Doc felt like everything was in order and complete was when Doc Finally called Marty to Show and Document his secret invention where it was a Final make or brake moment...if it worked Doc would be saved from a rubber room and Prision but if it didn't work Doc 100% knew he would be locked up for the rest of his life for his hand/actions in getting the Plutonium.

Yes, in 1991, Universal Studios had a Back to the future ride. It lasted until 2009 sadly, and they replaced it with a Simpsons ride instead. It was a lot of fun though. Also in 1991, CBS aired a Back to the Future cartoon on Saturday mornings, and was basically a continuation of the movies, with Christopher Lloyd in live action reprising his role as Dr Emmit Brown in the opening, and in the ending of the show. (At the end of the show, he would demonstrate a little science experiment.)

Skateboarding, as it exists today, was probably born sometime in the late 1940s, or early 1950s, when surfers in California wanted something to do when the waves were flat. This was called "sidewalk surfing" - a new wave of surfing on the sidewalk as the sport of surfing became highly popular.

I think I heard a backstory once that Doc was a relief teacher at Marty's school when he was younger, and the only person who explained science in a way Marty understood. Marty became more engaged with the subject, helping Doc at school and outside, and eventually the two became friends.
Of course, there's a possibility that in the alternate timeline created by Marty's trip to 1955, Doc remembered him and kept an eye out for the McFly family until eventually meeting and mentoring Marty.

Think about Doc! He went to the future and came back to 1985 to get Marty to fix the future, the back to 1955 to get sports almanac. Always there to SAVE Marty. Why? Marty Died in all those instances and Doc kept leaping to be there at the right time. How Doc and Marty became friends? Doc remembers Marty from 1955 so sometime b4 1985 Doc might have befriend Marty so the Timeline can continue! Great movies. We need more like this!

in my mind I like to entertain the possibility that the timeline had already been altered prior to these movies… humor me. Marty was the one who put the idea in Goldie’s head that he should me mayor, which he was at the beginning of the movie, and Marty invented the skateboard, and Rock and Roll. Maybe movie Marty is unaware of previous timelines, maybe timelines that had different outcomes for his parents and the whole world for that matter.
