F-16 flight control self test

  • I had some extra time while performing an engine run on one of our jets in Iraq, so I ran a flight control self test just to weed out any problems and ensure that everything else was ready to go on the jet so we could return it to service for its next mission. Once I "warm up" the flight controls and engage the self test, the flight control computer has the control from there on and runs it through "steps". All I have to do from there on is monitor it for faults and advance it when needed. When the test is complete and everything works as advertised all you need to do (in a nut shell) is take the switch out of test on the test panel and make sure that the flight control movements agree with the side-stick commands.

    This place was my boyhood dream. I remember how it was like to be sitting in the Viper`s cockpit and swaggering through the sky. Thanks for uploading It!

    As a Crew Chief, once you are 7 level qualified you can go through a engine run course to be certified to do functional checks on the plane so we don't have to drag out a pilot to do them. As a Crew Chief, my job was to know what the function of every switch, bolt, panel, nut, light was so you can fix it when the Pilots broke them. I'm sure Mr. AirlinePilot2008 was in the same situation. ;)

    Unfortunately crew chiefs just know general systems, they don't know all. Don't forget engine guys get first dibs on engine run class and are usually the preferred guy to do the runs just in case there us an engine issue. And since we work in spec now, most of us know how to perform a boat load of check they need done. Chiefs just steal runs, lol. @lyianx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The F-16 entered production in 1973. So anywhere from 48 years to now years old.
      But the avionics have likely been updated once or twice since then. And i doubt they detail the cockpits between flights.

    Can you tell me how to operate jammer panel? Im interested in those fancy square buttons, each has a 4 indicators, and i cannot find a data what those indicators are indicating. Is it for jamming particular frequency range?

    • @dustinschings7042
      @dustinschings7042 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The placards on the jammer panel are actually classified and should not have been on video. However, oddly enough, Falcon 4.0 is a great and very accurate resource to learning the avionics of this jet.

    • @macieksoft
      @macieksoft 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dustin Schings
      Falcon 4 do not simulates ECM panel. And is strange that civilians can actually BUY classyfied panels...
      Yes, there was a guy who shown photos of this panel and hes saied that he bought this panel.
      And on this video i cannot see this panel i asking this guy because hes a pilot.
      Its not a problem to find photos of this panel. And i am still investignating what buttons are doing.
      And even more funny is that we have access to some classyfied documents related with aviation as there are leaks and we actually have Apache Longbow block 2 TM, (S) JDAM manual and even more.

    • @dustinschings7042
      @dustinschings7042 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      macieksoft the guy in the video is not a pilot. He is a maintenance guy performing a functional check. You may be correct about Falcon 4 not showing ECM, it has been many years since I played. As for the panel itself, only certain Perron's are classified (certain symbols). It is possible someone got one without the classified symbols as the placards cans be changed out.

    • @macieksoft
      @macieksoft 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dustin Schings
      You suggest that somebody made a fake placards? I don't think so. It was looking real. I also found some other images showing the placards.
      And yes they can be changed because whan software changes and implements new functions they must get represented on them.

    • @dustinschings7042
      @dustinschings7042 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      macieksoft well that was not what I was suggesting. There are certain configurations of the panel that do not include classified placards. However, it is not a stretch to assume, now that you mention it, that a fan/collector would buy the panel and make his own placards. Worth pointing out, I'm not just trying to be a smart ass here, I worked on f16 avionics from 2007-2012.

      The dogfight switch configures the aircrafts weapons system and displays (HUD, MFD) for air to air combat. This way if you have to suddenly engage an enemy you dont have to waste precious time pushing a lot of buttons to get everything set up.
