Overdose is awesome, has great enemy design, level design and the new weapons are cool too, don't let TB put you off people. The series only started going downhill with resurrection. Heck the only reason why this game exists is because of Overdose's success, people believed they could do the same as Mindware, so they did and made shitty mods like this. Point being, Overdose is awesome, don't let TB's false facts say otherwise.
I really don't understand how people can fuck up Painkiller so often. Is the original concept really so difficult to grasp? It's the absolute simplest formula you can find. Every developer keeps trying to change something or add something and every single attempt falls flat on its face. Fucking unbelievable.
TB moans all the time about "FOV" making him feel ill but I have to say, having watched him play quite a few, that the way he plays FPS's is guaranteed to make me seasick . . .
True,so true:) Yet he has some big monitors and he sits close to them(like most people),so even something like 70 can fuck him up.I have the same problem with some games,I can paly mw2 with 55 fov(cuz you can't change it) but I can't play skyrim without using at least 110 fov.It's all about tastes and shit:))
If you haven't tried it, get it. To date it's still one of the best fps out there. The level design is stellar, monsters are awesome and the guns are bizarre but equally awesome. The stake gun is my personal favourite for combining a grenade launcher with a mechanic that nails enemies to walls with blocks of firewood. Oh, and then there's that gun that fires shurikens and lightning... But seriously, get it :) It's worth every penny.
Another thing you forgot to mention: there were no secrets to find, at least in the area you explored in the video. That was a big part of the original, at least to me. With such small areas and limited fighting space, there's not really any way you would miss something.
@Ziddaan He played first Painkiller and he knows what is he talking about. A) Mosters variety in this level don't make any sense, they just don't fit the level in general (just throw EVERYTHING). B) Getting a 50+ enemy battles EVERY STEP wasn't a part of the first game. C) battles in general level exploration contain a 30-60 seconds fights, and only open areas battles took longer and have more enemies/variety of enemies. It is really more like an parody of the series.

You're absolutely right about it being a money grab. The problem is that after the first expansion the publisher ran into some financial trouble and decided they could no longer afford to pay People Can Fly to make more painkiller. However, rather than sell the IP back to PCF they decided to start publishing Painkiller mods as full retail products. The series has had a different studio working on each new iteration of the game and the only studio that was knew what the hell it was doing was PCF.
@ProductionUK real mature response there, they actually revamped the engine to a degree with this add on and improved the graphics so it is a valid question especially since he tends to bring up these issues with most games.

Cheat codes are now usually DLC. Need for Speed games have a choice to pay to unlock everything and Saints Row 3 actually have cheat codes in some of the DLC for example.
@RockcrabOnShiva Not really sure what you were hearing, but his main problem was the pacing: too many enemies for too little progress and too many new enemy types with too few new weapons. The original Painkiller didn't flood you with all of the enemy types all at once and let them sink in, and each time you made progress, it actually felt like a new room. It felt like a mod regardless of who made it; if an indie dev made this he would still be disappointed by it.
People complaining about TB not picking up the shotgun that was on the floor for a really long time need to go to 2:39 in the video when he tried to pick up the shotgun and it clearly says "You cannot pick up shotgun now". And then smack yourself for not actually paying attention to the video and only paying attention to him complaining about not getting to have the shotgun.
I actually didn't know everything after BooH was from a different developer, but BooH itself proves my point. It's just more of the same in terms of gameplay dynamics, structure, graphics, etc. with some new content, and apparently whoever took over the series thought there was nothing wrong with more of the same and even went as far as to screw it up (slow pace, bad level design, etc.).

Also, this addon/expansion has NOT been made by People Can Fly (now a subsidiary of Epic Games), but in order of Nordic Games who aquired DreamCatcher Interactive (the original Painkiller publisher).
There was some sort of atmosphere, that the enemies are designed and well fitted in a leves (burning town=zombies throwing crap at you, castles=badass knights). On top of it, there was this intense and really fun gameplay, interesting level design and music that boost up player adrenaline level. There's nothing like that in this game. It's just "milking" a franchise/fans in my opinion. Who is responsible for this?, surely not the makers of original Painkiller, People Can Fly.
My guess is he was thinking he had to clear the room / meet some random criteria and then it would come up saying "You can use it now" which is what I would have imagined I would have thought in his stead.
While I completely agree with you on the 'arena's' and weapons I think the enemy variety is awesome IF (and this is indeed a very big if) the variety keeps this way and they keep throwing new enemies at you and they didn't just make 10 kinds and put them in from the start.
Tbh,I strongly recall that the first level of (the Original) Painkiller was pretty much the same within the weapons department. Started out with the painkiller and then found the shotgun in the next room, didn't find the next gun until the next level.

