I bought the Tell residential closer. Probably wouldn't have been able to install it from the horrible instructions that came with it without this video. The measurements are as follows: In a standard configuration, the unit body is mounted on the door with the nearest screws 120mm from the hinged edge of the door and the arm shoe is mounted 50mm above the body on the trim with it's nearest screws 245mm from the hinged edge of the door. 50mm is measured between the arm shoe screws and the nearest screws of the unit body. I finally have it installed and mostly working but not sure how to adjust the tension as the arm can only be installed to the unit in 90degree increments, different from the arms shown in this video and the instructions. Notes to the manufacturer: >When you refer to a Template, it should be 1:1 scale. >The drawings are way too small to make out the parts of the unit. >The drawings appear to show an arm with 45degree adjustments while the supplied arm has 90degree adjustments. >The arm didn't fit onto the shaft from the body. Required considerable filing. >No way to disconnect the arm for tension adjustments. >The speed valves are labelled 1 and 2. Why not just label them CLOSING and LATCH so we know which ones are which. >When the plastic cover is installed, the speed valve adjustments are covered up. Why not put small holes in the plastic cover to allow adjustment without having to remove the cover. >The plastic cover should just snap on and not require screws to affix it.
A bit more instructions would've been cool.. but your video helped me alot.. I'd spent 2 hours fixing the door closer, saw your video then had to take it all apart, coz I'd fixed everything upside down.. lol
That confirms it, i got 2 from a garage sale with no instructions and put it on upsidedown lol, effectively stopping the doors from opening out. Great video, cheers.
As a former Industrial Arts teacher I would grade this as the following: Narration Quality C- ; Video Quality B ; Detailed Explanation C- ; Other (Bolt Options, Left hand and Right hand door identification) D ; Overall Grade C-. I would expect a better installation video from a manufacturer but as I have found engineers can not install, explain nor maintain their products/designs........that is why customers call me to patch the manufacturer's shortcomings.......
In this video extra holes were drilled into the door that were incorrect. The installer used Sharpie marker that is difficult to paint over. The video failed to explain 120 degree or 180 degree opening(something the instructions from Taymor does not explain well). The installer does not know how to adjust the clutch on his drill and allows his tool to twist his arm and possibly over-torque the screws. Only one hole need be marked from the instructions, then place the closer on the door with a torpedo level and mark the rest. The three adjustments to tune the door are barely mentioned. This video is poor. People love to put random crap all over the internet and they seem to take pride in it.

I just bought a 600 series (size 1-4). Haven't installed it yet, but what is the weight load (amount of pressure in LBS)? My fire-rated door is pretty tight and hard to close.
Hi Brad, Door Closers are rated by opening/closing force "Size". The Size ratings are from #1 to #6, with Size #1 the weakest strength and Size #6 the strongest. Size #1 = 2 pounds of closing force, minimum Size #2 = 3 pounds of closing force, minimum Size #3 = 5 pounds of closing force, minimum Size #4 = 8 pounds of closing force, minimum Size #5 = 11 pounds of closing force, minimum Size #6 = 14 pounds of closing force, minimum
Hello My Friend, at 2:09 in your video, you spun the bolt 30 degree in order to make the adjustable arm be vertical against the door. But for my case, when i did so, slowly, the strength and the spring of that bolt spins back and made the other arm to be vertical as the bolt initially is 90 degree. With than, after installing, I even cannot open my door. Do you know what cause this and how to fix it?
These closers are one of many manufactures that make a "clone" of Norton's 1960s unitized closer. However, the adjustments are not good. In particular, the spring tension is very strong and cannot be adjusted.
This makes no sense if you don't already have carpentry knowledge. Additionally, your packaging's instructions are incredibly poorly written. I do not recommend your product.

Now the door is bouncing back when it closes. Is there any adjustment to prevent this?

refer to instructions... which are 100% in Chinese and the template is about 30% smaller than the closer so all the measurements are off. yay.
