    Another important point: weight and ''wiggle'' do a lot in combat. You just cannot deflect a Calimacil with an Epic Armoury, the blow will go right through. But all brands have some weapons that ''wiggle'' hard when hit: harder to control, chain moves, but it's less impactful on the receiving end and the flexibility makes it more durable. While some are ''harder'' hitting, way more fun to use but if it has any length to it be careful not to hit too hard.

    You started in the right place! every one skims over the find a larp and ask about weapons. so many folks i see get a weapon from a big maker only to be it one to have known safety issues and its rejected.

    FYI - the Stronghold foam is NOT injected polyurethane. It's a proprietary formulation shot expanding foam.

    Which type of larp uses these style weapons i know amtgard and dagorhir use the dumb cloth wrapped wack sticks

      Hey Joshua, I go to Swordcraft in Australia and to my knowledge we can only use these styles of weapons. Apart from Swordcraft and I think bicolline, I don't know what other LARP only have this style of weapons. I have not gone over the rules for amtgard or dagorhir but I would be surprised if they did not allow the weapons I showed in this video.

      Apparently boffer style foam weapons find little acceptance outside the US.

    I would much rather make my own weapons, with the safety in mind. The prices of a lot of these weapons are crazy.

      DIY foam weapons is also my preference. But the check group or event rules goes double here. I've noted that rules for DIY foam weapons tend to fall in 3 clusters:
      - PVC pipe core and heavier padding, found mostly ib the US.
      - fiberglass cores and more modest padding.
      - no DIY weapons allowed, commercial only.
      I've seen one group that allows any of the above types, but allows commercially made weapons that fall far short of the PVC diy padding standard, and is vague on fiberglass core standards.

    Fakesteel. Can't recommend them enough. And just a cheap if not cheaper than a Cali or nemisis. Also they stop feather dusting.

      Hey, to be honest archery and the equipment is not my strong suit. But I do know some LARP's allow you to just use a cheap low poundage bow off eBay with the correct arrows. From my experience though arrows is where the cost is, so its really dependent on the rules and regulations of your organization.

    Hey mate brand new to larp and I notice you are at swordcraft as well, going to start in the upcoming weeks, where are your best spots for second hand gear and weapons? You also mention a local store you use? Great Videos Btw!

    • @nerdcottage524
      @nerdcottage524  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback! So for second-hand gear, I use a Facebook group "LARP Sell, Swap, Buy Australia", but also some LARPs will have market days and people will bring the gear they want to sell off, Swordcraft Melbourne had one a few weeks back. For new gear of science and swords is your best bet. They also normally have a stall at Swordcraft Melbourne's Friday night game. My advice is to go slow on getting gear there is loaner gear you can use until you really know what you want, I wasted a bit of cash haha. Also if you see me around feel free to say hi :)

    Everything here is good advice but from someone who has done both a lot of larp and taught karate for over a decade...
    1. Never make your own weapon
    2. Sword and Board (sword and shield) is meta (best) always in combat
    3. Want a fancy pole arm? A "cheaper wooden foam stick" from the same company eg calimacil will do the same thing in combat.
    4. Daggers are fancy they do Frick all in combat
    5. Dual wielding is for people who can ACTUALLY swordfight

    • @taintedmyth0s636
      @taintedmyth0s636 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk what you're talking about. The larp I go to allows stabbing and requires any weapon to have a stab-safe tip. Brands like Calimacil are stab safe. There are brands that aren't for sure, but there are a ton that are totally fine to stab with.

    • @Narx1983
      @Narx1983 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Err no. Many brands with telescopic tips and Kevlar tips are perfect for thrusting. Safe stabbing is a technique we teach with knuckles up and can only be stabbed downwards no lower than the waist and no higher than the base of the sternum. We also teach how to deflect or block such thrusts.
