A modern ultra supercritical coal plant's emissions have to be detected with sensitive instruments to detect air particulate matter. It is not visible or harmful. Sulfur dioxide levels are far below acid rain concerns. Unburned hydrocarbon emissions are frequency stated to not exist. Nitrogen dioxide emissions are currently being addressed at current coal plants. NOX causes smog. It condenses at 70.2°F and rains out of the air in 5 - 10 days in cooler climates. Natural gas turbine generators are excellent at quick reacting peaking loads.
