I love his absolute child like joy he has any time he does a project. You can tell he absolutely loves what he does and it's beautiful seeing such a passionate maker. You rock dude, keep on doing awesome work!
It's so cool to see you actually listened to what many people commented which was using a steady camera instead of a handheld one :) Thanks for listening!
Have loved working with jesmonite for about a year now - this vacuum former looks like it would make things so much smoother when it comes to mould making! Thanks for the suggestion 😱☺️
I just love how this guy always does such professional looking products while still staying super easy to follow. I'd love to get that machine! I'm a mechanical engineering student and already have a 3d printer so this addition to my work space could give me a lot of new opportunities. Thanks for posting such amazing content
We don't know how strong it is. Even if you were to cast it with a metal support embedded inside, we don't know if the edges will crack and chip off with normal use.

Hi Alexandre, got to say i dont think i am in a position to make full use of a Vacuum Forming machine yet, but just seeing you work with one gives me so many ideas on what i would do with one. I love watching your videos and i just want to say that you have a unique ability to motivate and inspire. Just looking at some of the techniques you use i am truly jealous of your work space and your know-how, and you have a positive attitude mixed with a genuine joy for what you create! Thanks for making these videos for us - please keep going!
This is the first time I've seen a machine in a youtube video, where I'm actually planning to buy the machine. I've seen a lot of desktop vacuum forming machines, but they've all had some glaring issues, this is the first really well put together design I've seen.
The sanding technique is super cool! Never heard of this stuff but you make me want to go out and buy a tub of it. Great content as always, you continuously inspire me. That vacuum former is sick too.
I work for a company that does full scale thermoforming by using the same properties as this product. This is such a cool representation of how the process works.
Your video is about the most informative I have watched. You show the products from start to finish and the chemicals needed for the versus looks. Very well done, and I'm about ready to start a new hobby!
This looks like a fun alternative to smelly epoxy / polyester resins - just wish it were available in the US! Thanks for the contest and for giving us a heads- up on Jesmonite!
I definitely enjoyed it. I am going to be casting with resin instead, but I can use some of your color mixing and terrazzo techniques to make some nice soap dishes and rafts for my wife’s soapmaking biz. Great energy and presentation.
Incredibly cool and easy way to make molds. I live in Sweden (Europe) where can I get hold of a vacuum forming machine? How durable is this Jesmonite material? We are racing in Karting and sometimes you may need to manufacture one part to mount on another part, e.g. special mount for Gopro camera. I could 3D print the part but a cast part would look much nicer, have a more professional look. Kind regards Niclas
Hello Alexandre - great videos, learned a bunch from your videos! just about to turn 68 and I still am to have a flexiible mind and a huge desire to assimilate new knowledge THANKS!
Have always been interested in vacuum forming but they have always generally been to big for the space I have available. Really cool that there is a Desktop version.
What a great video! The casting material you are using is a real game changer for brilliant colors and effects. I enjoyed your tips about not sanding PLA. Thanks for doing this. A vacuum former is something I had been looking at getting for a while, but could not justify the cost. Thanks!
The vacuum former is cool, but I want to know more about this Jesmonite. Well, I want the jesmonite as it appears that it is some form of gypsum in resin. And guess who has both gypsum and resin? I guess you can take the boy out of the laboratory, but you can't take the laboratory out of the boy.
This is so awesome. I seriously just was trying to explain to my friend about vacuum forming and she didn’t understand and then I found this and she’s like wow I love this. I really want one of these for starting a new business idea that I’ve come up with recently! Good luck to everyone!
Jesmonite materials are non-solvent and contain zero VOCs, however, please be aware that we have not tested any Jesmonite products for food safety. Jesmonite.com
Would like to watch a video about the strength of this material. Another thought, wouldn't adding the orange bits into the black one make it more brittle?
This is amazing I want to see the bigger one, how big can you get with vacuum forming? I hope to play around with one of these soon what a fun machine!
Super cool post-processing step for 3d prints... I'm curious how strong/brittle Jesmonite is, and weather directly 3d printing molds for it is a viable approach. Can it be strengthened by adding fibers to it?
Regarding the nut tray: if you wanna go through the process, you could try nonplanar slicing, which (as long as the top is shallow enough) prints the top surface as one layer crossing multiple layers. Like laying a new layer on top of the stairs trapped layers.
The key try, place a rare earth magnet inside the mold, when you put your keys into it some metal part will stick and the keys won't fly out that way it can't mar a wooden table or any scratches on a glass surface. Also add a rubber bottom with door stops used for kitchen cabnit doors. Metel used to make a vacume former back in the 60s my older brother had one, I remember burning my hand on it.
It looks so cool just to play with the form and colors! I had a blast making soaps with my daughter - I can’t even imagine what we could do with being able to make our own molds with such an ease :) Definitely going to try the Jesmonite.
I've always associated vacuum forming with making masks and cosplay items. Never thought about making molds. Amazing. That's a must have in any maker's shop.
Well, this sure made the whole process look easy compared to some other vacuum forming videos I've seen, lol. Definitely going to have to check out Jesmonite.
The black coaster looks awesome, to save time could you not put in the broken pieces in the vacuum formed piece first and then pour the black? Maybe leave air bubbles? :/
I would be interested in a video about the limits of these awesome machines... like how tall the molds can be without the sheet ripping or how many small details can be transfered to the mold.
Your imagination and ability to think through the details is impressive to watch. It would be interesting to do something food related as the transparent sheets are apparently food safe, combining the vacuum former with the 3D printer would offer up some really interesting design ideas for custom food moulds for chocolate or even something like a burger press.
I love his absolute child like joy he has any time he does a project. You can tell he absolutely loves what he does and it's beautiful seeing such a passionate maker. You rock dude, keep on doing awesome work!
The blues on the shallow dishes remind me of The Great Wave.
