One of the better memories I have of my Dad was when i was 8 years old and I was looking at Ebony magazine and saw an ad for Hubert Laws Crying Song album. It was the first time I remember seeing a flute and i fell in love. I had to have one!!! Dad went out and got me one AND a copy of Crying Song. It was the first album i ever owned and the flute was the first instrument I ever played. I found out today that he died (my dad) and though we were not close, I hope he rests in peace...
Whoa, I knew this song through its use in a lot of hip-hop records (stuff that Ski and Pete Rock produced), but I didn't realize it was a Floyd cover, let alone one from a rather overlooked Floyd release (the soundtrack to More). It's actually one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums, still way underrated; Laws holds it down lovely.
No it's a Hubert laws song bruh. Im sure Pink Floyd got a lot of inspiration from this cat as well as other American Singer Song writers, as did The Who, The Beatles and countless others. No disrespect, just droppin some gems for ya.
I know you commented this 7yrs ago, so I doubt you'll ever see this... (ha), but Pink Floyd's version actually is the original, and this Hubert Laws' version is a cover (via: secondhandsongs.com/work/36608/versions#nav-entity ). This version of the song is the only one I've heard to be honest (i.e. I'm here as a Hubert Laws fan rather than a Pink Floyd fan), but you still have to give credit where credit is due

Thank you for sharing, man!
the beginning is sampled by Fat Jon for In Position which is on the Samurai Champloo soundtrack
Most obscure couple of Floyd covers ever... and delicious too... captured the atmosphere like no other.
