Fabulous video - so excited for you all. You two are both inspiring but Iris is just off the scale. Incredible! Safe travels and I look forward to following you over the next 5 weeks x
We (2 couples) rented the same size RV from Cruise America and drove the entire length of the Oregon coast successfully a few years back. Pick up and drop off were easy. We, also, stopped at Walmart and bought anything extra that we needed at the beginning of the trip- couple extra blankets and stocked up on food. So I think you have a good plan. Congrats to your mother on almost reaching her goal.(There are many Americans who will never achieve this) My husband and I have been to all 50 states. And my advice on these states :Try to get to Custer State Park in South Dakota. We saw more wildlife here than in Yellowstone. I'm glad you are getting to Grand Teton - It's simply stunning. And if you happen to be on the road and go through Miles City, Montana, eat at Hole in the Wall Family Dining. You won't regret it. Last but not least, I live 15 minutes from the Denver airport.😀 So feel free to ask any Colorado questions of me - I've been all over the State of Colorado and can give you any info you need. Safe travels!
Thanks so much for your message, it’s reassuring that we seem to be not too far off the mark in our plans. We watched a few fab you tube videos about the Dakota’s and have Custer park on our list. We are so excited about our 10 days based in Colorado. We are looking to spend a few days in and around the Rocky Mountain NP and can’t quite work out the driving permit, do we need to prebook a slot to actually get in the park? Mum is just an inspiration! She will only have a couple left around the Great Lakes after this trip 🇺🇸
@@earlyretirementwanderlust I am sure it will be an epic trip! Rocky Mountain National Park requires reservations/timed entry until October 22. So yes, you should prebook. There are two options: a timed entry for park access or timed entry for park access plus which includes Bear Lake. I would recommend Bear Lake as an easy hike if you're interested in doing a short walk. (It is just a walk around the lake at .08 mile but it is at elevation)The "big thing" in the park is the Trail Ridge Road which goes above the tree line from one side of the park to the other (the towns of Estes Park to Grand Lake) This road can get quite crowded but hopefully with the timed entry system it will keep the numbers down. The only thing you will have to decide is if you feel comfortable driving it in the camper - you may decide that after a few days of driving. Custer State Park has an 18 mile wildlife drive and we spotted bison - one walked right past our car touching it - wild burros, prairie dogs, coyotes and pronghorn. It's a very cool state park. Safest of travels and enjoys! Can't wait to view the videos of your adventures!
Crested Butte or Telluride or Durango are all great places in the western part of Colorado. Boulder, Fort Collins, Loveland, Colorado Springs are all close to Denver and have great day hikes.
We are so looking forward to our time in Colorado we will have about 10 days. We have fingers crossed as we know the weather can be changeable at this time of year!
Hi guys it sounds like a fab trip you have planned. We did a similar road trip many years ago. We flew into Denver, and we then traveled around Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota & Montana. Some of the places we visited were Estes Park, Cheyenne, Mount Rushmore, Cody, Buffalo, Casper, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and believe it or not Dubois. We walked into a bar in Dubois, it went silent and everyone looked around at us, the barmaid then said “What are you guys doing in Dubois” laughing her head off. We went to small cafe in Dubois the next morning for breakfast and got the most amazing Elk sausages. If you like Rodeo we would recommend the Cheyenne or Cody Rodeos as they were both very good. We’re sure you’ll love this trip and spending some time to be with Jackie’s Mum as she adds to her State count will be well worth it indeed. Happy travels when the trip comes around. Irvine & Karen.
Sounds like we are pretty much doing the same tour! We are really excited, mum is looking forward to finding small town America, not sure if we are ready for Dubois 😂 just keeping our fingers crossed for the weather 😬 me and Richard have been watching Yellowstone in preparation but I am not sure we are getting an accurate picture of Bozeman and Montana 🤣🤣 we have our cameras ready as we would love it if we saw some bison, moose and bears x
@@earlyretirementwanderlust We had a small bear running right alongside our car in Yellowstone. It was in the days of the old video cameras and I was hanging out of the window videoing it 😂😂😂
You will have a blast, we have the same ambition to see all U S states. We’ve been to the 4 you’ve mentioned more than once, so much to see and do. When in Colorado don’t miss the hike to Maroon Bells, also Rocky Mt N P is fab.
We are hoping to do 4 days in the rocky mt NP on our way back to Denver Just Montana that we need a few more ideas for. glacier park is too far north and opposite direction from Dakota’s
@@earlyretirementwanderlust Shame you won’t make Glacier, maybe another time. Obvious ones are Yellowstone & Grand Tetons. Oxbow Bend G T at sunrise is magical. Don’t forget the ‘State Parks’ some are hidden gems.
Great video. I'm a teacher in the UK, taking my pension early at 57 - though have agreed to do another year part time. After that, very much want to road trip the USA. How safe did your mum find it? Did she do car hire at all? Does she stay in hotels or airbnb? Many thanks
Hope you are enjoying the freedoms of part time teaching, I worked pt which was great as I could do all marking and prep and have evenings and weekends free. Mum usually travels for a month or 2 in January to Florida and tags on a few states each time mainly by flying into a larger town then getting a bus tour that might go across a few states or the train. She doesn’t drive except when in Florida. She has said that she likes to get to her destinations in the daylight when on her own but generally feels safe and stays in hotels like holiday inn express. She will only have a few states left around the Great Lakes after this trip 😊

She is just an inspiration to us all. Will send you photos if we see a bear 🐻

Hello, while in South Dakota, try to see the Chief Crazy Horse memorial. It is really interesting. On the way see Devils tower in Wyoming.
Thanks so much for this, these tips are why we put the video out!

@gillianh we want to go to glacier NP when we explore the Canadian rockies from Calgary in a couple of years. So much to explore!
