Super job on that stem compadre, very nice! Don't be too worried about the makers mark on the stem though, in my experience, most Kaywoodie inlays hold up nicely in Oxyclean and alcohol soaks. Vaya con Dios compadre

Nice job on the stem. I've tried Magic Erasers, but they just end up tearing apart rather quickly. Those metal one-piece stingers are a real pain in the.......well you get where I'm going. I took a hack saw to all of mine and cut them off just before the thread. Now running a pipe cleaner is much easier.....with a thin pipe cleaner, mind you.
Thank you, the stem took ages to do but came out rather well, it has also stayed shiny and black since, I have bought a buffing wheel for my drill for next time. I was not too sure about the stinger I must admit and left it in, I can get a falcon pipe cleaner through it when it is removed from the pipe but not when connected which is a bit of a pain.

....Oh, and the pipe draws easier as well. I can understand that some do not like to alter the originality of the pipe, but in my opinion, a pipe that doesn't draw well, is a pipe not worth keeping.
Could not agree more, for me a pipe can be as pretty as can be but if she does not smoke well what the point. I was surprised at the draw with the stinger as it is relatively free, I would have chopped it out if it did not smoke well but I did want to keep it original so was pleased to be able to do so.
That came up really well. I find restoring dirty old estates very rewarding and I'm sure you would agree. Can't wait to see the rest of this restoration. Thanks for posting the video.
