I think the younger the teacher the better. Us high school students relate to someone who’s younger and who understands the world right then and there! I know that my 9th grade English teacher was 27 and I was able to relate to her and she was able to relate to me and I have her again this year my sophomore year!! The younger the teacher the better to me the older ones don’t understand us as well as some off the teachers that are in there 20’s.
Being closer to the age of someone doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to relate to them. I've had horrible younger teachers and also great ones. Same goes for older teachers. And my favourite teachers have been middle aged people. It really depends on the person. And older teachers have experience which makes it easier to love them. Some younger teachers are a mess and make their lack of experience very obvious. Anyway, english is not my first language so sorry about that
i just clicked on your "first week of school" vlog and it was the first time i ever saw your channel. i was thinking about how impressed i was when i see young, really put together gals vlogging their jobs (doctors,teachers etc) and then i saw when you showed the big tv a file that said "marjory stone.." and i was like holy shit was that the school with the tragedy in february so i brushed it away thinking it was a school with a similar name the i clicked on the video when you talked about the tradgedy it all clicked. you are such an amazing positive soul!!!!!!! you probably dealt with such a awful time after the shooting but you have cleary tried hard to make your students feel safe and able to learn like a normal student would!!!!!! you are amazing ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

i've always pictured myself as a teacher, but my thing was always "you've spent all these years complaining about school why would you willing choose to work there?" so for the past few years i've been working towards getting a degree in recreation to work with kids on a cruise ship, but i feel like the program isn't quite right for me. i've realized that switching into education is still totally relevant for working on a cruise ship in children's programming, and when i'm done with that i can move onto teaching, so it's like the best of both worlds!
I just switched my major from Nursing to Education too. I always knew I wanted to have a career where I could help others and it took me a while to realize that teaching was what I really wanted to do. So glad you found what you loved! Good luck to you!!

I’m 5’3”, and most of my 8th grade boys are taller than I am. I’m pushing 50, but my students think I’m at least 15 years younger than I really am. Looking young can be a great thing!
I’m 5’2” teach HS bio and besides my students being taller than me, my floor also slants (the school used to be a church) so by the time I reach the white board I’ve shrunk like 5 inches 😂

I think being a young teacher is an advantage! Not that you’re automatically a worse teacher when you’re older, but when you’re young, you can better relate to your students because you’re closer in age. Hello! I found you serendipitously and am so glad I did! I used to teach high school language arts and drama and just recently moved to middle school to teach drama full time. I feel so very blessed to do what I do every day and to work with such amazing kids. Hi Brittany! So I just found your Instagram/TH-cam a couple weeks ago. I’ve been teaching for 12 years (high school math), and the past couple of years have been really hard. Exhausting and frustrating and ... ugh. I don’t remember what video it was on, or if it was an insta post, but you were talking about how grateful you were to be a teacher, that you were lucky to get to do this every day; and I realized that I had forgotten why I started teaching. I lost the spark, you might say. So this school year, I have been working on just being grateful and being present every day. Already, I have noticed a difference in myself and my passion and my energy level, and it’s totally something that affects my students’ attitudes. So yeah, thank you so much for being who you are and encouraging current and future teachers. It makes SUCH a difference, not just in our lives as teachers, but in all our students’ lives as well. Yes to this. I am a five foot two teacher and I started teaching when I was 22. Currently I am 37- still five foot two and still have a baby face (a parent that I was a student at our orientation). I did lose out on a job because I looked young BUT when I told them in a boss voice that it was their loss; a week later my current district called me in on a interview and they hired me an hour into the interview. I have been in my district for 13 years!

I have just come across your channel and it has made me feel so much more comfortable with being a young teacher. I have just started my teaching degree and I decided to go down the secondary school route. So many people have said "oh, that's going to be difficult" and "you look so young". I am currently 21 and will be 23 when I graduate but I know I will still look super young. The most common surprise to people is my age. I get told I look between 16-19. This has been weighing on me as I am nervous I won't be taken seriously. You have automatically made be disregard all of that! I can't wait to start my teaching career! i’ve been so conflicted and unpassionate my first year in college. i’ve been toying with the idea of being a teacher for years as i love making a difference in people’s lives and making them feel loved as well as that their education and self is important. i enjoyed helping out my friends in middle and high school with math but NEVER thought to actually give these thoughts attention as all my life i have heard such stigma about teachers and quotes like “they teach because they can’t do” “they dont make money”. which is so untrue. i am so happy you have inspired me to let go of the negative comments surrounding the profession and focus on the positives. i am so proud that i found something i am now passionate of and can strive for better grades in my classes as i now have a purpose! thank you so much for posting these videos, i hope to become a great teacher as you are!

