Yank here, I stumbled across a way to buy them retail from shop British Airways. Bought some dog food and magazines totaling 61USD from Walmart on line and received 90 Avios. Found it interesting and just wanted to test it out. May be cause Im from the U.S. and it works differently? Thanks for the info!❤
Note that while the boost is limited to the last month, they very occasionally have a limited offer to make any unboosted transactions from the last year available for boosting. I have seen it once in the past year.
AVIOS boost is my go to when I am not earning AVIOS out of everyday spend. But going forward I am going to look at reselling, in theory if you purchase stuff like Lego from the BA estore and sell it for a small loss, then the cost of your AVIOS comes right down. It does need a bit of research but I think it is a good way of getting super cheap avios. Some people who know their Lego actually make a profit. The same could apply to reselling stuff like electrical goods. And of course these purchases count towards the boost each month.
Thanks so much for these videos. How does this impact when travelling with children? Also when you want to travel to European destinations rather than longer haul
Don’t have kids myself so can’t comment from direct experience, but the biggest impact will be that you’ll need reward availability for a higher number of seats which could be more difficult to find, especially if travelling during school hols. You’d also need more points since there are more people travelling. However, if travelling to Europe rather than long haul, the points required will be less.
@@charlesontravelsthank you! Really appreciate your advice on this. I also realise that there are limitations on where you can fly from if using AVIOS. It seems that Birmingham doesn’t have many options with BA and so I’d need to fly from London mostly too. Another important part of this which might not make it that feasible for me
Hey folks, one small detail to add on boosting. The discounted rates on boosting are limited to 300,000 per year. So long as you’re below 300,000 earned by boosting, the rate is 0.0092 per avios. Just stay below 300,000 and you’re golden!
Tbf I buy Avios, using any cashback I earnt from going abroad from my 1% cashback Chase Debit card. As less than 1p per point cost to buy on balance booster
I occasionally buy american airlines points because they dont do part payment for redemptions its either all miles or money so sometimes the incremental cost has a very big payback, eg either i can or cannot do that (say) first class flight to hawaii, but i always wait for sale periods. Do BA have similar occasional sales on avios purchases?
I’ve never personally seen a good BA offer to directly book points, but at the end of last year there was a good deal to be able to use boost to do a 3x boost on all the points earned over the previous 12 months! I was tempted to buy a few hundred thousand points, but was already sitting on plenty of points and not enough leave from work to use them all
@@charlesontravels its a very good return once you have spare change set up. for every €1/£1 spared its 50 points and for every euro spent on your revolut it is 1 point. it is very good and I recommend it ive now got over 23,000 points.
If I’m understanding the spare change point correctly, doesn’t that mean you’re spending 2p per avios? That’s a very expensive way to accrue points and you’d be better off paying BA directly through boost or an Avios subscription. Or does the spare change go to a savings account and you also earn the points? Seems like only the Revolut account with a fee earns at that rate too, whereas the free BA Amex and the free Barclaycard offer the same Avios earning rate. Still, a useful way to earn Avios for those in Europe not based in the UK, but I think anyone based in the UK would be better off with Barclaycard or Amex

Yes good point, I remember seeing that in the new year!

That’s a really interesting way of doing it that I hadn’t considered at all! Especially good if you do manage to make a profit on some too!
What a brilliant idea!

Thanks for so fully explaining how to boost Avios

Could you boost the points from a avios monthly subscription?
I’m not 100% on this and haven’t tested it, but I believe so
@charlesontravels thank you. I'll try it. Question please, do you point system like avios that works well for hotels?
Subscribed
Thank you!
I use revolut to get my Avios over 2 months ive gained 19,000 Avios
Can you actually get a good return on Revolut? I was under the impress you don’t get anywhere near as many points as you would with an AMEX?
