    Hearing those words from the event organizer filled my heart. I can't explain how tired I get of people clumping the CONTINENT of Africa together like it's one place that's all the same. There is so much unappreciated diversity among the people, animals and even the landscape. He also touched on how people think of it as being nothing but poverty. What he said really meant a lot, and more people need to think that way.

      Yes, he is very connected to different communities in Africa. I believe that he lived in Tanzania for almost 8 months. I can't tell you how one sided the view about Africa is here in Korea. America used to be like that years ago (I remember seeing infomercials about Africa's poorest people). This idea fuels the unconscious classification in Korea. If you say that you are from Africa, almost immediately they feel sorry for you. But images like this one help to change this mindset, slowly but surely.

      I agree. It is a huge pet peeve of mine when people talk about the continent of Africa and the many lovely countries that are there.

    • @Chuschannel
      @Chuschannel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surely you cannot be saying that Africa in general, that most of the countries in Africa are wealthy, first world countries with high standards of living and low crime like South Korea has? The "stereotype" of Africans being relatively impoverished and with many social and political problems is well deserved. Korea is much more advanced and developed than ANY African country.

      Chu Kim ...and ? Guy you seem to be so full of yourself it sounds ridiculous 😂 Just let me remind you that Africa's still supposed to be the wealthiest continent in the world and that if countries like Korea are developped and wealthy, it is through to the sacrifice of millions of African people and ressources. Have you ever wondered where the key components of your mobile phones, the uranium, the gold that you have, the fuel you use for your car, the chocolate you eat came from ? I doubt that it is from Korea. So please stop making a fool of yourself by bringing your uneducated and ignorant a** here again. Come back when Korea and other developped countries will be able to be totally independent from African ressources. Peace.

    See, THIS is why I sub to you, Nat! It feels good to learn about Korea other than K-pop and K-dramas. I LOVE your perspectives and your take on the Black experience abroad in general. Keep up the good work girl!

    • @_FabulousNat
      @_FabulousNat  8 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Thank you! This is exactly my goal. I hope to show people how diverse Korea really is. I think that the Kpop/Kdramas definitely drown out a lot of that and makes Korea (in my opinion) seem very artificial and manufactured. Korea is quickly diversifying and this is just one of the ways it is.

    This is really nice to see - I think in china they have a love-hate relationship with Africans. Like they love their music and going to clubs with a lot of Africans (a lot of them are club owners/promoters for the clubs/DJs). However, it is very difficult for Africans to get professional jobs like in finance, hospitality or education because they want "white faces" in some cases or "only native speakers." Its why I don't even bother with teaching in China-I have no patience for ignorance lol, I'm so lucky I'm in the industry I am because its only based on what college you went to/results. This is great to see-now I'm totally more excited to visit Korea!!

      I actually saw a video about a black woman working in China where this girl in the comments kept talking about how terrible it was for black people in Korea vs China. I'm still trying to figure out how she thought China was superior in this way lol.

    I love how they are bringing African culture to Korea, that is amazing. I can tell that most Koreans think Africa is nothing but poverty but in fact it is one of the top richest countries in the world, their is only a certain area in Africa where poverty is held. We should educate Koreans about that more in schools because society/ media teaches them otherwise. Thanks so much for this video 👏🏾❤️😌

    At first I had a thought that Korea was the most racist country in Asia or possibly the world but when I got addicted to kdrama and kpop, I wanted to see how they actually treat my race cause damn here I am voting for kpop mostly bts in every award and just supporting and defending korea like its my country from some people saying Korea is trash and plastic. I live in Asia, well Philippines and they aren't really racist, yeah some, we always have the racist people. But the favorite white people more, they don't give black people Jobs, so most black here are poor and have to do awful things to survive but I am so shock seeing blacks in Korea being a teacher, having good jobs and then now a African festival which I would never have think they would have especially in Asia but wow! And they aren't like Filipinos, Filipinos are mix and dark but sometimes they wouldn't want to touch you, so they wouldn't be dirty they say lol, but Koreans are so touchy, yeah annoying but cool also, I met a Korean once, and she thought me Korean and kept hugging me like crazy even when we just met, Filipinos like to talk to you, take pic but won't Want to touch, well the racist one, but many Filipinos date blacks a lot, mostly the girls Filipinos. This just cool, makes me love Korea the more. I've heard so many negative things from Filipinos about Korea, Filipinos like only like the boys, the boy group and wanting to date them for show cause kpop is very popular here but then when you say that Koreans are pretty, theyd start talking trash about Koreans, so yeah. I am ranting so much lol, no ones gonna read this!! XD

    Festivals are the best, I love that they are showing what Africa has to offer. The best Indian food I have ever had was from a coworker. I guess because it's too spicy and hot for most people some of the restaurants I have gone to watered it down. Spicy doesn't necessary mean HOT HOT HOT. How was the Indian food?

    Hey TravellingNat, I'm really enjoying your videos - thank you for putting out great content! Just a quick question or two, when did this festival take place and will there be anymore like it in the coming month? And what is the weather like currently, as I noticed many were wearing jackets. I'll be visiting Korea towards the end of September and I'm hoping to attend at least one festival. I also need to start packing for my trip, so any tips re what sort of clothes to pack would be much appreciated! x

    to me south africa is a very beautiful country that doesnt have much access to other cultures but is really openminded when they get a chance to experience something diffrent
    this makes me very happy it just shows how respectfull korea/koreans really are and that the majority of the country isnt rassist as some people say
    i never experienced hate or racism from a korean person and as an arabic person that just makes me feel very good because it feels like at the moment the whole world (not everyone of course) kinda hates us for something that isnt our fault
