Right? When I hear about the state of television in that time period being average to bad (not entirely, of course, but people compare this show to the programs of the time as being much deeper), but it helps to actually see it. You’re right, when I first saw this, for some reason, I thought he was interrupting or something...nah, far from it.
It's kind of crazy how much more timid women were in interviews in the 90s. Dana almost stands up for them and gives them a voice so they don't have to risk sounding combative or self-congratulatory. Piper Laurie has a more self-assured vibe, but she's the biggest name in the cast and that's just her personality. The younger women seem as though they feel the need to be cautious in interviews though.
Such a great set of actors. All beautiful people. This show was a true masterwork. I've watched it about 4 or 5 times, usually with a new group of friends, and others who've already seen it. It's so delightful.
sometimes i wish i had friends who liked twin peaks but sometimes i like sort of like keeping it my own secret because it speaks to me so deeply and personally and i'm afraid they wouldn't understand.
+greatleapforwards you're right.... But I think you have to look at it as a domino effect.... Twin peaks allowed for continual serial drama stories like oz and then eventually the sopranos to be aired.... They of course led to the rise of cable..... And it just snowballs on from there. But you are right. It was a gradual shift.
At the time, TV was a death sentence for the career of most actors. It signaled they couldn't get work in movies but were suitable for something like a soap opera. Most people at the time wanted to start in TV and go to movies. TV was literally called the "idiot box". It was considered very odd that an avant-garde and quite successful person like David Lynch wanted to make a TV show. But honestly, when this show hit, the entire nation was mesmerized. People had something out-of-this-world and intriguing to talk about. Something very similar happened when Seinfeld aired. Both shows truly revolutionized their genres in the media of TV. Now, because TV is no longer limited to a September-May season on three networks like it was 25 years ago, big-time actors/directors/writers jump at the chance to make finer and finer entertainment on the small screen.
LOL! I was a teen in the '90s and I too recall when TV was considered inferior to film. That's why you often had actors like Shelly Long *(Cheers)* or David Caruso *(NYPD Blue)* who left their shows in a vain attempt to carve out a successful film career. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out for them like it did for, say, George Clooney *(ER).* Nowadays, the distinction between television and film is blurred and it's no longer an issue, it seems.
My only regret is that I was too young to talk about this in the water cooler the next day. I feel cheated for only being able to discuss with the cult followers in contemporary times.
Middle class white suburban America was not ready for something like Twin Peaks! Remember this airing alongside stuff like Full House and Perfect Strangers! Also, that one guy asking Peggy about what happened to the other Mod Squad actors?
This Donahue guy is a god awful interviewer. Barely gives the actors time to answer questions, constantly interrupts them to make stupid irrelavent jokes, makes dumb remarks about their appearence, and doesn't seem to have any distinguished order or structure for his questions. Just some old guy making out dated jokes whos all over the place and can barely properly structure his own show.

Great timing for Donahue to get the cast over at one episode before the end of Season 1. Anybody knows how many episodes after JR was shot before the shooter was revealed? On Twin Peaks, it was either 15 or 17, depending on if you can read between the lines.
The audience is surprisingly obsessed with finding out who killed her…this is cannon that they pushed so hard obvs but like dang, they really wanna know…dang boomers…honestly though, if I had been watching the show as it aired idk what id do, maybe I’d be the same
i just say those words, to a french discover TWP at 25 years old, is not a good sandwich :) but this itw give me the chance to know about new hampshire to be honnest, i think that this serie is a good new for this time, but for the career of D.Lynch, maybe is the "goutte de trop"
the host acts like every creepy old guy that hits on you at your minimum wage fast food job. and why does the audience keep asking questions they don't know the answers to? they aren't the network or agents lol
Dana Ashbrook saves the interview. Donahue was all over the place.

Peggy Lipton is like 44 yrs old here. She's effin stunning!!!
WTF? Really? She's amazing!
She's really freaking hot.
She is
He doesn't even give the actors time to answer the questions lol
Donahue was an awful host
Piper Laurie seems such a nice and intelligent lady, and looked amazing for her age.
yeah she was almost 60 here(58 specifically) and a rather pretty woman.
I still cant wrap my mind around the fact that this god damn masterpiece was _canceled_
All the girls looked absolutely lovely in this show! even Piper Laurie!
Such a great set of actors. All beautiful people. This show was a true masterwork. I've watched it about 4 or 5 times, usually with a new group of friends, and others who've already seen it. It's so delightful.

