Others like myself I guess, said that like 10 years ago. They're not going to places. They're top notch human behavior, already in places. But welcome!
One thing that amazes me is how a drummer figures out what to do in these songs! Tempos change, all kinds of stuff happens and he is right there, shapeshifting. It's pretty impressive.
I'm 71. I should hate this song. I love this song and I have no idea why. I've probably watched the "Dancer" video twenty times, too. Now, I was a radio DJ in the 70's, so there's that. I want Idles on a double bill with St Vincent.Just something about Joe and the band that pulls me in.
It's because it feels real. In this era of overly processed music that takes no risks, this harkens back to what music used to be. Compare this to some modern metal and modern punk rock. Those genres now have tuned vocals, time-aligned and sample-replaced drums, Midi bass, etc. etc. It feels more like a CGI-heavy Marvel battle scene than it feels like the raw edgy music it should be.
Valerie, I’m just interested, why ‘should you hate this song’? As you say. I’m 69 now, and I’m extremely picky when it comes to new music, whether it be contemporary classical, jazz or rock. I never thought I’d hear anything to match the raw power re the latter genre, after hearing Nirvana, and that was how many years ago, now? And now here’s Idles, making me dance like a Dionysian crazy every time I hear this track.
@@brenhugh Only because I know what I'm usually like and the areas I usually stick to and I hadn't been too adventurous of late. I like melody. But I also tend to surprise myself and this was one of those surprises. Why is the drummer underrated? Who did underrate him, you? Y'all who do these "...underrated" comments on musicians, your ability to think twice why would you say this drummer or that bassist or else are underrated. Not everyone needs or wants to be upfront and be famous and chase clout and are happy and proud and happy of keeping all that at bay while loving playing his stuff. I can't understand why these days people and audiences are so icon hungry, that they constantly need some icon here and there to stare at and follow individually.
Wow wow wow. This performance is intense and beautiful at the same time 🖤 The dedication and mindfulness they are putting into it are powerful. Plus: the line "Fuck the king. He ain't the king. She's the king" cracks me up EVERY SINGLE TIME 😭 So grateful they are doing what they are doing
I just found out about them a few days ago and I'm fucking in love with the sound and the energy and the whole fucking enchilada. Haven't felt this way about a band since Oasis.
Just fuckin brilliant. People say the UK has no culture! Yet they consistently bring out some of the best music over the last 70 years, and it is not stopping. Go on you good thing.
On a recent TV show in UK they stated Liverpool has the most number one singles in the world. It's only second to Detroit, but considering the size... It's incredible!
The only people that say that are silly woke progressive kids brought up and brainwashed neomarxist institutions. Young Europeans still flock to England by the hundreds of thousands each year as, while their countries often have beauty and better health and education systems, they’re kinda… boring. British soft power is still utterly immense for a tiny island. It dwarfs the rest of Europe and in many ways even rivals the States.
Just Idles, doing Idles things, as usual. I love this tune. The performance is tight as despite the fact they all look like they've dialled it all up to 12. Also great to see Jools doing his best to represent good music irrespective of genre. Jools doing Jools things too..
I love this song. Joe has such a unique approach to lyrics and being a front man. The “watch watch my my steed steed go go far far” is such an interesting way to say that line 😂
Saw this live last night here in Denver and holy hell these lads are firing on every single cylinder. Don't walk, run, to get tickets to their live shows.

No that won't be the case. Really good band but nothing more. Ive been listening to music for more than fifty years, there's always been bands like Idles around.

Easily one of the most unique...authentic...dynamic...and provocative bands around these days. In those ways...I would almost compare them to Radiohead...but then again...nothing can compare to Radiohead.
I would say IDLES are far more provocative than Radiohead. They are mostly too inscrutable to provoke. "I put homophobes in coffins" is pretty uncompromising.
It's always like each member of the band is completely doing their own thing but it all gels together to create something great.
They are just impersonating the dance scenes from Peanuts.

So they are a band
IDLES is one of thode bands where every single member looks like they're having the best time of their life. ❤

Said it 3 years ago, this band is really going places. We really need this type of music right now.
agree.
Excellent point👏🏼
Who did you say it to? Did we miss a press conference?
Yeah these guys are fucking important to today's music. Rock isn't just alive, it's stomping and thrashing.

Just saw these guys at Ohana 2024 and my mind was blown. Amazing live, and dangerous, performance. The real f*ucking deal.
Their drummer is absolutely sick
Yes! That fill into the chorus absolutely rips
Sooo damn goood. Performance, lyrics, musical dexterity(drummer is amazing) delivery and energy. Probably one of the best frontman to boot. All of it.
One thing that amazes me is how a drummer figures out what to do in these songs! Tempos change, all kinds of stuff happens and he is right there, shapeshifting. It's pretty impressive.
He does not improvise you know 😅 as a drummer myself i am not impressed
My favourite song off the album. Absolute banger.
They get better every year. Man. This is magnificent.

It's the energy and conviction. What I want to hear from the younger generation. Being a drummer, I dig the solid tempo and straightforward power.

Look at what came out of places like Bristol and Manchester in the 90's that still kills it today and this is coming from an Irish guy.
