  • Being able to break the Guard in BJJ is an essential skill. But it's a task that is not always the easiest, depending on the guard player on the bottom.
    In this video I got a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu question from Tom who wanted to see a Guard Break from the standing position.
    I have about 3-4 that I will regularly use.
    In this video I show the "chair sit" variation to break open the legs.
    The idea is simple. We work our way up to the standing position. And from there we position or knees and legs in a way that creates a massive amount of pressure on the hips to pry the legs open.
    Now, as is true with every move, it's not full proof. You have to keep a lot of control on the legs. Because as soon as the legs open up the person can trap your legs if you're not careful.
    So in the BJJ standing guard break video I show you what to do if that happens.
    If you're having trouble breaking the guard then I hope this standing break is useful for you!

    I watch a lot of your videos and appreciate all of your teachings and insights. I have Ushers syndrome, I’m blind and deaf so these videos are very helpful because I can rewatch them over and over and focus on what each body part is doing. It is also very helpful when one of you is wearing a white Gi and the other a dark one so I can differentiate the arms and legs. I hope to attend your seminar in March in Melbourne Fl and get to meet you. Thank you so much for all of your helpful posts.

      @@carnagedestruct1520there are so many new assistive devices and apps out there to help people who are blind to read and talk and type for you. Also being blind doesn’t have to mean total darkness. I have very little central vision left so I can focus on a specific body part like a hand but the rest of the video is blurry. I have to use a cane to get around because everything is blurry except for one little part. There is more to being blind than total darkness. Try walking around looking through a dim lit peep hole and see how fun it is. I rewatch the videos over and over paying attention to one body part at a time until I figure it out. In class I work with a partner and feel what they are doing to figure out the move.

      Then he sweeps you. Probably will finish you off, or ground and pound if on mma, since you are a pussy. Glad i can help u. Now, truth be told, my instructor does this all the time, its kind of hard to get a -closed guard sweep against standing opponent -since when you grabs his leg he already got halfway trough the process of breaking your guard.

    I need help with motivation. I have no motivation for BJJ, and I love combat sports. How do I motivate myself? Been starting to feel depressed, because I can’t motivate myself and it’s starts feeling like a chore to go practice. :((

    • @chris5658
      @chris5658 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Set goals for yourself before you go to practice and try to accomplish them. Sign up for a tournament. When there focus on having fun most importantly, progress isn't linear. Some days you will do worse than the day before, other days you will notice you have gotten better. Hopefully that helps.

    If you ***windsheild wiper your second leg*** before you stand, it takes a lot of the weight off and is a lot easier to stand. (Learned this from Matt Thornton - he calls this the Silverback Guard Break)

    • @af4396

      He's controlling one arm and has his elbows inside the hips. Lumberjack sweep on someone good requires two hands to block the feet, and to bring the legs tilted into their diaphragm area. It's hard to tilt the legs when you're elbows are blocking, and you also can't grab both feet.

    Hey bro I'm not sure what I should do here so if you could give me some advice that would be very much appreciated. I was training Jiu Jitsu last Saturday and he gym owner/instructor pulls his gun out of his holster when he is off the mats and starts waving it around pointing it at people for no reason and laughs. He has done this the last 4 times I have been at the gym and I'm afraid he will accidentally shoot someone. Should I leave this gym? Should I report him to the head of the Association? If you could please help me I would be eternally grateful, thank you.
    Edit: His pistol doesn't have a safety system and he has said himself it is loaded.

    • @GlowTheEditor
      @GlowTheEditor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it will be very difficult to sweep with the legs when he has control over the hips. In addition you would bring the other leg back when guard has been broken
