  • In this episode, I compare the Samsung SVR-165 and Samsung VK-30R VCRs. The eldest was produced in 2003, the youngest - in 1993.
VCRs are similar, but the 2003 device is faster (loads the tape onto the head drum instantly), and the parts of the vintage player are much more reliable. Being a newcomer has its advantages. HE instantly rewinds the film (very fast, super fast rewind of video cassettes). The new VCR also weighs more than 1 kg less.
Overall both VCRs are good, but I prefer to give credit to devices from the 80s and 90s.

I like the 1993 Samsung. After inserting the cassette, it starts playing the movie very quickly (this feature is only available on this VCR).

The best quality picture was produced by the Philips 2000 system. Far superior to both Betamax and VHS,but a nightmare to repair. Grundig also used this system.

The 2003 looks a little bit sharper.

Huh! Comparison entails comparing functionality and hardware like Display processors etc.

As it turned out, the picture is very similar, and it is almost impossible to see the difference.

in the eraly 2000's they all took on the same generic look and all used the exact same transport with metal parts so thin they may have just have been made from tinfoil. This is also when the quality of VHS started to decline. I remeber when our old VHS broke back in 1999 and when we got a new one it was no where near as good in picture quality despite being much newer.

I agree with you. Since the early 2000s, the quality of VCRs has declined. If VCRs were still being produced now, then most likely they would have a very short service life, barely exceeding the warranty period.
