Yes this is me Tony Saunders playing on this track. It was a great time and I thank my Dad for including me. You can tell by the tone its not John Kahn. Plus he never played this song. John was gone for awhile playing with Brewer and Shipley.... Thanks for noticing someday I will get my just due. Thanks for noticing.....
Tony Saunders First time hearing this and It’s very interesting hearing your bottom end instead of Kahn’s style. Puts the sound in an all new perspective and I’m digging this big time. So is this still LOM?
Tony, you dont need me to tell you that you are straight thumpin' this thing all up and down the block. Congratulations, sir. Your playing is a delight and a joy. Let me ask you though... Jerry played with a lot of people, but he played an awful lot with a very small group of the same people. As someone who has collaborated primarily with people other than Jerry Garcia, can you share any observations about him as a player? What about as a person? Im interested because the Dead world can be so crazy insular. A lot of it is all the same people saying all the same things to all the same people. But youre not really one of them. So what was your take?
Tony Saunders posting up on a TH-cam video where he's playing with Jerry and Merl? Oh my freekin' gawd, it doesn't get much cooler than that. Probably the coolest thing I've ever seen on TH-cam, DANG!! Thanks Tony!
Thank you for posting this fabulous tune. I dig the bass line that Tony Saunders magnificently lays out: it just drives this jam to the heights of Funky Town. God Bless Tony, Merl, Bill & Jerry!!!
I'm 51 and never heard this version before other than Weather Report. Kicking my booty up and down the block. Wowie Zowie. Jerry rocks when he has his moments. Totally amazing.
@@monsterjazzlicks Nope. Still remember picking it out of a record bin back then, vividly. Wasn't even sure what it was. But I had struck gold. One of my favorites to this day
I’ve been seriously digging this weather report tune lately and looked for a live version on TH-cam and found that Jerry g the man himself played it! Holy cow. Thanks so much for posting. The groove is strong in this one and thanks to Tony Saunders proving once again that you can’t hold no groove if you ain’t got no pocket
felt like I recognized this immediately in first line my favorite Garcia is his work with Merle Keystone Berkeley seemed like their home Merle deserves more credit than he got as a song writer, is my opinion Wondering Why; My Problems Got Problems, more than I can remember OK, I see below it's a Weather Report jam; that explains the recognition but might have been at this show ... saw these guys every show I could in mid-70s & had friends in Berkeley who'd clue me when they played there thx for posting this treat
Hi Tony, thanks for responding. I'm going to forward your reply on this YT page around to some of the Garcia fans who keep track of his projects outside the Dead. It's been obvious to some of us for awhile that it's you on this date at least, but it's great to have confirmation from you. The whole show that this track is taken from is great, though the recording is flawed at times if I remember right. Anyway thanks for taking the time to write back!
Bruvvvvvvv this is so wild! I can’t believe what I just found 😵🙌🏼 Jerry the fucking legend Garcia covering Weather Report ...... WEATHER REPORT!!!!!????!?!!! Are you serious?? Haha so crazy never ceases to amaze me 😂🙏🏼💪🏼 shout out to Tristan for getting me into the dead to begin with!!

This extension of Jerry is my favorite. IMO better and more fun then GD.
