Thanks for sharing. Couple of things that help me but weren't mentioned in the video: - Keep the board pointing to the ocean during the drop - Starting leaning into the drop when you're on your *back* foot, touch the water with the board at the same time you're stepping with your *front* foot - Always stretch your hamstrings (the most important tip)
I skim the uk and I have always struggled to get out to the bigger waves. I cant believe how effective monkey crawl and side slip is! I just rode my local spot and for the first time ever I am reaching head high waves! I cant thank Austin enough!!amazing! Cheers
Skimmed for the first time today, omg I decided to skim in an area of the beach with a crap ton of rocks and pebbles, and had a gnarly cramp at the end of the sesh, hitting it again first thing tomorrow 👍
I watch you on Instagram , I have waited soo long for this, I saw the old video was difficult for a noob like me but seeing this , I’ll be back to falling again !
I think I'm I'm gonna be in a world of hurt and frustration this summer...been watching your videos in preparation to start skimboarding, as a beginner. I'm confident; just not experienced!! Hahaha! Thanks for the videos!
You misunderstood Austin. If you are skimming out to the waves you are not "flat land skimming." Flat land skimming means skimming along the shore and not trying to go out to deep water. However Austin does not make a valid point about this because he says if you are putting the board down in knee deep water you can monkey crawl easier. But that's silly because #1: No one will try to run in knee deep water. Anyone will drop by the time you get over your ankles deep. #2: In almost all of Austin's demo monkey crawl drops he is dropping in water less than an inch deep, so there is no "height advantage" as he describes. He even mentions "one step deeper into the water," which is about right, but one step does not take you from sand to knee deep water. He also mentions that the point of monkey crawl is to maintain momentum, but that can work just as easily on the sand as it does on the water. Conclusion: monkey crawl can be used for flat land skimming just as well as going out to the waves. I think the advantage might be better expressed as "monkey crawl will allow you to take a step or two into the water whereas a one step drop must start out on the sand. Starting your skim already on the water allows you to conserve a little momentum that would otherwise be lost on the higher friction sand."
Brilliant, iam gonna try the monkey the next time out. I always jump with two feets at the same time on the board, stepping might be a bit faster but with a higher chance to twist an enkel, I think.
Hi Austin! What's the maximal Wind you can tolerate with the monkey crawl? I live in Corsica Island (France) and we have nice surfing waves, but often with strong winds. I've understood, this tool is useful to avoid the board drop when it's windy.
Brand new to skim boarding but I really feel like I would have a lot less trouble gaining speed by perfecting the monkey crawl... how highly do you recommend that? Got my one step down, but I’m getting no speed and no distance, the faster I run the worse my drop is and the more I wipe out, currently icing two knees before I go out and try again tomorrow. The monkey crawl just looks a lot easier at least to me to pull off considering my only issues is dropping while running fast enough to catch a wave. When I go half speed and focus on mechanics, I don’t struggle but I get maybe 15-20 ft in distance. Any tips help!
I can’t get my side slip right, I’m 15 I’ve been skimming for years I just can’t get that right, I always either dig in my heals or I catch my front lip. Monkey crawl I’m still working on. Also yea I ride goofy.

the monkey crawl is great for flat beach skimming. i’m from vilano beach, fl and it makes it so much easier to get out to waves that are far out
I’m in west palm I agree it makes it so much better

@@TheLarryBrown I will begin practice monkey crawl only because the wind. Too dangerous to run at full speed and do one steep with wind.
Amazing video and help. What beach is this?

You are the best bro💣💣💣🌊🤙

I just got a new skimboard!
Brilliant, iam gonna try the monkey the next time out. I always jump with two feets at the same time on the board, stepping might be a bit faster but with a higher chance to twist an enkel, I think.

Thank you for sharing!
Happy to help!

Estoy aprendiendo mucho 👌🔝🔝congrat!!😉
I think when you do it you call it a Keen Krawl🏄🏻♂️
Hey Keen I know boards are based on weight. I gained like 20 lbs this pass year. What size board you suggest? I have a large exile. I'm 220 hehe.
Hey sick vids
I rate u teach us howtta send ourselves 10ft into the air of a wave 😂

I had to like the video because of what he did at 2:43

Im in the same situation... Try using eelsnot or speed wax
Best "best wave ever!".
What beach are you at
ripper video legend!
Gotta love it!
2:40 LOL :D
Tanks !!!
Greattt video!!!
Здорово! Мне нравится!! Правда не все понимаю!! Да и такого океана у нас нет!! А так можно было бы попробовать)))))))
Thank you
What are the wax for easily sliding to the sand?
Zum speed wax on the bottom of the board. Surprising that almost no skim videos cover or even mention the subject of wax.
Is slim baurding on a boogie ok?
top video thaks
What board are you using in this video
Skimboard acid drop tutorial would be dope!? (Please)
More like skimboard acid drop dead.
which beach do you go to
Rad....🤙🏻
How long have you been skimboardong for
Twenty or thirty minutes.
I'm getting old but I bet I could catch a few waves, skateboarding wile younger shud help, ggz
Have anyone tried this and a huge wave is coming right in shore and before you even step on the board your like “helllll nooooo”
I keep struggling with my monkey crawl. Once I’m on the board I’m always too much onto the left side and end up causing drag and an instant stop
I was monkey crawling in Northwest Florida 30 years ago
Would this work if for goofy people??
Alan King YES IT IS THE SAME
can you do that with a wooden skimboard?
If the conditions are right, the waves nearby, you could, but epoxy boards have more float and gets you fearther out, the best boards are from carbon.
Yes, but once you get good enough to skim out to the waves go ahead and invest in a foam core board.
Sup broskie🤙
Got any grindage?
I can’t get my side slip right, I’m 15 I’ve been skimming for years I just can’t get that right, I always either dig in my heals or I catch my front lip. Monkey crawl I’m still working on. Also yea I ride goofy.
You probably need better wax
🍍🍻🍍🍻🍍 awesome video 👍
2:37 my mans controller disconnected
I always thought they just speed checking
2:42👍
3:22: Yeah, but then you hsve to bring your knees WAAAAY up, higher.
Correct. Austin does not make a valid point there. In almost all drops shown he's in an inch or two of water.
Imagin getting no unlikes on a video
I broke my collar bone while practicing the monkey crawl :( now I cant play skimboard for a month
How?
9:50. You can go ahead and turn off the charm. I am immune.
