I just watched the part “Living on the ragged edge of reality again, Bunny”….made me smile, then looked down and saw your comment. What a great character 😊👍
I live on a farm full of old troughs and tools so this has given me two valuable ideas to reflect the farm in my garden. Brilliant! Thanks you so kindly for such good ideas🪴🪴🪴
Oh this was fun! Bas was a character, and I'm so impressed that he built that beautiful home in a year; it looks like it's been there for two centuries at least. I love studying photos of 'old architectural things' from museums, and have read many books on English Country style and gardens over the years. While we likely won't find actual Victorian church finials here in San Diego, there are a lot of inexpensive reproduction items to be found, which have a historic look. The key is knowing what makes them look authentic, and taking advantage of opportunities. I rescued a redwood bench from a dumpster once, and found the back piece of a large wall fountain with a relief of the Buddha's face one of my Mother-in-law's tenants had left behind. We also have large cobble rocks in the area, which I am saving up; you see them used for walls, borders, and columns in neighborhoods with Craftsman era homes. Love the gate!! :)
@@bunnyguinness unfortunately I’m in the US, ☹️☹️☹️. We do have flea markets that have a lot of different things from junk, to antiques and collectibles, but I’m so glad you had fun, I know I would.
So creative and inventive. I wish this video was 10 hours long. Please do more of Bunny's early work for those of us who only recently discovered her genius. Many thanks!
Salvaging just feels good. Took a second hand galvanized but rusted old chain link fence gate that had a charming horse on top (for free) spray painted it a pretty coastal sage green for my garden. Just made me happy. They are like $300 new and plain but not as charming!
Love a retro trip! What a clever man was Bas...to have built such a beautiful, exquisitely finished period style house. The antique implement gate was inspired!
I really enjoyed this video and wouldn't we all love our own personal Bas. Access to markets like the one in Nottingham sadly not available in Western Australia so we make do with what we have and in my case, having a country garden with lots of red gravel rocks, quite a different aesthetic - we do have all our lovely WA native plants to play with though. I've recently had a go at making a hypertufa trough with hubby's input on the concrete mix and enjoyed the process so much that I'm keen to try making a larger one of the size Bas had in his garden and would also have a crack at making one out of a limestone block. In my mind, I can see hubby rolling his eyes, LOL. Looking forward to Part 2.
Love your videos Bunny - and this one was really fun. I love gardening and my husband just built me a little greenhouse which includes some old windows and an old French door that I have hung onto for years. 😊
i absolutely love your videos on garden adornments and pots, please keep it up, i have yet to find zinc to clad my pots, i wonder if there was any way we could get an updated garden tour of his home since its been a while im sure the maturity of the garden must be incredible !
Is that birdhouse at 4:14 floating? I wonder if I could float a beehive out over the water and pull it back in with a rope to feed the bees or maintain the hive.
It’s a duck house, Bas bred rare ducks too! I think he floated it but anchored it with weights - it stopped the foxes getting to the ducks. Interesting idea with bees but would they use it over water and I had thought that bees hated their hives being moved and also I think the gentle movement of the hive might not be to their liking, they are sensitive to movement🐇
@@bunnyguinness That's true that bees don't like being jostled. I thought it might keep the mice away, but who knows? I put a small hive (an eight-frame hive, one deep and one super) on a dock that's over the water. It took a while for the ants to find it. The birds found it too and they eat the bees in flight, but it's not too bad and the birds would find the bees regardless. It's a new experiment on location. It may have to be moved if a neighbor complains.
Where can we find this TV series Bunny referred? Would also like to see it, however to complicate things, I live in Georgia, USA. . Don't find anything on TH-cam. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
I can not find any trace on the web of the 36 programs we made over three years ago. The one I did with the BBC Capability Brown's Unfinished Garden does get repeated quite regularly though. We did a series of Make Overs with Carol Vorderman on ITV years ago, but no trace of that either, and one with Rachel De Thame making over a small town garden but that has disappeared too. 🐇
Lead is toxic! You MUST advice your viewers about the risk of handling lead cladding and inhaling lead paint. Do they even sell lead based paint anymore?
Ha. “Living on the ragged edge of reality again, Bunny”. Love it! Never heard that expression before.
