Great Info Jeff ! 20 mph winds and a kayak ? The thought kinda scares me but then I don't have a kayak..lol One thing to consider when using braid is what kind of inserts are in your rod tip. Braid can cut grooves in stainless steel inserts and you will have to replace the rod tips or have frayed line ( per Lew's pro staff at a fishing event here in town ) . Ceramic , Silicon Carbide or alconite inserts are harder and less likely get grooves in them. But...... I like using braid !! Be safe my friend !

Interesting, I honestly don't know what kind of inserts are in my eyelets. I'll have to check. Thanks for the tip. I tried braid once a few months ago but it was 10 pound test. I have since learned that bait casters are designed for heavier line, so I'm trying again. Thanks for watching my friend!

I never understood what the purpose was for a leader line while bass fishing ? I tie my braid directly to my spool and the other end directly to my lure. I don't get why some others use a leader, but to each his own I guess- I highly recommend a palomar knot while using braid others will not hold secure and the braid will pull through the knot, never had it happen with the palomar. I also run my braid through the holes in the spool and tie it off, otherwise the braid will slip on the spool.. Good Luck

Thank you sir. My main purpose for using a leader is to be able to break off easier when I get hung. I fish in a lot of wood cover and breaking mono is better than breaking my wallet. 😂 Since braid is so much more expensive, I use the backer and a leader to save line. If I throw a frog or chatter bait, I'll tie directly to the lure. But for Texas rig, I'll use the leader. Thanks for watching!

Good job Jeff! Could you explain the benefit of a leader vs tying braid straight to lure

Thank you Bill! So there are a couple of advantages to the leader. First, is the belief that braid is much more visible to the fish (not sure if I totally buy that one) and second and most importantly to me, is the ability to break off if (when) you get hung up. Braid is so strong that if you are hung, cutting is about the only option. Since braid is so much more expensive, it is financially wise to break mono instead and thus use less braid. Thank you for watching good sir!
