    The tastiest meals I have had were made in simple kitchens without power or electricity. The masala was ground using this simple stone grinder or ammi kallu or sil batta.
    This traditional kitchen process with the masala grinding stone is alas out of fashion now, but still, in my native villages, people do use it. I have a small one at my home too!

    When we grind in the electric mixer it cuts what ever you put but when you grind with this kind of stone things gets beaten or smashed giving out all the flavours. There is difference between cutting and smashing and that’s why it tastes better.
