- Life comes at all of us differently. It’s a roll of the dice that none of us have control of. Some people use their situation as an excuse and others use it to fuel their fire. In our new video series True Grit, we focus on what makes our riders tick by visiting them in their hometowns and talking with the people in their lives that have seen them grow to the people they have become. In our first True Grit video we flew to Gallatin Tennessee to meet up with Jake Wooten, one of the most electric people we’ve ever met. He’s incredibly smart, super genuine and magic on a skateboard. But what makes Jake so special is his ability to persevere against all odds. Saved from a dysfunctional family situation at a young age, Jake was taken in by his Aunt and Uncle who had to completely change the way he saw and interacted with the world. We could go on forever about what Jake has been through and about why we love him so much, but we suggest you watch the video and see for yourself. Phillip and Shay Shay, we cant thank you enough for all you’ve done for him, our lives are better too for having him in it.

Santa cruz for life... best brand, true OGs and good people
True
100% agreed. I wear this brand with pride.
Don’t know where I’d be without having had Jake in my life! So grateful he’s taken himself so far and can’t wait to see what’s next for him. Strong as fuck. Love you jake!!
Truly grateful to call jake my friend. Much love brother!
you watch his latest vide part big sky? he killed that
Well damn..... Just met my new Favorite SK8R! Don't ever change Jake.... just grow.
David Aston - and Santa Cruz is my new favorite company for telling a real human story. This is the important shit in life.
Skating has saved many people, so awesome. Thank you
“Can’t play around anymore, it’s not a game” a tear and goosebumps. Man what a solid and talented human being. Favorite kid on the board. You’ve got a career after skating to just spread the love and let kids know it can be better. I took the other route, been a rough life for myself. If you’re young watching this video and reading this comment do what he’s done, stay away from shit and focus on being kind and doing what you love.
This is SO inspirational especially from someone that grew up the same way years ago! Tony found me at the perfect time and became the father and mentor I never had! Alva Skates and skateboarding gave me a life I could have never imagined!
From the first day I watched a video of him skate a few years back, I said to myself this kid is special.
ZEL R Woodward
I admire how this dude skates. His story here is pretty remarkable.
I’m glad I got to see him shred in person few years back. A really talented skater. Pure energy and the ability to shred anything. Glad to see his story has turned into a positive one.
Sad but beautiful story. I’m glad he has his aunt and uncle and glad he found skateboarding
Crazy seeing this dude around the skatepark and never really said anything to him, just stood back and watched him kill it. Hell of a story and it’s cool to see someone from Gallatin doing something big.
This young bloke is as smooth as can be,
totally has style for miles.
God Bless you Jake.
I think there's something in my eye
Shit. Now it's in both of my eyes
Jake I’ve known you sense I was 12 years old,and you still amaze me to this very day..Glad I got to see you about a month ago,I always knew you were going somewhere and still are.Much love from Nashville brother ❤️❤️❤️💯 catch ya around soon
Skateboarding saves lives its the only thing I've ever found that can completely turn my brain off for a while
Wow! That was an awesome film! Such a good message this is what we need! In life and skateboarding! Thank you
Jake wooten is a the definition of a full on survivor and is sick when he skates.... His aunt and uncle are living angels. I don't get emotional but this "REAL LIFE" choked me man. Good luck Jake and peace to your family x
Amazing what four wheels and a plank of wood can do. Stoke.
Philip is the man
Outstanding! Get that dude a model ASAP NHS. Gotta support that.
kind souls in this world come from hard times, jake is an amazing human being, skateboarding family saves a lot of people!
It’s 4 months later and I’m still following jake and his story to this day every day I watch him I always crack a smile. Keep going jake🤙

Touching story. Henry was also such a beautiful person. The light and dark within us. I hope Jake can continue to be a champion of love and life.

Awesome video Jake has come a long way
Skateboarding saves lives
So much natural talent, really just needed the push to express it. What a story. From a guy who grew up in a pretty similar environment, cheers to Jake and his passion for skateboarding and his aunt and uncle as well.
Woot Woot!!!!
I got to watch this kid growing up, his uncle always brought him to the park. I remember telling Phillip that Jake was going to make it big if he sticks with it. Kid has always been a fearless ripper
Awe his uncle and aunt are lovely people
These videos make me cry, so heartwarming.
Uncle on fleek!
This really explains his behavioral issues during his stint at camp woodward..glad to see he's grown up and landed on a solid skate team
I too had struggles growing up with parents. Rode my wooden toy for 33 years and two years ago was hit by a Ford Escape SUV from behind riding my bicycle at 50 miles per hour. When I woke up in the hospital four and a half hours later the first thought that came to mind because of all the pain I was in, I wanted to go skateboarding and that's all I wanted to do.
That's cray, skateboarding is some powerful stuff. Hope you are healing up well!
@@SantaCruzSkateboards👍👀 skateboarding is what kept me alive. Meaning the physical shape it kept me in. It seems to put you into all kind of shapes. Lol.Contorting your body. I'm riding again. I just wish i had the support to help children or adults to progress but, mostly have fun. I do this, just on a lower level. Held contests, built a bunch of ramps, halfpipes. Hand out my own stuff to help.
16 staples in my head and b.p.p.v. therapy rid b.p.p.v mostly. Lower back and everything inside my hips i felt. Bruised from heels to butt.
I rode Santa Cruz boards for like 31-32 years now. My 1st yr i rode Schmitt Stix ripsaw and then a Schmidt stix Steve Douglas. 3rd deck i was hooked on Santa Cruz. It was Claus Graubke.
Best riders on this team!
My biggest accomplishment was 13' halfpipe contest, 2' of vert, steel sheeted with screws sticking out.lol 1st yr-2nd place and 2nd yr-3rd place. There was a roller blader(only one) from Cali who beat me out both years. Lol 😁
That's epic! Jake's style is so rad keep shredding bro 🔥
Love these videos! Keep them coming 👍🏽
That's awesome! Jake, you deserve everything good that's happening to you.
Jake thank you for sharing your story. You are a great inspiration and represent everything I knew skateboarding could be. I pray for your success. You've got a good head and a good heart. They will take you far.

Jake I’m from Cookeville Tn and I can relate to your up bringing, super stoked to hear that you came out of the madness at home! Good ole Tennessee boy making it to the Big leagues!

Favorite person and skater, keep killing it jake!
Yes, this guy rips! Props to you man!
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Keep ripping Jake!!!
Skateboarding saves lives.✊🏽
Reminds me of a group of kids I grew up with...shit home lives running the streets...we're in our forties now...those that still skate are doing okay...the rest are drunks, drug burn outs, homeless, in prison or dead..with few exceptions....skateboarding can be a matter of life or death for some people...
Big fan!!
I met this man at swift Cantrell skate parkz THE COOLEST man ever. Cares for others and takes shit from one at the same time. It was fun having him in kennesaw for a while a few years back
