I appreciate that. His nerves were already running full speed, he knows it’s going on TH-cam where his family and friends will see it so the last thing I wanted to do was be the one to push him over the edge
Loved seeing Tyler succeed pulling away with the clutch! It's so difficult learning it at first, but he'll be dumping and slipping it in no time at all.
He really did great. I thought it would take him longer. I told him next year I want to see him practice shifting 1-3 and 3-1 on some straights until he does it without thinking and then he’ll be set
He asked if he can enter a race next year and I am like hey slow down a little, let’s get more time at the practice track. I also know that riding near a 100% is what led to most of my crashes over the years. Need to give him more time practicing before I line him up and he over does anything
One suggestion I will make is move the levers in towards the center of the bars as much as you can. This will allow them to have more leverage on the clutch and brake. I never realized this till you watch the setups of like Graham Jarvis and other pros they have just the tip of the lever over the grips for maximum control.
Thats what i wanna know too.. and is it a big wheel or a small wheel….i am 5’1 i could ride a small wheel but not the big wheel i think.. and how much does it lower when he sits on it?
Tyler did a good job with that clutch. I got my klx140 rolling on my second try. But we must consider that 2 stroke clutches are different then trail bike clutches. Rock on man 😎🤘
Ya I consider the 65 clutch to be pretty hard to learn on because that bike doesn't much down low so you're a 100% spot on about a trail bike being different.
@@DadsDomain Ha ha nice my friend has a Kx 65 and a yz 80 both beasts on trails and hill climbs I have a KLX 110 and I'm flat footed so how tall till I can get a yz 85 because That's gonna be what my dad gets me in the summer So how tall would you rate for an 85 right now I'm 4 foot 8in. And a half
I mean its however people refer to it right? Getting on the pipe is another term. A lot of people I grew up around called it the 2 stroke hit...doesn't make it right or wrong
You're at that range I would want you to sit on an 85 and 125, depending on how long your legs are will determine it. Liam and Tyler are close to the same height but Liam has longer legs than Tyler so he fit the 85 faster than I originally thought he would were Tyler is miles away
That’s exactly what I told my kids if you ever get in the trouble and you get scared pull the clutch the clutch is your parachute. And then hit them breaks LOL. And when I got them used to the clutch what I did was once the bike started moving I would tell them to ride the clutch and give it gas but don’t let the clutch all the way out until you are rolling with just the throttle.
Tyler sometimes still struggles with popping the clutch at the end. It’s something he will eventually quit doing. Clutches are easy to swap so I try telling them to not worry about hurting anything
I think what that cop did was messed up because all you are doing is teaching your son how to ride a bigger bike that he doesn’t know much about and you whereby riding on the street doing it
You are correct. I still like to apply decompression to the rings breaking them in but I am making sure to blip the throttle and not let the Rpm too high for too long. I tried explaining it to the kids that the crank need oil and to get that it needs gas but they didn’t get it so I just told them to pull in the clutch

The way you showed him how to operate a clutch was awesome you kept positive and gave him reassurance nice job
I appreciate that. His nerves were already running full speed, he knows it’s going on TH-cam where his family and friends will see it so the last thing I wanted to do was be the one to push him over the edge
I woulda straight up said “YOUR BURNING UP THE DAMN CLUTCH DUMSHIT”
My dad told me "the law" is what a throttle and good sense of direction is for. Our county banned dirtbike riding. We never stopped.