katiebug5000 I’m a sophomore in college and I get negative comments all the time as well. One lady even told me “Guys don’t think teachers are that attractive”🙄🙄🙄🙄 Just don’t let it get you down! ever since i was little, I've always wanted to become a teacher! Around freshman/sophomore year of hs (I'm a junior now), I also wanted to do something in the medical field (pediatrician?), but I was unsure. (I mean it's not impossible to be both) But I think I've always been passionate about wanting to teach students, specifically the younger kids!! I really want to teach kindergarten or first grade!! I work at my local high school as a special education secretary, I’m loving it! It’s also the high school I graduated from so that’s another cool point! @fivefootoneteacher organization is my strong point and I’m also the secretary for our sped director and she’s the big thinker where I’m the small detailed keeping her in check!
So I'm a junior in college and a secondary education and math major. Almost every time I tell someone I'm going to be a high school math teacher I get one of two responses: "Oh I'm so sorry" or "Good luck". Like what the heck?? I CHOSE to do this, and I'm so pumped! I think being a young teacher is an advantage! Not that you’re automatically a worse teacher when you’re older, but when you’re young, you can better relate to your students because you’re closer in age. I’ll be 23 when I start teaching (graduating in 2020 whoop whoop!) Your channel has gotten me so excited and inspired for my future as an educator ❤️

Hello! I found you serendipitously and am so glad I did! I used to teach high school language arts and drama and just recently moved to middle school to teach drama full time. I feel so very blessed to do what I do every day and to work with such amazing kids. I started teaching very young as well and even after teaching for 12 years I STILL get confused for a high school student (haha). Hi Brittany! So I just found your Instagram/TH-cam a couple weeks ago. I’ve been teaching for 12 years (high school math), and the past couple of years have been really hard. Exhausting and frustrating and ... ugh. I don’t remember what video it was on, or if it was an insta post, but you were talking about how grateful you were to be a teacher, that you were lucky to get to do this every day; and I realized that I had forgotten why I started teaching. I lost the spark, you might say. So this school year, I have been working on just being grateful and being present every day. Already, I have noticed a difference in myself and my passion and my energy level, and it’s totally something that affects my students’ attitudes.
So yeah, thank you so much for being who you are and encouraging current and future teachers. It makes SUCH a difference, not just in our lives as teachers, but in all our students’ lives as well.

Yes to this. I am a five foot two teacher and I started teaching when I was 22. Currently I am 37- still five foot two and still have a baby face (a parent that I was a student at our orientation). I did lose out on a job because I looked young BUT when I told them in a boss voice that it was their loss; a week later my current district called me in on a interview and they hired me an hour into the interview. I have been in my district for 13 years!

I have just come across your channel and it has made me feel so much more comfortable with being a young teacher. I have just started my teaching degree and I decided to go down the secondary school route. So many people have said "oh, that's going to be difficult" and "you look so young". I am currently 21 and will be 23 when I graduate but I know I will still look super young. The most common surprise to people is my age. I get told I look between 16-19. This has been weighing on me as I am nervous I won't be taken seriously. You have automatically made be disregard all of that! I can't wait to start my teaching career!

I was homeschooled for high school because I was bullied. I see you as such a safe person for your students and I have to thank you for that. I wish I had a teacher that I felt I could confide in. i’ve been so conflicted and unpassionate my first year in college. i’ve been toying with the idea of being a teacher for years as i love making a difference in people’s lives and making them feel loved as well as that their education and self is important. i enjoyed helping out my friends in middle and high school with math but NEVER thought to actually give these thoughts attention as all my life i have heard such stigma about teachers and quotes like “they teach because they can’t do” “they dont make money”. which is so untrue. i am so happy you have inspired me to let go of the negative comments surrounding the profession and focus on the positives. i am so proud that i found something i am now passionate of and can strive for better grades in my classes as i now have a purpose! thank you so much for posting these videos, i hope to become a great teacher as you are!

Just don’t let it get you down! If you know it’s what you want to do, it won’t be about the money for you, and the joy and satisfaction of teaching will be enough!

ever since i was little, I've always wanted to become a teacher! Around freshman/sophomore year of hs (I'm a junior now), I also wanted to do something in the medical field (pediatrician?), but I was unsure. (I mean it's not impossible to be both) But I think I've always been passionate about wanting to teach students, specifically the younger kids!! I really want to teach kindergarten or first grade!! So I'm a junior in college and a secondary education and math major. Almost every time I tell someone I'm going to be a high school math teacher I get one of two responses: "Oh I'm so sorry" or "Good luck". Like what the heck?? I CHOSE to do this, and I'm so pumped! Yes, I am only five foot two, and I will be a young teacher. But dang this is what I wanna do, and I'm so thankful I get to do this one day!
