In Germany the word "Patzer" actually refers to a blunder in the chess context, though it's also used outside of chess to refer to small mistakes. I did not know it's also a chess term outside of Germany.

Italian here, just a little clarification for the pronunciation of "fianchetto":
it's actually pronounced fianKetto, just like Pinocchio.
Whenever the letters C and H are next to eachother in Italian, it will automatically make the sound harder. The opposite is in Spanish.

  • @MainlyRuby

Heres some terms you missed (they might not be completely accurate so dont trust a random guy on the internet.
    1. Double check: A double check refers to when a piece moves to check the king, and at the same time reveals a check on the king. This is often credited as the most powerful chess move as it forces your opponent to move the king, not only helping you gain a tempo but also possibly set up windmills(see later explanation) and discovered attacks.
    2. X-Ray. X ray is a derivative of the term skewer, but x ray can be used in a larger variety of scenarios, and is also often used when an attack reaches multiple pieces behind the originally attacked piece on the file or diagonal. X ray is often used when the king is the attacked piece.
    3. Windmill. This refers to the act of taking a piece with discovered check, then coming back to check the king after it moves with either a rook or a queen. This is a rare chess tactic that usually only occurs when the king only has 2 legal moves, eg on the backrank while being blocked by a piece. This allows you to capture every single piece that is on the same file as the attacking piece.
Tell me if i missed any lol

icon picture error ... you have a black pawn moving diagonally to an empty space,
Unless the rules have changed, a pawn can only move forward in a straight line (I.E. in the same column) UNLESS it is capturing an opponents piece.
Most unusual. I played Chess in Junior High through High School, and a few games in the 50 years since graduation. I am not a "pro level" player by any means. Nor am I a complete pushover.
I don't know the terms you are referring to. "CHECK" and "CHECK MATE" are really the only IMPORTANT Chess terms you NEED to know before you play the game.
It is NOT necessary to know te names of moves or openings to enjoy playing the game, or to play the game.
Anyway, the illegal move shown in your icon picture destroys any and all credibility you might have had. It has earned you "DO NOT RECOMMEND CHANNEL" status.

If by "icon picture" you're referring to the thumbnail of the video, then it is you who is wrong, not the author of the video. The left side of it shows that a white pawn moved 2 spaces as there is a yellow square where it used to be and where it is now, and it was its first move. Before white pawn's move there was a black pawn on the 4th rank, so the moves were something like this(let's say the black pawn is on the e file before the en passant): 4. ... e4 5. d4 exd3. This is a completely legal move called En Passant, and it IS a capture move. What is amusing to me though is you being ignorant of chess rules and calling people non-credible. A quick google search reveals that he last country to adopt this move was Italy in 1880, and I highly doubt you've been playing chess in Italy until 1880 because you said "Unless the rules have changed..."