I like the old Painkiller, with the expansion pack Painkiller Battle Out Of Hell. That was so great that I love it. Then I tried Overdose, which was "WTF happened with such a great good game?" Redemption and Resurrection are the same. Watching the latest videos of Recurring Evil and now this video, I have to say that the Modders killed Painkiller. The original Painkiller developers shouldn't be punished, it's the Modders.
OK come on guys to be fair we were paying attention to the text box which is why we caught it and he didnt, the box didnt go away it simply changed "cannot" to "can" in the same screen while he is fighting, how is he supposed to catch that? it was an extremely subtle change. sheesh
I think what people are forgetting, including myself at first, is that you are a critic. You buy these games (or are provided them) so that you can give other gamers an honest opinion of what a game has to offer. To my fellow gamers: if you want to hear ONLY great things about any given title, look up game reviews outside of TBs channel.
I said, I normally like his videos. I like when he's objective and fair to the game. Therefor I give him constructive criticism. If you don't agree you don't have to.
It's not that he thinks that variety is a bad thing, rather that it sorta defeats the feeling of exploration you get when discovering new enemies throughout the game. If it just throws all of them at you at once it doesn't give you much time to study them and learn their tactics. It's the pacing of the game rather than the variety that's throwing him off.

Enemy variation is ment to force you to play differently and adjust to to them. Big melee enemies --> shotgun, large groups --> explosives, etc Here its a number of enemies with slightly different stats and looks but it doesnt really matter. He's not complaining about enemy variation, he's just saying that the variation is badly put in

In this shit they just throw a quarter of all the enemy types at you at once. It's ridiculous! This is not a real Painkiller game.
i would hope people would be sensible enough to understand this is his opinions and thoughts about any game that's new and to a extent, every video he does is the same concept. he tells you what he thinks about something and you feel free to either ignore it or take it into consideration, he has the right to say how he thinks about anything. even if you don't like what he has to say.

Long story short: TB would not have to say a single word - the replay of Level 01 itself speaks loud enough. This (despite the better gfx) is kinda like Doom 1. But, by all means, we are no longer in the 80s.

The menu is in Times New Roman! I remember back when I bought Resurrection on release, as stupid as that was, which was the first of the three Re- games released by this same group of fan-devs that are basically hiding under Steam's 'No refunds' shield and profiteering from the success of the original with minimal effort. And there's the extreme hostility from those devs on the Steam Forums when people came back and basically said "This game is broken. Fix it."

i remember playing painkiller some years back with a friend and was so funny cause he was just extremely good with the gun that shooted wooden sticks or smth.he had a ridiculus amount of nut shots with it

I gotta disagree with TB saying its bad that they only give you 1 weapon at start. The whole point of this is to have you forced to use a shitty weapon so when you get a new one, you feel a sense of advancement and massive euphoria that you now have a better gun. That's why almost no games give you every weapon from the start.

I have noticed TB doesn't notice/ignore such "tips" quite often in many games. I agree that it's difficult to play the game AND record it (I would never be able to play a game and explain what I'm doing at the same time), but nevertheless, from the second it said "You can pick up the shotgun" until the moment he picked it up, all that went on in my head was... "pick up the shotgun, pick up the shotgun, pick up the shotgun!" ...

Long story short: TB would not have to say a single word - the replay of Level 01 itself speaks loud enough. This (despite the better gfx) is kinda like Doom 1. But, by all means, we are no longer in the 80s.
If you want dishonest game commentary, find another channel. You can cry an ocean of tears to drown me in and I'll just build a damn boat and sail away.

I remember back when I bought Resurrection on release, as stupid as that was, which was the first of the three Re- games released by this same group of fan-devs that are basically hiding under Steam's 'No refunds' shield and profiteering from the success of the original with minimal effort. And there's the extreme hostility from those devs on the Steam Forums when people came back and basically said "This game is broken. Fix it."
He doesn't review games, it's a first impression. And if you watched his other videos he reminds people again and again that it's a first impression.

i remember playing painkiller some years back with a friend and was so funny cause he was just extremely good with the gun that shooted wooden sticks or smth.he had a ridiculus amount of nut shots with it
@ErikReinholdtHansen probably it's based on the actual time when they started variety Gaming and TB was probably the first one to start with this concept.

I gotta disagree with TB saying its bad that they only give you 1 weapon at start. The whole point of this is to have you forced to use a shitty weapon so when you get a new one, you feel a sense of advancement and massive euphoria that you now have a better gun. That's why almost no games give you every weapon from the start.

I have noticed TB doesn't notice/ignore such "tips" quite often in many games. I agree that it's difficult to play the game AND record it (I would never be able to play a game and explain what I'm doing at the same time), but nevertheless, from the second it said "You can pick up the shotgun" until the moment he picked it up, all that went on in my head was... "pick up the shotgun, pick up the shotgun, pick up the shotgun!" ...
just get the original painkiller to start, its one of the best PC fps ive ever played, enjoyed it greatly, over the top goodness :-D
