I’m 27 and I often times wished I was born earlier just to experience them both, they are both 2 of my favorite artists of all time! Nothing will compare to them💯
I am from a rural town in Oklahoma and a lifetime fan of both musical icons/legends. I grew up on the Jackson 5 and Motown and I'm an Irish/ Native American mix. (That may surprise some people.) I know a great deal about Michael Jackson and Prince and have had the pleasure of seeing them both in concert in my lifetime. I was at the 1984 Victory Tour concert that kicked off that tour in KS City. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 5th row from the stage ground seats, nobody sat in our seats. We all stood in them the entire concert. I saw Prince perform twice in Oklahoma City, the Hit & Run concert and Musicology. These two men were never to be compared to each other, they were so different as artists. Like 🍎 and 🍊, they had their OWN indevidual and INCREDIBLE gifts creatively. We appreciated them as indeviduals. They will never be replaced. 🕊🕊
That's what I thought too, they are far from being alike. And personally, I prefer Prince and grew up in the same era in 1984, I was just turning 7 in July. I also grew up in an interracial household
Prince and Michael were The Artist and The World's Greatest Entertainer, both unique and sublime in their own special way. In the final analysis, it's foolishness to compare the two.
I feel bad for the Gen Z kids you see in comment sections who need to pick-a-side because they grew up in the stan culture era where liking Taylor Swift means you have to hate Beyonce or vice versa.... those of us who were actually there in the 80s and even 90s loved them both and realized they were two entirely different artists
Thank you. You can definitely tell who wasn't actually around at that time. We didn't know or care about any behind the scenes foolery, we loved them both!
I really wish that Michael Jackson and Prince had at least MUSICALLY COLLABORATED with each other ONCE during their careers! Aw man, just IMAGINE what they could've CREATED together! I think that WHATEVER they had CREATED together would've been one of the MOST AWESOME musical CREATIONS ever! Their mutual fans were CHEATED of that.
Two kings at the same time!! That was great. And, it was more like three kings if we included Lionel Richie! And four kings if we included Freddy Mercury and the group Queen and many others. So we had many music kings and queens in that time
Most of the fandom already knows they didn't hate each other, that they had far more in common, that this OFTEN happened with Black artists/Black folkx, that they made each other greater, that the televised beef facilitated record sales, and that Prince dated or just wanted his sisters--thus spent a lot of time at Michael's crib😂
All I know is that they both fought to get back ownership of their music and eventually won. Then they died. The music ownership; through various circumstances ---is now back with the music companies they fought against . and.... They both preached about this loudly. hmmmmmmmmmm..........

When you're blessed with the level of talent these two amazing artists had you can never be not hot. Two true legends ( RIP Michael Jackson, and Prince).
To be honest as a little boy MJ was beaten into being a entertainer and that brought scars he had to deal with all his life. Prince didn't have a perfect upbringing at all and he still managed to creatively deliver a unique musical experience. Both were amazing and its sad theyre not here anymore.😊

The one that had me mesmerized the most was Around The World In A Day album cover. To this day I still look at it and just be at awe like where did the idea stem from?!
There was never a reason to participate in fake battles. Coke vs pepsi. McDonald's vs burger king. MJ vs Prince. Nintendo vs Sega. Rap vs Rock. West Coast vs East Coast. Ridiculous. Everyone can literally enjoy both
These two men were the best,! I never felt I had to choose one over the other and couldn't to save my life. They are such a big part of my life, that created a large part of my personal soundtrack, that I feel I know and love them. I hope they are eternally blessed as much as they blessed us all with their gifts and then some. Neither had an easy time of it, but still they gave so much. I miss them.
@TheThrillerEffect They made it hard. Both of them amazing. Michael revolutionized Music Videos with Thriller. And Prince......baby.....he was just Prince. We were blessed to have them both.
I didn't even find out who Prince was until I was like 16. I knew about the Jackson Five ever since I was old enough to pay attention to and understand what I was watching. Nobody black discussed who was better. We enjoyed EVERYBODY FBA" black " who they even ALLOWED to become famous.
I always believe, both respected each other, mainly due to the history in race. MJs history in music with his brothers is what pushes him slightly above Prince. Hence MJ is " king."
Great video and primary sources. There did not have to be a choice between MJ and Prince: they were both über-talented in their own lanes and that 'rivalry' was pumped by the media. People bought the music and/or watched live performances of both, and their concerts were amazing but like their music, largely different.
