  • 1934 Russian Cocktail - Early Vodka Cocktail - Cocktails After Dark
In 1934 and earlier Vodka cocktails didn't appear in many American cocktail books - for sure you could find a few, but Vodka wasn't all that popular yet and not many brands were imported to the U.S. and Canada. I do find more (when I say more I mean 2 or 3 instead of 0 or 1) Vodka cocktails in European cocktail books of this same vintage; but still not popular by any stretch of the imagination.

This was the first time I yelled "YES" at the screen while watching a video of yours. When you decided to make that third drink, I got excited and expected great things with it! Did not disappoint. Great call. I am not a cocktail person, but I bet this one, especially that one with the egg is amazing! Great call!

The first time I had an old fashioned Martini with both vodka and gin, it seemed to me that they sort of canceled each other out and were easier to drink mixed together than either would be straight. Maybe that contributes to the easy drink-ability of "The Russian".
