I focused & designed preamps for 5 years, I have validated that good old Germanium sounded better than tubes or silicon semiconductors.... Its just simply a night and day comparison. It surprises me few Audiophiles have tried germanium transistors for preamps. Once you try, you'll never go back! My humble opinion :)
Esoteric Audiophile - I grew up listening to a Philips Hi-Q International stereo amplifier and I concur. That was the sweetest sounding amplifier I ever had. The outputs were germanium AC187/188
Exceedingly good, Transcendentally good , Shockingly good , with that look slightly to the left and up , if i didnt know better i would think he is telling the truth
Clearly the in circuit transfer function of the system changed when the preamplifiers were swapped. If this didn't show up on bench testing then clearly the bench test procedures are inadequate. If what you measure is different from what you hear, the problem is with the measurement procedure. I'd appreciate your comments on this subject Bascom.
I don't get the camera switching......I was always tought that if the switch doesn't add to the production, dont do it......with a single person it is very very distracting.
Believe your ears. Psychoacoustics are not fully understood. Measurements tools are currently not a perfect way of determining sound quality, as the conversion, from the recording process to re-creation through to the output, via speakers/headphones, is not a natural one. Binaural recordings and playback through headphones might be pretty close, though still not perfect. It's all about trying to find the most realistic sound quality, and the best measuring equipment does not always win. In the end it's all just going to be an approximation of audio reality, no matter how good your measurements are.
this is literally audiophools in a nut shell. Crazy old men with Alzheimers In a small room full of electronics from the 70s, thinking that voltage sounds different! XD

this is news to me. very interesting. my mom used to grow germaniums in front of the house.
@@kenolson6126 I love how they smell. makes sense that EnEm above would describe the sound as sweet.
I like what appears to be old Heathkit equipment on the bench. Maybe high voltage power supplies?
Heathkit HV supply on top, LV supply on the bottom. ;)

They need to sell a lot of this stuff, so they will say what's needed, all fable about tubes.

Like the old school CRT computer monitor to his right.
it has also floppy disk
someday i hope to afford this level of gear
excellent...

Harb's Elecronics Lab - That was old school. Nowadays the thought is to keep switching to keep you engaged
transcendally good. nod to bruce rosenblit
was this recorded in a chimes factory
Did I hear cowbells in the background ??
bleepetty bleeping wind chimes
What brand 12AU7 did you use?
PSVANE 12AU7
What preamp is he talking about?
Why dose't Bacon H King design us a 250 watt Stereo Valve Reference Power Amp
That right! oh, wait, he just did...🙂
imagine if uranium sounds the best
Moe Betta
Can you measure the difference? No - you've just got to believe!

Tungsram PCC88/7DJ8 Made in Hungary:)
Commentators unnecessarily rude and harsh in my view.
Inventive idea using a vampire in your video.

iheartcomps ... coming from numbnuts like you who have prob only made an amp by shopping at Radio Shack.
And you wear pijamas and the sound of your cellphone is enough for you
Voltage does sound different, just ask Eddie Van Halen, it's how he got the brown sound.
That’s a very disrespectful comment and yes you made it years ago but I wonder what enlightenment you have brought to the table of thoughts