Leah Callahan same
Oh my gosh dana is such a sweetheart
Wish the interviewer wasn't so fast paced and actually let them finish a thought...
One of the daughters that Peggy Lipton mentions of course is Rashida Jones.
OMFG I had no idea! I feel like my whole life just changed lol
They have the exact same smile ! Took me a while to realize they were related.
Even Eric DaRae is a sweetheart. What a cast
Peggy Lipton is an absolute beaut!
I just started watching Twin Peaks on Netflix it's pretty good.
Peggy Lipton... my heart...
Any other dude got a man crush on Dana .. damn LOL
Total 90s babe
Gorgeous
I'm in love with Peggy's smile
4:24.... This guy pretty much nailed the effect twin peaks would have.
+Luke Morris very insightful question...but i reckon in reality it actually took about 20 years for the stigma to be nullified
+greatleapforwards you're right.... But I think you have to look at it as a domino effect.... So true.
@@greatleapforwards It was a gradual process but it started with Twin Peaks.
Maybe Twin Peaks started the "TV is like a feature film". Interesting that was brought up then since today there are abundant.

Twin Peaks saved television...everyone needs to take heed of what David Lynch did here. And take the journey.

So many awkward closeups of the audience members!
I cant wait anymore since they announce the Blu-ray release on july 29, 2014. I wish it was today.
It was the father
peggy Lipton, I love you for ever
THESE GODDAM AUDIENCE QUESTIONS
For real they should have given her a part in the show
Sheryl Lee is an angel and we do not deserve her on this earth
My only regret is that I was too young to talk about this in the water cooler the next day. I feel cheated for only being able to discuss with the cult followers in contemporary times.
Yeah I got that too.. don't know if I've seen Dana anywhere out of Twin Peaks time for some research
Peggy Lipton is such a beauty 😍
Peggy is such an underrated beauty! She’s such a beautiful looking woman here!!
Middle class white suburban America was not ready for something like Twin Peaks! Remember this airing alongside stuff like Full House and Perfect Strangers!
Also, that one guy asking Peggy about what happened to the other Mod Squad actors?
There's 5 parts! This would have made my twelve year old self so happy.

That taxidermy deer...my the standards for a talk show set have changed over the years
Dana Ashebrook... Jeeeeeeeez, sooooo hot!
Man this show was so good. It could've still been going today. Random plotlines, wouldn't care. It would have all been good.
It does sound just like him!!!
Peggy is the most beautiful woman alive
4:50 beware the Overly Interested Hipster Gaze
girl @ 1:42 has DAMN beautiful eyes
They're surreal
glad others noticed
Very Twin Peaksesque
Haha, I just commented about the same thing before I saw yours.
"Jade give two rides"
I'll bet she did!
4:33 that guy talking about TV acting stigma was kinda dead on wasn't he
Season 1 was excellent. How excited viewers were. Then season 2 was crap!

If they only knew that the “re-runs” would still last for over 30 yrs….

1:40 those eyes...
Wow, those eyes at 1:40.
That means she was 69-70 years old during Twin Peaks the return.. 😮 wow
Phil Donahue was such a good host
Dana - so hot!
man, rashida jones REALLY looks like her mother. i mean seriously
They almost look like twins.
The audience is surprisingly obsessed with finding out who killed her…this is cannon that they pushed so hard obvs but like dang, they really wanna know…dang boomers…honestly though, if I had been watching the show as it aired idk what id do, maybe I’d be the same
Peggy I love U!
The town of Twin Peaks had the most beautiful women on the planet for some reason. 😄
Why is there no audio on this video?
I feel like Donahue never watched a single episode before he just buffered some info for the show. He feels so out of place...
That was every interview he ever did. He was exploitative. Oprah really just stole everything she knew from his format.
Madchen was so fucken pretty
was!?
Damnit these audience questions are so cringeworthy!!
haha, this guy barely lets them answer any of the questions
Probably Lynch's idea ...
Is that Melissa McCarthy at 3:30??? Seriously sounds and looks like a young Melissa!
let them speak my god haha
i just say those words, to a french discover TWP at 25 years old, is not a good sandwich :)
but this itw give me the chance to know about new hampshire
to be honnest, i think that this serie is a good new for this time, but for the career of D.Lynch, maybe is the "goutte de trop"
Dana seems like a really nice guy but he talks too fucking much here!! lol. He always starts talking even when he isn't asked to
The real Laura Palmer 1:41
David Lynch sure knew how to cast smoking hot women.
@carmangeria haha yeh
Donahugh is creepier than anything in Twin Peaks
2 33 - 2 36 Great. No one really knows...
Donahue was such a prick
man alot of hair spray and teased hair in 1990.
Bobby's so LA
the host acts like every creepy old guy that hits on you at your minimum wage fast food job. and why does the audience keep asking questions they don't know the answers to? they aren't the network or agents lol
Donahue is a terrible interviewer. Just awful. What a wasted opportunity.
I see how Trump became president now.
The host is terrible.
Gee, if Dana likes to be at the centre of attention.
