The Queen jokes with a Canadian officer with 27 years service, saying "it looks like that" as she admires his array of medals. She meets representatives from the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery at Windsor Castle, a contingent of which assumed the Queen's Guard earlier in the week. Report by Tom Edwards.

The way she was able to make small talk with everyone she met and made every person in her presence feel special and seen is a gift no one else has. I met her Majesty forty-six years ago when my unit, detailed to be her American honor guard during a state visit to the US at our Bicentennial. She was nothing like I expected! Conversing with us few, whom she spontaneously approached alone during a quiet moment without ceremony, she was easy, always interesting, and pleasant in both conversation & company, setting us at ease. She could do this with the high or low born without prejudice. In short, she taught me what a truly genteel person may be, leaving me with a lesson I've taken to heart and passed onto my own children.

@@magneto44 "By custom, we allow our politicians to retain their titles for life. Throughout the 2012 election, Mitt Romney was referred to as 'Governor Romney,' though he had not been in public office for six years," Cooke wrote. "One can only ask, 'Why?' America being a nation of laws and not men, political power is not held in perpetuity, and there is supposed to be no permanent political class. "...It is wholly proper for individuals to adopt titles when they have been hired by the people. But it is utterly preposterous for those individuals to retain those titles when their commission has come to an end." - yet Clinton was Secretary Clinton which ended in 2013 and is still referred to as Secretary Clinton almost 10 years since she held that position. Kissinger is still referred to as Secretary Kissinger and he left office in 1977... 45 years ago. And People call him Mr Secretary. President Carter is still introduced at functions and people still say "a pleasure to meet you President Carter"
over 70 million Americans still refer to the Pope as "Your Holiness" and local bishops as "Your Excellency"
So you call other humans as you say by other titles as well. Queen Elizabeth is not just the Queen of the United Kingdom (which is 4 countries) but also of 14 other Commonwealth realms. And also the Head of the Church of Anglican Church - over 85 million people in 165 countries.
Of the global democracy index (you know a tally of how democratic a country is) 12 of the top 18 are monarchies. The USA is ranked 26th and before you chose a Repub or Dem reply to that point, the USA has not been inside the top 20 since 2010 and never inside the top 17.
SO yes great that the US gained its independence from the Crown. But Calling a head of state by the title they are entitled to as the head of state is something you do and you take it beyond their time in office. The Queen has been the head of State of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for 70 years.

@Mizzy Roro Albert died relatively young, when he was just 42, after 21 years of marriage. Victoria herself was the same age. Compare that to the marriage of Her Majesty the Queen and Philip, her consort....who had a much longer marriage of 73 years! They both were getting on at Philips death and knew it was coming very soon... being able to prepare themselves.

I don't know why, but this particular video made me cry real tears of grief. She's been the Queen my entire life (and the entire life of my mum!) and one just believed she'd always be there. She looks more frail in this video in a way I hadn't noticed the last few years. I think we took it for granted that we'd never lose her.
Grief comes in stages and seeing Her Majesty return to Buckingham Palace for her Lying-In-State today is bringing it home that she's really left us. No one will ever be quite like her and we're all the poorer in spirit for her loss.
Rest in eternal peace, Your Majesty. Thank you for everything. 🕊️🤍

They have stepped back from the firm, but not the Queen. It's interesting that Brits don't use every possible opportunity to take jabs at Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Prince Michael -- all have used their royal connections to enrich themselves. THAT is a disgrace to the Queen and the monarchy. Harry and Meghan did what they needed to do to protect their children, only after the firm refused to allow them to work part-time while still making a living without public funding. That's noble.
