Great points Alex. For me personally, I buy a lot of product from my LGS because I like them and I want to support them. Sure, I could find better prices if I looked around online but its not about finding the best deal 100% of the time, it's about having fun and enjoying a hobby.
I agree with everything. The hobby will remain hot for many many years. I find it important that they keep creating great shows to continue pulling younger collectors in.
I've been waiting for ages to see you knock something over! 😂 True, if the thousands of us are holding sealed, and the millions are opening, then eventually supply will dwindle. One could argue demand will dwindle as well, but so far has dwindled slower than supply quantities
Thank you for some level headed content. It's just really hard for people to imagine that Pokémon has so many fans and it's the number one brand in the world. So yeah, regular people are going to spend money on this item that increases in value. It's not rocket science, just regular math.
All I’m saying is… this ain’t beanie babies, Pokemon will go on and on and on. Yes, TPC has to adjust supply to set the equilibrium and maintain a steady growth, sometimes it’s off balance but the market adjusts and corrects to maintain a steady incline regardless of larger print runs/reprints. (Which it always does) We see this happening with Japanese SV right now, in 1,2,3 years you’ll see the same supply balancing out to the demand creating a fair equilibrium. Eventually it is out of TPC’s hands as they stop reprinting or printing and demand takes over, creating a huge spike in value for those cards that are scarce or in spectacular demand. pokemon is a great hedge against inflation, a great TCG or a simple collectible for those who are spending to enjoy and not “investing”. So Pokemon investors AND hobbyists are both chilling.
I’am doing research for uni business, i can confirm what you say. The real money sits at the mark when pokemon stops printing. Then te next 3-4 years the price will (slowly) increase. After that the price stabilize. (I dont count if pokemon is more or less populair then point zero)
@@bart5031 we have seen it time and time again especially after the baby boomers/millennials return just before/ during covid; XY, S&M, SWSH and now SV respectively all following a similar trend. Ps good luck with your uni work.

Totally agree about stepping outside the investing bubble. To anyone out there that has not built a master set, I highly recommend giving it a try. Buy 2 booster boxes of a new set you think you might like and a new binder. Then take the next few months and casually buy singles here and there, specially when they hit them low low prices. It’s the ultimate feeling when you put that final card in the binder. Gives you a goal to achieve. The first master set I’ve ever completed was Paldea evolved. No one wanted Paldea at the time and snagged a few booster boxes for $90. Bought singles at low ass prices. Now when I watch vids of all these exploding cards I’m like damn I actually own them instead of damn I want them but they’re so expensive
I completed evolutions when I got back in the hobby and had a great time doing it. Back when I used yo open product and not think about all the money I was spending 😂
I have 4 SWSH booster boxes for sale right now. Nobody wants to pay 200 a box for CR, FS, AR, LO. I am sure that will change, but this is a stagnation period no doubt.

And as you say, I actually enjoy this stuff so I dont mind ripping it myself. Just interesting.
I feel like most people are sitting on their swsh booster boxes rather than ripping them. If the supply doesn't go down, won't that keep the value from substantially rising?
The openings always slow down as sets get more expensive. The same happened in SM and XY but they are still growing and in fact saw huge rises last year. It definitely slows down after the initial rise but they are still being opened slowly out there. I am one of the people opening them 😂. Stop by on Thursday nights for the rip n ships 😁
@dashawnmartin3169 Right but if you looks at all of the sword and shield alt art set ETB cases vs 3 booster boxes, the booster boxes have all risen more in value in the same time. Just be careful with that. It's risky. But as far as checking value goes... probably after the first couple years every 3 to 6 months would be fine.
Are we expecting a reprint of S&V sets anytime soon? Prices hitting over 100 each on the cheaper booster boxes and paldea being 130 a piece, I need more cases but not as these prices haha!
I hate to tell ya this but over $100 a box is a healthy market and kinda what boxes should be at. Store still have very slim margins at those prices and it's still $60 under MSRP. I doubt we see those $80 boxes again even if reprints do come at some point in the future to be honest with ya...
Alex, this does not pertain to this video but I'd like your insight on this question about taxes. I've bought a lot of sealed BBs over the last 6 months (all have risen btw) Ebay charges 13% I don't know what the tax rate will be at the end of year. Say... 20% and then shipping services will be around 1-3% maybe more or less of the original cost of the BBs. That's about 35% in total. I'm planning on waiting until a much higher % return before I sell though. But doesn't this greatly affect total profit? How do flippers make money after end of year taxes? Is it only the capital gains that are taxed? I have been saving my receipts and just don't know the end total % rate taken out of profits due to these fees. Any info will help. Thanks.
Well first you are only taxed on your profits after original cost, shipping, fees, shipping materials, and all other expenses are taken out. Second, if you are looking to do this seriously i strongly consider setting up a legitimate business and looking into setting it up under cash basis accounting. I dont want to get too far into it because i am not a tax professional so i cannot give tax advice but there are a lot of things to do to reduce the taxes.
@@NostalgiaNomics I appreciate the response.I have a CPA buddy so I'll get more into it with him. Keep up the investing content, I take it seriously and it seems to be making me money.
I sell more just plain standard rare holos and non holo rares and reverse holos. I guarantee those people arent building for a future. They buy it cause they like it. Most people just worry about selling the top top cards when really the money is in just single cards. I mean im selling trick or teade pikachus for .99 a card. On a card most would deem useless. Sure my profits per card arent much but on average im selling dozens and dozens a day so it adds up. Meanwhile i got big hit cards NM and under market vslue and they haven't even had many views.
5:00 exactly this. Nailed the point of pokemon cards. Because we friggin like the stuff! Great vid

@@NostalgiaNomics more affordable and I can get a case of ETBS for like the price of 3 any S&V era Booster box