This competitive respectful relationship contained a hidden benefit. Michael Jackson made Prince a better artist, Prince made Michael Jackson a better artist. The pressure pushed them to greater heights.
This video was well put together and edited soo well! There definitely was some friendly competition more or less. Seemed like mostly messing with each other, but when Micheal passed, I heard Prince locked himself in his room for 3 days and didn’t come out. In the end, they had a lot of respect and admiration for each other. We loved and miss them both.❤️💜 Hope Prince fam let’s us hear some of his unreleased music some day.
I think Little Richard may have been the first to join gimmick persona with demand for rightful compensation. Sad, but genius exhibition of the need to trump identity in order to be seen as a person. The public can relate to this cosplay. Everyone has had to deal with assimilation. But, "Black American" stereotyping is on another scale. The pocket watching and the penny snatching when its known you can't be half arsed and do any deal if your classified as "Black." You get to a point to where you pull back or find ways to establish the borders of your deliverable. You know when your about to be taken. MJ v. Prince, East Coast vs. West Coast, Jordan v Kobe... Nope he's dead, its Jordan v. Lebron instead. Conditioning for revolving door conditions for people classified as black. There's plenty of money for owners, and everyone aligned and beneath them. What is the cut for the star of the show? It appears being a star means constantly being milked. When there seems to be an expiration date which only puts milking into overdrive. More revenue dead than alive. I have to admit there was a week I seriously considered dressing up like Hattie McDaniel's mammy character and showing up to the office performing at my highest as usual. In the middle of a summer, not Halloween. There comes a time when you want to put on exhibit the predatory behavior leveraging your skills and totem pole compensation scales. And it still exists. Only now there are caste system loyalists acting as strawmen for corporations. They do use similar contracts, theirs including non-payment clauses. The difference is between sharecropping and out and out slavery.

🕊🕊
@@t.m.i.1245 cheers to this 🥂
That's what I thought too, they are far from being alike. And personally, I prefer Prince and grew up in the same era in 1984, I was just turning 7 in July. I also grew up in an interracial household
Another Great one. Thanks again for sharing and the hard work playa!
Same bruv1!
These two were the greatest of the greats..and will truely be missed by us all!!😮😢
A yes!! The Goku and Vegita of pop music with One always trying to get the edge over the other ;a beautiful Rivalry- the best of that kind.
You are not the first to make the Goku Vegita comparison. Such great imagery.
💯
Thank you. You can definitely tell who wasn't actually around at that time. We didn't know or care about any behind the scenes foolery, we loved them both!
Taylor Swift a joke she can never be what MJ and Prince were about.
truth teller ⬆⚠
This episode, like OUTIM, was fabulous! Please keep them coming! Love your perspective! 💜
Thank you! Will do!
MJ and Prince are forces of nature. I think placing one above the other is a matter of preference. However, I think they are equally GIFTED
The realest winners of all this is the generation that saw all this up close and personal. Everyone else after gets to treasure it.
gold!
Those times were a blast. They were crazy yet no social media. The best of two worlds.
No better time to be a kid than the 80’s & 90’s.
Damn straight!
So we had many music kings and queens in that time
MJ is the King.. Not Prince.. That's a FACT..
MJ is the only KING
@@appleheadsgirl254 There can be many kings at the same. There is no offence to anyone.
Most of the fandom already knows they didn't hate each other, that they had far more in common, that this OFTEN happened with Black artists/Black folkx, that they made each other greater, that the televised beef facilitated record sales, and that Prince dated or just wanted his sisters--thus spent a lot of time at Michael's crib😂
simply put and plain truth
THIS WAS VERY ENTERTAINING TO WATCH, I ENJOYED IT! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! Glad you did
@thriller effect.. incredible.. i could only find this first segment.. is there more?
All I know is that they both fought to get back ownership of their music and eventually won. Then they died.
The music ownership; through various circumstances ---is now back with the music companies they fought against . and.... They both preached about this loudly. hmmmmmmmmmm..........
MJ owned his music. They killed him for the ATV catolog. His estate still has his catalog.

Yes!!! And still something needs to be done!!
Prince is amazing!
Big up Rick James and David Bowie
bosses in their own lanes
Agreed!
Prince was SO GOOD that the brand sold itself on the shelve and it didn't need to be pushed.
Prince wrote all his songs and could play any instrument. Michael on the other hand needs help with everything but dancing.
