What an amazing piece of automotive history; this man is a legend, born in Affalterbach, AMG engineer, first AMG representative in North America. This made very happy.

John - our MBCA club chapter visited RennTech and it was one of the best club experiences ever. Hartmut was gracious & welcoming. I felt bad for him b/c the majority of the attendees were rich older ppl who can easily buy the latest and greatest MB product while being more interested in club lunches rather than what they were seeing there. I spoke to Hartmut about my rides (2000 E55 & 1977 450SL) & he showed me some 'really' cool stuff related to all the retro cars at the shop (customer cars, wheels, etc). I have a deeper appreciation for the mechanical upgraded RennTech & AMG cars b/c everything now is all software and intakes. It's a shame really. Hartmut had a R107 he was rebuilding with a newer engine & a few classics including a Renntech W210 430. If I had the $, I'd send both cars over for him to overhaul (try to get them as periodic as possible while adding modern improvements where it would make sense). I'm thankful he was so cool and welcoming though in regards to the W210, many of my MB mechanic friends say it's perfectly fine the way it is.

You get it , I actually built a car for Hartmut because he was doing his business, So I called him and about a month later after a couple years and I get this call and he says in his german accent is this Joohn and i'm like yeah who's this, He said Hartmut Feyel, and i went into hey buddy what is shakin' he said oh i just wanted to catch up, i had a lot of emails and wanted to see how you were doing, holy shit hartmut calls me, I'm sitting in my patio in Willows , California, bbqing and get a random call from my buddy , it was so heartwarming because he is super genuine, I am probably one of the only guys who built a race car for one of the truly famouse car builders of all time, don't get me wrong he told me what he wanted, and his crew chief was British, wow talk about arguments , it was epoch, the British buy was super arrogant and a F1 crew guy back in the day, and Hartmut is easy going, but they had epoch arguments it was classic, thank god there was no internet, the car was a World Challenge touring car, when I got there it was a tub, not even brake lines, 6 weeks to sebring, we barely made it, great times with hartmuts crew, the brothers, who I have heard are now crew chieifs in gt4, the motor biulder was awesome, all of the guys in the shop were very cordial, we did 20 hour days for 6 weeks, it really took a toll
bottom line is hartmut is Awesome

I first met Hartmut in 1985, driving a AMG 500SE, full spec, with a buffalo interior. We have been friends since then .. Hartmut and Renntech are the quintessential boutique tuner for Mercedes Benz / AMG automobiles. His attention to detail, product quality speak for themselves. Thx for the story gents !

Hartmut is a great guy, he treated me with such care and respect while building the early 2000s world challenge car, what a great experience I guess the only regret is when I realized no one was in the shop any more and about 20 minutes later they came in and asked me why I didn't watch the Space Shuttle launch, I have to tell you I cried jjj

So cool to see this! Brings many miles of memories for sure. I was fortunate enough to co-drive with Dave Girgen to campaign his RENNTech 190E 3.6 back in the mid 90s One Lap of America. Hartmut lead the competition with his 500E test mule! Then later time-trialing against both of them in my 190E 2.5-16 Turbo EVO II clone at MBCAs StarFest in Portland, and was happy to finish a close second.

I have spent quite a bit of time in a custom AMG I think it was a 500SEL or some such, it didn't have badges and it was 30 yrs ago. It used to be owned by Juha Kankkunen who had it made to his spec n Germany. It was BIG but also very fast. Blue metallic. Never seen another like it, was a damn cool car.

Back in the 80s I went to an car auction in Modesto CA and there was this all white 4 dr MB 60k miles with just 'AMG' at the back. I bid on it when one asked 'What is a grey market car?' The auctioneer said don't bid on it if you don't know what a grey market car is. I won the bid for 12k to find out it used to belong to a cocaine dealer. The MB shop in San Jose CA maintained the car to tell me it was tuned as a AMG! I put it in indoor storage for 18 years in SF then took it out from storage. I sold it for only 5k to a Texas buyer in 2011 as I just tired of it! The buyer told me he has a Hammer that he likes to have that car! I am glad the car is in good hand!

Have you ever heard of the car that police couldn’t catch no matter what supercar they bought or seized.
I think there was only 6 that had left the dealership and drug dealers or traffickers had payed cash for the six that the police couldn’t stop being sold.
There was 4 sedans and 2 station wagons and they had a V6 twin turbo engine and they had lot of horsepower and also torque these cars were faster then all the Supercars available at the same time.
The police even tried to catch them in the heavily modified car they had seized and were due to be crushed and when they couldn’t catch them they got crushed then.
There’s a TH-cam video that takes you to a mechanic that has one on a hoist in the back of the workshop and it’s looked after that well he lowers it down starts it straight away and then takes the guy that was looking to find one and he got to go for a drive in it.
The car was a vaxhual vector and it they were originally Australian car but they were sent to England and then re badged and called a vachual they also did this with the Holden cars that were exported over there.

@@frankodwyer9532 no, I'm very calm. I'm doing him a favour by politely correcting him. He sells very expensive cars to a lot of well educated business people. I'd hate for them to either judge him negatively for a percieved lack of intelligence or book reading compared to them, thus empowering them. Or for him to be corrected face to face by a dick head and cause an awkward situation. There is only one right way to say it. It's better to know what that is and say that. I've heard him say it a few times and it belittles what he was talking about every time. Now it won't. Happy days.
