    In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Opeth.
    A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician, on the road at age 17 for two years, then went part-time ever since, while holding day careers including chef and spiritual health care while raising a family.
    As a producer I've made hundreds of my own songs for media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I mostly abandoned the prog genre in the 90s but have returned to it now with vigour 30 years later. So much prog! My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk / acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electronic as well). At the end of 2022 I fell into a shoegaze rabbit hole (so you will see lots featured here.)

    BEST SONG! The acoustic breakdown in the middle is golden.

    Aaaah Martin Lopez on drums. Left after recording this album. Went off and sorted his mental health out. Came back and formed Soen…
    For me Opeth we’re never the same after this record. For me they peaked right here. Just my opinion of course.

    I love the ending of this track. I've always wondered if the ending to the Theocracy song 'Nailed' took inspiration from this Opeth song? It has a similar type ending, though not quite as difficult to count.

    Adoro questa canzone. Per favore non farti ostacolare dai vocalizzi estremi nell’apprezzamento di queste gemme e capolavori di musica, sarebbe un peccato. È fantastica anche la parte in cantato duro e gutturale , è un dialogo fondamentale. Ti suggerisco The Drapery Falls come prossima reazione. 👌🏼😀

    I am the same way. I used to avoid Opeth because I knew Mikael used harsh vocals. Now I love how they are used in contrast. I still can't do monotone screams like Between The Buried and Me, but maybe one day I will adjust. Two things stand out to me in Opeth. The Keyboard subtle work in the back adds depth and the backing vocal low in the mix makes Mikaels voice soar.

    • @batweed
      @batweed ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Monotone screams are more of a rythmical element, much like chugging distorted guitars.. fun fact: the two things that you pointed are played buy the same guy (keys and bvox..) ;) also try to pay attention to their bass, underrated imo but a killer bassist nonetheless!

      tommy in btbam had a lot more range on the record alaska. instead of just a one not growl theres pig squeals gutterals and high black metal shireks and its a lot more interesting. its funny how after colors tommy's clean vocals got a lot more varied and mike patton-esc but his growls were reduced to a flemmy one note scream lol