@@Andrew-rz7qtYou do know he wrote many of his biggest hits and is in the Songwriters hall of fame. That's more than just dancing. Smh
@@jameswayjackson wasn't a better songwriter, stop
@@sdey893 Jackson has a higher percentage of hits from his number of released songs, your the one that needs to stop.
@@Andrew-rz7qt You really need to stop lying on Michael. If you don't like him that's fine but there's no need to make up stuff about him. Maybe learn more about him first.
They gave Prince a guitar that was Totally out of tune...as was most of the band by the way. That's what threw Prince off. Michael did Not set him up he could not have known the guitar would be out of tune and the band would be sub par. They didn't even know what to do behind Michael.
I like this take
Yeah Michael didn't know he wanted James to call Prince so Prince could also do his thing he had no idea it would go sideways
Bullocks. Michael knew exactly what he was doing.
@@jovanreid6782 I’m an MJ fan. And he is Confident with what he can do with a microphone. But find me another instance of Prince not being able to get on with a guitar.
This video makes me think that my problems are small! If u wanna be great, like these two, u have to be strong to endure the world! Got it!
So true. Be careful what we wish for
That video of Prince, Michael and James Brown...I pull it up often. I love that video. And prince was the best part to me. Coming in on thr body guards back, playing the guitar, the hand claps, knocking down the light. It was pure Prince. A vibe. Comfy in his own skin. Making you watch him one way or another. I just love thay video lol. Nothing to be embarrassed about in my opinion. It could have been scene from Purple Rain.
I love your editing lol. Had to subscribe.
I sure appreciate it 😉
Thanks!
WoW, extremely unexpected. You’re the first ever. Im thankful!
AWESOME likenesses of my FAVORITE musical royals! Well done! To me, the GREATEST rivalry of all time is MJJ vs PRN!👍🏾❤👑
DV OG always positive. Every time I see you comment I smile.
@@TheThrillerEffect AWW! Thank you! 😊
Both were amazing and its sad theyre not here anymore.😊
well said
19:46 LMAOOOO
After that whole talking segment before it, absolute evil :D Definitely a play from Michael.
I Love both mj and Prince and both are great artists both icons and both are pure genius 💯 and to this Day i listen to both and always will ❤❤❤❤❤ and may they RIP
They both rule
Two very talented Artists! I am a huge fan of both Michael Jackson and PRINCE! They are both my favorites, and I would not choose one over the other, and I think their sounds are different. They both are missed to this day. Amazing. Both could have been related ???❤️🎶🙏💞🎶🙏
They were both mega talented, and shrewd business men. Music… entertainment in general was changed by both of these men.
I remember a kid visiting my grandparents running upstairs to my uncle’s room so I could listen to both and admire their album covers. The one that had me mesmerized the most was Around The World In A Day album cover. To this day I still look at it and just be at awe like where did the idea stem from?!
I see why Imán loved Bowie . ❤❤❤❤
RIP to them both. Actual ARTIST that broke boundaries and DEFIED "Manufactured" BS
There was never a reason to participate in fake battles. Coke vs pepsi. McDonald's vs burger king. MJ vs Prince. Nintendo vs Sega. Rap vs Rock. West Coast vs East Coast. Ridiculous. Everyone can literally enjoy both
Cheers
These two men were the best,! I never felt I had to choose one over the other and couldn't to save my life. They are such a big part of my life, that created a large part of my personal soundtrack, that I feel I know and love them. I hope they are eternally blessed as much as they blessed us all with their gifts and then some. Neither had an easy time of it, but still they gave so much. I miss them.
Amazing sentiment and so heartfelt
IT'S NOT NEWS TO ME,. THEY RESPECTED EACH OTHER.
Very true
Im 41yrs old grew up listening to both, my mother loved MJ. Me personally i Love them both. Musical geniuses
David Bowie was smart enough to know MTV prejudices about black musicians and entertainers.
😂😂 Lionel said “I kept calling..” and the clip said “Hello” that made me laugh harder than I was expecting lol 44:09
I was laughing mho when it popped into my head
I was Both!!!! You could not choose one over the other!!!!!!!!
nice
@TheThrillerEffect They made it hard. Both of them amazing. Michael revolutionized Music Videos with Thriller. And Prince......baby.....he was just Prince. We were blessed to have them both.
great viddy.. viddy well .. musicologists know all this already.. go purple rock style
I didn't even find out who Prince was until I was like 16. I knew about the Jackson Five ever since I was old enough to pay attention to and understand what I was watching. Nobody black discussed who was better. We enjoyed EVERYBODY FBA" black " who they even ALLOWED to become famous.
Wow, this video has already 30,000 views in mere days. I am watching this video. Keep it coming.
I always believe, both respected each other, mainly due to the history in race. MJs history in music with his brothers is what pushes him slightly above Prince. Hence MJ is " king."
Lets be real. It's what MJ accomplished when he went solo that pushed him ahead of prince. Not what MJ accomplished with his brothers
It's more than slightly, Historically MJ towers above him in all cultural aspects.
MJ named his son after Prince. He admired him and wanted to collaborate with him for Bad.
@@VanielDeeform no he didnt
MJ named his son after his grandfather prince
@jamesway
I want to believe this but as I lived when both were top, Prince did his thing but he could never get above MJ.
Thank you for uploading !

Prince was great! But Michael was in a WHOLE different Class! No one could out perform Michael Jackson! He was definitely the G.O.A.T

@@TheThrillerEffectthat whole year is nothing but goats! Babyface, Madonna....
Great video and primary sources. There did not have to be a choice between MJ and Prince: they were both über-talented in their own lanes and that 'rivalry' was pumped by the media. People bought the music and/or watched live performances of both, and their concerts were amazing but like their music, largely different.
“In order to escape death I attempted to buy my soul” in conclusion OWN YOUR MASTERS, or others people’s masters lol
This competitive respectful relationship contained a hidden benefit. Michael Jackson made Prince a better artist, Prince made Michael Jackson a better artist. The pressure pushed them to greater heights.
What a great way to end my Prince Celebration 2024 week!!!💜💜
☺️
This video was well put together and edited soo well! There definitely was some friendly competition more or less. Seemed like mostly messing with each other, but when Micheal passed, I heard Prince locked himself in his room for 3 days and didn’t come out. In the end, they had a lot of respect and admiration for each other. We loved and miss them both.❤️💜 Hope Prince fam let’s us hear some of his unreleased music some day.
So thankful you enjoyed it! 😝
The pocket watching and the penny snatching when its known you can't be half arsed and do any deal if your classified as "Black." You get to a point to where you pull back or find ways to establish
the borders of your deliverable.
Both men were so talented and creative. I enjoyed watching and listening to liked them both. RIP to these two legends.
Tragic figures who both left far too soon.
I was lucky enough to see Prince in concert with my Mom. During the show, his band covered two MJ songs and one Janet record. 🤗
The two Greatest
Another brilliant video ur work is “Xtralovable “ I deeply enjoy all your works on TH-cam. I will say tho 2 sum of the ppl who in interviews seem 2 4get MJ is a brilliant composer not a musician in the traditional sense rather using his vocals when thinking of a unique beat and relay it bk 2 his respective musicians tbf. Not 2 pick a side rather 2 B fair 2 all their artistic talents known or unknown ppl will say Yh but he wasn’t rly this or that but who do u listen 2 day in day out dance & sing 2 4 me it’s MJ he’s the only music or anything I’ve ever stuck with and not gotten bored with in general.stay safe & God bless y’all!.
@@laurkanwalton5766 amen!
Since i’m a gen z from a different era, i feel if i was able to meet either MJ or prince back then, i’d meet MJ because it would be so memorable. I like prince music but idk it’s really something about MJ i just wished i could’ve experienced. I’m currently rereading his moonwalker. Also, i can relate to him with the whole not wanting to look like your abusive father thing. I guess prince can relate too since his father was a woman beater.
Even famous ppl who met Michael were starstruck and said there was just a magic to him that was just unique to him only. Couldn't be fully explained or duplicated. ✨️
+@TheThrillerEffect : Great Video...but is there a part 2 I only ask because it cut off at the end of the Documentary......!!!
Part 2 is coming. Thank you for watching
Michael mito. King. Genio. ❤
Am a fan of both cause both are different artists. i never compare them
After Drake and Kendrick compared themselves to Michael and Prince I had to watch this to understand the reference lol both musicians were legendary in their time 🔥🔥🔥
Those punks better not compare themselves to the legends.
When I was going to high school in Detroit Prince would come to town w stay for days. And everyone dressed like Prince or Michael or Morris Day
Both of these guys are legends for a reason. They were meticulous artists.
No lie when I was a Kid back in the 90s I used to think that Prince and Michael Jackson were Brothers judt like I thought the same thing with Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter.
I love both I'm not picking..rip ❤ michael and prince
No need.
How can you compare those two superstars both of them was brilliant both of them were totally different who said that they were not rivalries
